Backstory:
I wrote this song about a true story about a baby left at a fire station a few years ago.
Within a few days it was in the hands of a seminary student and his wife who had been praying to adopt a child but had a number of near misses. It's a great true story.
Seems like this song can be sung by either a male or female.
Lyrics:
FOREVER HOME
(Phillip Sandifer, 2014)
There he was, just as the caller said
Tucked behind the brush, near the fire station door
The chief took him in, to this designated shelter
And they cared for the infant until they knew more
And in the tapestry of circumstance they hoped
That somehow this baby would not end up alone
Lives collide, in the playing out of providence
Routine, desperation, hopelessness and hope
And who knows why, but sometimes in the chaos
The strong help the weak and in an ensemble of need
A child finds a forever home
Just a normal day, work to do, bills to pay
A call comes in that was gonna change their lives
A baby had been found, it may be just what they’d longed for
But they must give an answer by this afternoon at 5:00
And in a family about to change forever
Hope raises its voice, pulls them together
Chorus:
Bridge:
Links in a chain, each part is played
Help is the constant, hope is the glue
It’s hard to explain, but sometimes pain
Leads to the answers nobody knew
