Wrote this during the plandemic. Got some grief for it but I wouldn't change a thing about the message.

THE ONLY ONE

His family thinks he's crazy
A duck of odd persuasions
A man who'll seldom bend to a social trend
He won't pretend
A strange anachronism prone to claim a major schism
'Tween the way things were
And the way they just might end
Sometimes he questions his own sanity
Could it be
He remembered it all wrong?
Were those “Good old days” just fantasies
Played on bright marquees
Songs with melodies
Is he THE ONLY ONE
Who still recalls all the battles won
And won't retreat and watch his world undone...
Used to be the neighbors
Would often stop and chat the weather
Now he doesn't see them much at all
They never call
They've joined some congregation
A strict denomination
Of cloth covered faces
Kids and all
Perhaps they've forgotten all the lessons learned,
Just lost sight
Of the light that guides us all
He'll pray that close harmonies
Will soon return
And set them free
And that,
He's not THE ONLY ONE
Who still recalls all the battles won
And won't retreat and watch this world undone...
