One year old, he’s wobbling toward me Holding the edge of the coffee table 
He lets go, stands still for a moment, then zooms right past me as I say “Be careful” 
On his way, on his own- I blink my eyes and I swear he grows

He moves away in baby steps It's nature's way of helping me accept 
He's growing up before my eyes  A fleeting glimpse, I realize

Sixteen years old, where'd the time go? He's holding on tightly to a steering wheel 
Gives it a little gas, pulls away a bit too fast, down our street as I pray that he’s careful
