Backstory:

A deeply personal lyric written by Jane about the profound loss of her sister who was a 'soul sister' even though 14 years older. The huge bond between us as sisters, friends, and spiritually was unique and loving. The song came out of caring and walking beside her through her terminal illness for just over a year in 2007- 2008 though wrote the lyric in 2018/19.  It was an irrevocable, life changing loss which I am still dealing with and learning from. Probably always will be. 
Keen to get the final song the best it can be as a tribute to my sister.  So the lyric (version 1) got a 5 score semi finalist 2019 UK song writing contest a as lyric only. We composed a tune  in 2020 based on some early melodies Jane had started.
We changed the original lyric  version 2 below), cutting out the intro, outro but leaving it in as the bridge.  This was partly to reduce the length and repetition in the song and also because we had been listening to Paul Welller's 'You do Something to me' and wanted to put a bit of a different/ less traditional structure to it. (lyric 2) 
We had to change the lyrics and edit some words to make it fit the tune and chords emerging as we collaborated plus we felt 'Hey soul sister' lyric was too like Lady Marmalade.
Now has a verse, chorus , bridge , verse structure right now. But very open to ideas to change that also.
Put a rough recording of the new lyric/structure to the tune we came up with in to the UK song writing' Work in Progress 'and it only got a 3. We are looking for some feedback to see how we could make it the song it deserves to be. Taking a strong lyric to make into a good tune has been challenging.
Sincere apologies for such a rough basic recording - we haven't been able to record on multitrack inside at all at all so it was just a strum along in one take and a rough as it was just a first try through.
