Backstory:
The idea for this song is from personal experience. In September 2011, I lost my wife of 24 years to pancreatic cancer. I did not wish to write a hundred percent sad song (like Bobby Goldsboro's "Honey" which always makes me cry) so I brought the idea to my best co-writer, Al Compton and we opted to add a measure of comfort. This song was written for believers in God but anyone can listen.

My Spirit’s Still Alive
Michael Nichols & Al Compton
Key of: D Tempo: 125 Genre: Country/Christian
Verse 1:
The angels took you away from me
And I nearly lost my mind
Then you whispered in my ear
I did not leave you behind
God called me to come up here
Sit beside his (glorious) throne
To watch over you (my) dear
And (honey) he wants you to know
Chorus:
That I'll always be right here
Watching you from on high
Though my body's in the ground
Oh my spirit's still alive
I never wanted to hurt you
Please be happy for our lives
I’m waiting to greet you here
My spirit is still alive
Verse 2:
I know you feel so all alone
And yes I know you wonder why
If I had things my way
I'd heal your broken heart tonight
Can’t you feel my arms around you
As you sit in our house and cry
I want to comfort you so badly
And wipe the teardrops from your eyes
Repeat Chorus Twice/Outtro
