Backstory:
Marcia and I were sitting around feeling a bit bummed one day. I told her the story of a man who walks around town singing at the top of his lungs that Sara and I see all the time. He was kind of a nutty guy taking bows on these main roads after singing while cars just keep driving right on by. Anyway, we wondered what made him so happy when he had the same old ripped clothes and Marcia and I were sitting around in this lovely writer's room feeling bummed about life. We thought maybe we could learn something from him.
Lyrics:

V1:
THERE’S AN OLD BLACK MAN WALKING DOWN THE STREET
WEARING WORN OUT SHOES AND TATTERED CLOTHES
HE’S SINGING AS LOUD AS HE CAN
SMILING AT THE WORLD SO I WANNA KNOW
WHY I’M SITTING IN MY SUV
AS COMFORTABLE AS I CAN BE
AND HE’S THE ONE THAT REALLY SEEMS HAPPY
I CAN HEAR HIM SINGING...
CHORUS:
LA LA LA LA LA LA
LA LA LA LA LA LA
LA LA LA LA LA LA
IS ANYBODY LISTENING?
V2:
WHEN I GOT HOME SAW MY NEIGHBOR JENNY
AND HER LITTLE BOY PLAYING OUT IN THE YARD
SHE’S A SINGLE MOM SHE’S GOT IT ROUGH
WORKS TWO JOBS AND DRIVES A BEAT UP CAR
I’VE GOT MORE THAN I’LL EVER NEED
AND THEY'RE STRUGGLING JUST TO MAKE ENDS MEET
BUT THEY'RE THE ONES THAT REALLY SEEM HAPPY
I CAN HEAR THEM SINGING...
(REPEAT CHORUS)
BRIDGE:
I STARTED TO LAUGH
THEN I STARTED TO CRY
THEN I STARTED TO THINK
THAT THE SECRETS OF LIFE
STARTED SOMEWHERE IN THEIR SIMPLE SONG
SO I STARTED TO SING ALONG
(REPEAT CHORUS)
