Backstory:
Though I've known the Saturday Night Fever album my entire life, I've never seen the movie until recently. After dancing along with John Travolta in my living room, I was inspired to write a disco song.
I'm really struggling with the melody...help!
Also, a couple of other things: 1. don't laugh....yes, I know I'm no Andy Gibb with my falsetto! 2. The verse and prechorus melody aren't all that similar in actuality; it just came out that way when I sang it 3. I believe I sang the chorus the same twice but really it's slightly different 4. no bridge melody yet...suggestions?
Thanks,
Kathy
Lyrics:
DISCO GIRL
Verse 1
Friday night my guy blew me off
Got a date with Tivo
But the only thing I'll be turning on
Are reruns of The Love Boat
Prechorus
So so so I break out my crystal ball
And my tarot deck
And I step step step into my time machine and take a deep breath
Chorus
And I'm back in 78
Hooking up with John Travolta
Sharing a glass of cheap champagne
I chase it down with a pepsi cola
Twirling on the dance floor with a guy and his jheri curl
And he smiles over at this boogie oogie disco girl, disco girl, disco girl, disco girl
Verse 2:
Electric slide and I glide over the beat
Grooving to a cool synthesizer track
This moment takes me higher
O I'm never going back
Prechorus
But but but I start to get a little homesick
And miss my family and friends
But just just just as I'm leaving, my nostalgia wins
Chorus
And I stay in 78
Hook up again with John Travolta
Share another glass of cheap champagne
Chased down with a pepsi cola
Twirling on the dance floor with a guy and his jheri curl
And he smiles over at this boogie oogie disco girl, disco girl, disco girl, disco girl
Bridge:
As the nighttime ends
I head back home
And look into my mirror
And see the disco ball hangin' crystal clear
And I see
Chorus:
Me in 1978
Hookin up with John Travolta
Sharing a glass of cheap champagne
Chased down with pepsi cola
Twirling on the dance floor with a guy and his jheri curl
And he smiles over at this boogie oogie disco girl
