Backstory:
I wrote this after talking to a friend who lost his house in a Hurricane with no insurance. As I was attempting to console him he said he was fine - he still had his faith and his family and that was all he really needed.
Lyrics:
Everything
(Kayanek)
He'd weathered many hurricanes so this was just one more
Plywood on the windows stock up at the store
When ordered off the island he didn't leave at first
But he knew it was time to go when the storm got worse
A voice in his heart told him to evacuate
So he packed up the family and said a prayer the day
chorus
He lost everything but his faith
The house that he grew up in completely washed away
A lifetime of possessions in a pile of memories
He lost everything but what he really needs
The riverbank his house sat on's seen heavy rain before
Stack some extra sandbags to bolster up the shore
Ignoring the flood warnings cuz' he thought he had control
But as the waters quickly rose he knew he had to go
A voice in his heart told him to evacuate
So he packed up the family and said a prayer the day
repeat chorus
He's gonna miss that house and all the things he loved inside
But the only thing that matters is that his family's still alive
repeat chorus
He lost everything but faith and family
He lost everything but he's still got what he needs
