Backstory:
So this kind of fell out of my head this week. Think this theme is usually very much a man theme (girl left country boy behind) and wanted to try and edgy, Kacey Musgrave-ish take from a female's perspective a female that is sweetly reminiscent but bold and confident in her choice to keep on her own path....... she's not a city girl and she's basically content with that. That said, this would be extremely easy to turn into a man's point of view which may be more commercial.... also i know memories of young love is NOTHING new so maybe it just can't be said in a fresh way, it was just something i wanted to write because i love travel, and city life and seeing the world but at the end of the day, i am happiest around a campfire at the ranch. So appreciative of your feedback, as always. robbi
Lyrics:
Wide Open Sky
Verses:
heard he’s in Manhattan
kicking ass taking names
me i’m still a cowgirl
not much changes on the range
where we once spread quilts
shared moonshine by starlight
campfires snapped, coyotes howled
and we stayed up all night
covered some bases
and a few home runs
never occurred to us
that we wouldn’t stay young
Chorus:
And I had roots firmly planted
he had wings that needed to fly
wonder if we’d had ‘em both
would we have had to say goodbye
he craved action, adventure
buildings 80 floors high
and all i ever wanted
was a wide open sky
Verses:
i prefer to view life
from my weathered saddle
riding my gal cherry pie
sunsets in a field of cattle
it may not be glamorous
but it’s a beautiful life
Lord knows I’d never be
a proper city mans wife
Chorus:
Cause I had roots firmly planted
he had wings that needed to fly
wonder if we’d had ‘em both
would we have had to say goodbye
he craved action, adventure
buildings 80 floors high
and all i ever wanted
was a wide open sky
bridge:
he’s part of the lands stories
that were written over time
and when i think about him
it always makes me smile
Chorus:
And I had roots firmly planted
he had wings that needed to fly
wonder if we’d had ‘em both
would we have had to say goodbye
he craved action, adventure
buildings 80 floors high
and all i ever wanted
was a wide open sky
