    Backstory:
More of a “Story Song”, this song is a bit of a departure from my usual Traditional Country style.
It was written in remembrance of the loss of the fishing boat, “The Miss Ally” and her 5 young crew members out of Woods Harbour, Nova Scotia. There is a lot of factual information available online about this fairly recent maritime tragedy, that happened on Feb. 17,2013.

    Lyrics:

Heaven’s Sweet Shore Songwriter: Dan O’Brien, © Feb. 24, 2013 Vs 1 They sailed her out past Cape Sable one winter evening so fair, They didn’t know it would be the last time, For the cold North Atlantic would claim them out there In a gale of the very worst kind. Vs 2 Friends and companions since childhood days They’d leave family and loved ones behind, When a rogue wave from hell flipped their boat upside down, They knew they’d come to the end of the line. Ch 1 Five gallant young fishermen, lost out at sea, They’ll be seen in Woods Harbour no more, For the Lord called them home on that cold, windy day, The day they sailed The Miss Ally to heaven’s sweet shore. Vs 3 In the midst of the maelstrom a figure appeared, On the waves, bathed in shining white light, He said, “Don’t be afraid boys, please come here to Me, You’ll all be with Me in heaven tonight. Vs 4 The young captain said, “Yes Lord we’ll do as You ask But what of our families back home?” He said, “My son don’t you worry, for they’ll know you’re with Me And that I won’t leave you out here alone.” Ch 2 Five gallant young fishermen, lost out at sea, They’ll be seen in Woods Harbour no more, For the Lord called them home on that cold, windy day, The day they sailed The Miss Ally to heaven’s sweet shore.
