Backstory:

This past winter season was extremely harsh in many areas. Song is about a trip across the country and hitting many of the worse spots weather-wise.

Storm hit in November, they called it thundersnow
I was driving on the Thruway outside of Buffalo
Snow blew off Lake Erie for several days or more
Five feet high and rising, worse than I have seen before

They had to move the Bills game, played it in Detroit
My car broke down on the 8 Mile, a road I should avoid
Thought I’d see Wyoming on the way to Malibu
Sure gets cold in Casper, it was -42

Atmospheric rivers, flooding rain and snow
California shaking as I left the wet west coast
To the Mississippi Delta and through an EF4
An octave above thunder and I won’t forget the roar

Back home in the Catskills, back to the great northeast
In time for a nor’easter, trees tore down in the streets
Icy roads and power out crippling my hometown 
I need a safe vacation where the sky is not falling down
