Backstory:
Chip and I wrote this song a few years ago for a multi-harmony country group who ended up not covering it. Chip then had the opportunity to play guitar for the 70's Classic Rock band, Orleans, who had several hit songs during the mid-70's- mid-80's. Earlier this year they went hunting for a Christmas song and chose this one. Chip also happened to be the one to produce it.
Lyrics:
The Sound of Christmas
John Cirillo(ASCAP) and Chip Martin(BMI)
It’s the crackle of the fire
As the pinecones pop like corn
It’s Autry singing Rudolph
While the little ones sing along
It’s grandpa dressed like Santa
Laughing, Ho Ho Ho
That’s the sound of Christmas we all know
It’s the crinkle of wrapping paper
Followed by the oohs and aahs
Then it’s off to church to hear the choir
And all give thanks to God
It’s the silence of the morning
Tucked in blankets of fresh snow
That’s the sound of Christmas we all know
Chorus:
Daddy says grace at the table
Three generations say amen
Then it’s eat and drink and talk and laugh
With family and friends
“Oh little town of Bethlehem” on the radio
That’s the sound of Christmas we all know
