He is the recipient of 9 ASCAP Popular Song Awards for his hits, which include the number one records "In Between Dances" (recorded by Pam Tillis), "It Must Be Love" (Ty Herndon), "Turn It Loose" and "I Know Where I'm Going" (The Judds).
Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Craig first came to Nashville in 1982 to record his song "You Are What Love Means To Me", which was featured as the closing theme in the Academy Award winning motion picture "Tender Mercies".
As a recording artist with the band SKB (Schuyler, Knobloch and Bickhardt) Craig helped put the trio on the Billboard Country Charts twice in 1988 with his songs "Givers and Takers" and "This Old House" (co-written with Thom Schuyler). Craig and Thom teamed up again in 1993 to write and produce the Warner-Alliance CD, "Precious Child: The Story of Christmas", a musical that featured performances by Vince Gill, Janis Ian, Guy Clark and others. Craig's hits also include; "I Can't Turn The Tide", "That's How You Know When Love's Right" (which was nominated for a CMA Award), and "You're The Power".
Ray Charles, B. B. King, Art Garfunkel, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Anne Murray, Allison Krauss, and Poco have all recorded his songs. His work is also featured in the film "At Close Range" and his song "Where I Used To Have A Heart" was used as the closing theme for the movie "Switchback". Craig has recently returned to recording his own music. In November 2001 he released his debut solo CD, EASY FIRES. Craig is a Lyric instructor, Music Business instructor and Song Feedback and Mentoring instructor at SongU.com. You can visit Craig at his website, www.CraigBickhardt.com.
