Backstory:
Jessie, Carrie and I came together last summer or early fall and talked about writing a Christmas song. Jessie was really into it because she has some amazing Christmas stories with her family from when she was growing up. She decided to go into the "decorating the Christmas tree" story because it meant so much for her. And that is what we ended up writing about.
Lyrics:
Decorating That Tree
Jessie Treneer, Carrie DeMaeyer, John Cirillo
V1
First Sunday in December
It’s a day to remember
Mark my calendar every year
We put up our Christmas tree
Oh- what a sight to see
I guarantee
That you’ll hear
Dean Martin vinyl spinning
Silent night we’re all hanging
A piece of our own history
CHORUS
Every single decoration
Is a Christmas celebration
Of a special memory
Homemade Santas, silver bells
And the stories that they tell
Of my family
Yeah, it’s our wonderful, colourful life
decorating that tree
V2
Homemade candy canes
Handprints with crooked names
Peeking out between those blinking lights
Little presents on a string
And the tinsel twinkling
Looking magical & bright
Grandma’s angel made of gold
Broken wings but she still holds
The stories of a 100 winter nights
BRIDGE
As the years go on
The traditions still holds strong
In blue and gold and silver, red and green
