Backstory:
Heartache and a few guitar chords. I wrote this song with my buddy John Bizzack from Lexington, Kentucky several years ago during one of my trips to Nashville. We first demoed it at Brush Hill Studios in Nashville with Arvel Bird producing and Tim Hopkins singing it. A year or two later it caught the attention of Ken Biddy with Copperfield Music Group. Ken and I kept in contact through the years always talking about this song, but sadly we lost Ken last year after his brave battle with cancer. During that same time period the song also caught the attention of Chris Dodson with Makin' Music, and Chris re-demoed the song using a different vocalist. Unfortunately this was all taking place about the time that country music was steering away from the traditional sound, so as much as the song was loved it never found a home. In 2021 after rewriting some of the lyrics I had the song demoed for the third time at Brent Rader Productions in Mount Juliet, Tennessee. Since then it has nestled quietly in my catalog not getting pitched very often. This week it dawned on me that I never tracked the song using a female vocalist, and there are a lot of great female artists in country music right now, so I revamped a few lyrics, and changed the production to make it a little different from the male track. I can hear the heartache in every syllable.....I love it. I think it's time to start pitching "Memory Like Mine" again.
Lyrics:
January sixth, I’ll never forget
The first time you blessed me with your warm lips
Can't put something like that aside
With a memory like mine
With a memory like mine
I have no friend in time
Just the love you left behind
With a memory like mine
Moved you in March, to my postmark
You filled every corner of my trusting heart
I can't put something like that aside
With a memory like mine
With a memory like mine
I have no friend in time
Just the love you left behind
With a memory like mine
With a memory like mine
From the calendar cube, in our bedroom
You wrote on the backside of the twelfth of June
Your broken heart will heal with time
But not with a memory like mine
With a memory like mine
I have no friend in time
Just the love you left behind
With a memory like mine
With a memory like mine
I have no friend in time
There’s no peace of mind
With a memory like mine
With a memory like mine
