what life was like
in my childhood Decembers……

we didn’t ask for a lot of fancy things
that came with payment plans and warranty’s
a raggedy ann or a GI JOE
box of crayons…….. a new pack of play dough
oh those simple holidays were solid gold

we didn’t have six trees with different themes
didn’t decorate before thanksgiving 
life unfolded face to face inside our homes
not in cyber space or on cell phones

when i look at our old Christmas cards

we ate lots of really weird things
ladies put potted meats in gelatin rings
we sure didn’t eat then the way we do now
but we made it through to tell anyhow
