Backstory:
Jim Malec, co-writer, came up with the original concept and many of the lyric ideas. Then we collaborated on the lyrics and I wrote the melody. With so many people getting tattoos these days, it seemed likely that many could relate to this story.
Lyrics:
I've got a heart I wear on my left shoulder
With your initials carved inside
Three little letters written in a color
That matches the red in my eyes
And it's not that big it's not that bold
If you see this heart you'd probably never know
How much it hurts
How deep the colors run
How that ink burns
Like I’ve been branded
There’s not a day
I don't feel it there
The scar won’t fade
You left me stranded
I’m still in love with you
And that's why (I hate/I need/I’ll keep) this tattoo
This mark's become a constant reminder
And now I wish I'd picked the rose
But I was sure we’d last forever
So it was you that I chose
Tell me how to get you out of me
Don’t you care at all can’t you even see
CHORUS
Another tattoo could disguise it
But nothing I do can hide
CHORUS
