Edit lets you update the song title, lyrics, backstory, MP3, and other song details. Delete removes the song from your Song Locker. If you’re having trouble uploading your MP3, first make sure the file is actually an .mp3 file and that the file name is simple. Avoid special characters such as %, ?, !, @, #, &, apostrophes, quotation marks, or extra punctuation. Try using only letters, numbers, hyphens, or underscores. Also check that the MP3 is not too large. If the file was originally a Windows Media Audio file or another format that was simply renamed with an .mp3 extension, it may not upload or play correctly. If you still have trouble, contact SongU@SongU.com or submit a Help/Support request and include your song title, browser/device, and any error message you see. + 2. My MP3 is too large. How do I make it smaller? If your MP3 file is too large to upload, you may need to reduce the file size by exporting or converting it at a lower bitrate. You can use a free online converter to compress your MP3. For help preparing your audio, see our DIY tutorial course GEN 110: Preparing Your Audio for Uploading. Helpful resource: 🔗 Online Audio Converter to Compress MP3s + 3. How do I upload a song to my Song Locker? To upload a song to your Song Locker, go to the Song Locker menu and choose the option to add or edit a song. From there, you can enter your song information, add lyrics if you have them, and upload your MP3 file. For best results, make sure your MP3 file has a simple filename containing only letters, numbers, hyphens, or underscores. + 4. Can I upload an M4A file, or does it have to be an MP3? The Song Locker accepts common audio files such as MP3 and M4A. For best results, we recommend using an MP3 file with a simple file name using only letters, numbers, hyphens, or underscores. The maximum audio file size is currently 9MB. + 5. Do I need to click Save after uploading or replacing an MP3? Yes. After uploading or replacing an MP3/M4A file, be sure to click Save Changes before leaving the page. If you upload a new audio file but leave the page without saving, your changes may not be applied to the Song Locker entry. + 6. Why are old song details showing up when I try to add a song? If you see old song details already filled in when you are trying to add or edit a song, your browser may be restoring information from a previous Song Locker session. This can happen if your connection dropped, your session timed out, or your browser saved the form information before you finished. If the information does not belong to the song you are working on, simply clear the old values from the form and enter the correct new song information before saving. If the old information keeps coming back, try clearing your browser cache or closing and reopening your browser. + Editing Songs + 1. What happens when I edit a song in my Song locker? Editing a song in your Song Locker updates instantly across all of SongU.com wherever it is used, including Coaching, Pitching, your Member Website, and your Backpack. This is an easy way to ensure your latest rewrites are seen across the site. + 2. I edited my song, but it still plays the old version. What should I do? If you edited your song but still hear the old version, your browser may be playing a cached copy of the old MP3 file. First, try refreshing the page. If that does not work, clear your browser cache, close and reopen your browser, then try playing the song again. If you replaced the MP3, also make sure the new file uploaded successfully and that you saved your changes before leaving the page. If it still plays the old version, try renaming the new MP3 file with a simple file name using only letters, numbers, hyphens, or underscores, then upload it again. If the problem continues, contact SongU@SongU.com or submit a Help/Support request and include the song title and what you changed. + Deleting Songs + 1. What happens if I delete a song from my Song Locker? Deleting a song from your Song Locker removes that song from your locker. Important: deleting a song may also delete any active pitches and pending coaching evaluations associated with that file. Completed evaluations are not affected. If you only need to change the song information or replace the MP3, use Edit instead of deleting the song. + 2. Can I delete only the MP3 and keep the song/lyrics? Yes. If you want to remove only the MP3 but keep the song information and lyrics, edit the song in your Song Locker. On the edit page, look for the link that says need to delete MP3 or make song lyric only? This removes the MP3 file but does not delete the entire song from your Song Locker. + 3. Why can’t I delete a song from my Song Locker? In some cases, a song cannot be deleted because it is connected to active or pending SongU activity. For example, if the song has been submitted for a pitch opportunity, coaching, evaluation, or another SongU feature that still needs the song record, the system may prevent deletion. This protects your SongU activity history and