Backstory:
Near the time of our sons wedding, my wife had been disappointed that she was unable to find a suitable mother-son song for their dance.
After doing an internet search of my own, I was surprised to learn that there were almost none and certainly none that had been hits. Over the years, the charts are full of dad-daughter songs...strange.
That is when I decided to write one and here it is.
Lyrics:
THE BEST IS YET TO COME
V1
I see your green toy soldiers in a box with a mask from Halloween
Your first grade pictures lying there with a cap from your old ball team
Your bedroom seems so empty now, without you in it son
But as you start your life with your new bride, I know the best is yet to come
CHORUS
Take her hand
Spread your wings
Fly as one
And build a million memories
I wish you joy
Oh, I wish you love
And I trust in God
That the best is yet to come
V2
Well, there’s smiling faces all around and the vows have all been said
There’s a pretty girl who waits for you with a white veil on her head
As we move across the dance floor, I’m so proud of you son
And I look in your eyes and realize, that the best is yet to come
Repeat chorus
Instrumental
Repeat chorus
