Backstory:
Nancy had this hook. She based it on trusting her instinct to move to Tennessee to start a new life and to pursue her passion for songwriting.
The story we made up is fictional, but she did grow up on a farm, and the tractor situation was based on her real experiences with her father when he taught her to drive the tractor when she was a little girl.
Lyrics:
When it Feels Right
Verse 1:
When I was a little girl couldn’t drive a tractor straight
Lookin down at the ground I’d often hit the gate
My daddy told me focus where you want to go
Look straight ahead and you’ll make it down the road
Chorus:
Don't second guess it, overthink it
Go with what your heart believes
When it feels right, you'll know it
Trust your instinct, never doubt it
Belief in yourself will set you free
Verse 2:
Headed off to college, I took my mom and dad’s path
But I soon felt lost, I wanted my own dreams back
So I called my daddy up, told him I changed my mind
When I made my own choices, I felt a peace inside
Repeat Chorus
Verse 3:
Six years later, I’m travelin’ (all over) the world
I’ve come a long way from that little tractor girl
Now I’m chasing down stories, from wild-fires to war zones B
I owe it all to my daddy’s faith in me when I was home B
Repeat Chorus 2x
