The Saga of the Remorseless Mother
Three came through the garden
All in a dark shade of blue
She smiled as she addressed them
‘Gentlemen how do you do’
And they lead her to the courtroom
Then to a State cell on death row
Came the day to meet her maker
She was all ready to go
She showed no remorse so the newspapers said
Well what’s the point of sorry if you’d do it again
As the preacher prayed for her
A young man with her same eyes
Walked along the silent hallway
He’d come to say goodbye
She greeted him tenderly
The guards had never seen her cry
As she finally told her story
He understood for the first time
She showed no remorse so the newspapers said
Well what’s the point of sorry if you’d do it again
The young man left the chambers
And the mother he hardly knew
With all his questions answered
And new insight to the truth
As a bright light hovered over
And peace finally filled her veins
She dreamt of her now grown son
Thankful for the choice she made
She showed no remorse so the newspapers said
Well what’s the point of sorry if you’d do it again
The son walked through the garden
And the house where he was born
Pulling off the dusty covers
Not sure what he was looking for
Found a picture of his father
Relieved they didn’t look alike
And he cried hard for his mama
Protecting him that deadly night
She showed no remorse so the newspapers said
Well what’s the point of sorry if you’d do it again
And the hills rose from the water
The sun rose from the hills
And a butterfly from the heavens
Came to rest by him on the window sill
