Backstory:
The song's hook is actually that of my co-writer Nancy Probst. She is currently a member of NSAI and either has or is considering Song U. I helped tweak the lyrics and wrote the chord structure and melody.
Lyrics:
Late Bloomer
Key C
[Verse 1]
Started a family in my thirties
Went to college in my forties
Tried online dating in my fifties
Wrote my first song in my sixties
Sometimes life gets in the way
Things don't always fall into place
Just the way you want them to
But I never let it make me blue
[Chorus]
Doesn't matter how long it takes
What counts is I’m still tryin’
I know I shoulda done it sooner
But I’m livin life on my own terms
Yeah I've always known I was a late bloomer
[Instrumental turnaround]
[Verse 2]
There are reasons I waited so long
To go and write this little song
I took some detours back in the day
But never let my dreams fade away
I keep pushing forward, taking chances
In spite of the circumstances
Finances, brief glances, advances,
Sometimes finding new romances
[Chorus]
Doesn’t matter how long it takes
What counts is I’m still tryin’
I know I shoulda done it sooner
But I’m livin life on my own terms
Yeah I've always known I was a late bloomer
[Bridge]
They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks
But I’m still learning at 66
[Chorus]
Doesn’t matter how long it takes
What counts is I’m still tryin’
I know I shoulda done it sooner
But I’m livin life on my own terms
Oh I've always known I was a late bloomer
[Instrumental outro]
