    Backstory:
I got the idea from a song I wrote with a NSAI co-writer called; "Country is Who I am." I did not copy any lyrics or melody from that song or any other.

    Lyrics:

Slice of Heaven [Verse 1] The rooster's crow wakes me at dawn I grab my boots and pull em on Feed the cows bale the hay I find comfort in this simple way There's a hole in the old barn roof The tractor needs fixin too Got to hustle there's corn to shuck Time to call up cousin Chuck [Chorus] I may drive an old pickup truck Work real hard & pray I don't run outta luck I don't need earthly possessions This is my little slice of heaven [Instrumental [Verse 2] Well I like hittin them fishin holes Cooler full of beer and an old dirt road Cool breeze blowin across my face Feel so blessed here in this place Oh the city life just ain't for me I'm a country boy from Tennessee Friends and kinfolks always there To lend a hand when life's been unfair [Chorus] I may drive an old pickup truck Work real hard & pray I don't run outta luck I don't need earthly possessions Cause this is my little slice of heaven [Instrumental] [Bridge] Rough hands find a soft embrace Put a smile on any man's face Love and grit, live in this place Yeaaaaah; love and grit live in this place [Verse 3] My woman rubs my back at night Her tender lovin makes everything alright I give thanks each and every day That I get to live my life this way [Chorus] I'll drive that old pickup truck Work real hard & pray I don't run outta luck I don't need earthly possessions Cause this is my little slice of heaven [Outro] Yeaaaahhh; this ain't just a piece of land It's my own little slice of heaven © Michael D.
