This song came out of a songwriting class I did recently.
Lyrics:
The Big Picture
There’s a photo in a gold frame on the wall
Full of people smiling, you can see us all
Looks like we don’t have a care in the world
Back when my Dad still had his hair
We’re gathered round him in his easy chair
With my mom and brothers and me, the only girl
Chorus:
If I knew back then what I know now
I wouldn’t have stood so proud
It’s really true that ignorance is bliss
Cuz we were in for a bumpy ride
I learned to read between the lines
Now I wonder what other little things I missed
In the Big Picture
The fighting started after that
My mama left us with our Dad
She had to go away to find herself
And me, I grew up way too fast
Trying to leave the hurt there in the past
Chorus:
If I knew back then what I know now
I wouldn’t have stood so proud
It’s really true that ignorance is bliss
Cuz we were in for a bumpy ride
I learned to read between the lines
Now I wonder what other little things I missed
In the Big Picture
Bridge:
What you see ain’t what you get
And I forgive but don’t forget
I guess I haven’t got there yet
Chorus:
If I knew back then what I know now
I wouldn’t have stood so proud
It’s really true that ignorance is bliss
Cuz we were in for a bumpy ride
I learned to read between the lines
Now I wonder what other little things I missed
