    Backstory:
Doug took the pictures in the slide show from his trip to Denver and Sedona with a woman he loved deeply who broke his heart and moved away to California.

We changed Sedona to Phoenix in the song due to the fact that Sedona has three syllables and didn't work as well musically in the song.

You can see the beautiful slide show of his trip on YouTube at this web address. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvoBhGeiNDo

    Lyrics:

I DON’T REMEMBER DENVER She said it was raining The first night we met At a bus stop in Denver Cold and wet She said we went camping In the Rockies that fall It must have been beautiful Not much I recall CHORUS But I remember her face Every strand of her hair, The warmth of her laughter, That filled the air The sound of her heartbeat As she lay in my arms But I don’t remember Don’t remember Denver at all [VERSE] Then we met out in Phoenix, In the middle of May I came in from Austin, She from L.A. We hiked through the desert With its red canyon walls Oh, it must have been stunning Not much I recall [CHORUS] But I remember her face, Every strand of her hair, The warmth of her laughter, that filled the air The sound of her heartbeat As she lay in my arms But I don’t remember Don’t remember Phoenix at all [BRIDGE] Well it’s really quite simple, when a man falls in love, That girl is the only thing, he’s thinking of VERSE But she left me in Memphis In the dead of the night A note by the bedside In the cold morning light I searched every corner Tore Beale Street apart But they were as empty As my broken heart CHORUS But I can still see her face Every strand of her hair Still hear her laughter that filled the air Can’t shake the memories As hard as I try No, I can’t forget Can’t forget Memphis at all Can’t Forget Memphis at all Can’t Forget Memphis at all