helps make sure songs connected to current services are not accidentally removed. If you are unsure why a song cannot be deleted, please contact SongU@SongU.com and we can help check it for you. + Sharing Songs + 1. How do I share a song with a co-writer? To share a song with a co-writer, go to your Song Locker and find the song you want to share. Next to the song, click the Share link. This opens a shareable song page that you can copy and send to your co-writer. Only share your song with people you trust. If you are co-writing with someone new, we recommend making sure you both understand how the song ownership and collaboration will be handled before sharing or working on the song together. + 2. What is the difference between Share and adding a song to my Member Website? The Share link creates a shareable page for that specific song. This is useful when you want to send one song directly to a co-writer or someone you trust. Adding a song to your Member Website displays it as part of your SongU Member Website, where others can view the songs you have chosen to feature. Use Share when you want to send one specific song. Use Add song to my website when you want the song to appear on your Member Website. + 3. What does the Share link do? The Share link creates a private share page for that song. You can send that link to a co-writer, collaborator, publisher, producer, or other trusted person. Sharing a song does not add it to your public Member Website. It simply gives you a direct song link that someone can use to listen to the song and view the song information you have included. Only share songs with people you trust, especially if the song is unreleased or still being revised. + 4. Who can access a shared song link? Anyone who has the shared song link can access that song page, so you should only send the link to people you trust. A shared link is useful for sending a song to a co-writer, collaborator, publisher, producer, or other trusted contact. It is not the same as adding the song to your public Member Website. If you no longer want someone to access a shared song, you can remove or change the song from your Song Locker. + 5. Can I share a song without adding it to my Member Website? Yes. Sharing a song and adding a song to your Member Website are two different things. Use Share when you want to send a direct song link to a specific person, such as a co-writer, collaborator, publisher, or producer. Use Add to Member Website when you want the song to appear on your SongU Member Website. + 6. How do I share a song without putting it on my Member Website? Yes. You can share a song without adding it to your Member Website. In your Song Locker, use the Share link for that song. This gives you a direct song link that you can send to a co-writer, collaborator, publisher, producer, or other trusted person. Using Share does not place the song on your public Member Website. It simply creates a direct link for sharing that specific song. Use Add song to my website only when you want the song to appear on your Member Website. + Member Website + 1. How do I add a song to my Member Website? To add a song to your Member Website, go to your Song Locker and find the song you want to display. Click Add song to my website next to that song. To view or edit your Member Website, go to the Account menu and choose About Me. + 2. How do I remove a song from my Member Website? To remove a song from your Member Website, go to your Song Locker and find the song you want to remove. Click Remove song from my website next to that song. This removes the song from your Member Website, but it does not delete the song from your Song Locker. + SongU Awards + 1. Where do I find songs that won SongU awards? If one of your songs has received a SongU award or recognition, you may see an award image or award link displayed with that song in your Song Locker. Click the award image or link to view more information about the award. If you believe an award should be showing but you do not see it, please contact SongU@SongU.com and we can help check it for you. + Technical Issues + 1. Help! My MP3 doesn't play. If your MP3 uploads but does not play, the file may be corrupted, or there may be a special character in the file name that prevents it from playing correctly. Try renaming your MP3 using only letters, numbers, hyphens, or underscores. Also, make sure the file is truly in MP3 format. If it was originally a Windows Media Audio file or another format that was simply renamed to .mp3, it may not play correctly as an MP3. If the problem continues, contact SongU@SongU.com or submit a Help/Support request, and we’ll troubleshoot with you. + Other Questions + 1. Where can I find SongU partner demo studios? From your Song Locker page, look for the Need a demo? box near the top of the page. Click partner studios to view SongU’s demo studio partners. You can also find demo options in the Song Locker area when preparing or improving recordings of your songs. + Other problems or questions?
