Backstory:
I know vets who have gone on these honor flights so I thought I'd write a song about them.
Lyrics:
HONOR FLIGHT
Got a call from an old buddy
Whom I served with in the war
Asked how I was doing
And I replied a little bored
He said you should take a trip
I think it'll do you some good
I asked where I'd be going
He said to the nation's capital
Learned it was a free trip
To finally honor us
Several years later
For our military service
We'd take in the Vietnam Wall
And other war monuments
Said I'd be traveling along with
A bunch of fellow older vets
NOW I"M ON THE HONOR FLIGHT
HEADED TO DC
MEETING SOME NEW BROTHERS
BORN FROM DIFFERENT MOTHERS
AND TOGETHER WE HOPE WE CAN BURY
ALL OF THE GHOSTS FROM OUR PAST
Landed at Reagan airport
And bussed to the long black wall
Paid respects to our old friends
Whom we lost in that tragic war
Then we visited Arlington
And marveled at the honor guards
Whispered prayers to the Korean vets
And lost souls from both World Wars
Now we're all headed home
A plane full of new friends
With lots of great memories
That will surely never end
Coming back to our hometown
To neighbors and family
A band of old soldiers
Who found peace and serenity
I TOOK THE HONOR FLIGHT
AND TRAVELED TO DC
MET SOME GREAT NEW BROTHERS
THAT WERE BORN FROM DIFFERENT MOTHERS
AND TOGETHER WE ALL BURIED
ALL OF THE GHOSTS FROM OUR PAST
AND TOGETHER WE ALL BURIED
ALL OF THE GHOSTS FROM OUR PAST
