Backstory:
Nicole and I were trying to write a song for an organization that was promoting kindness during the political debates. We tried to make it a little more general so that it would apply to any circumstance anywhere.
Lyrics:
Keep It Kind
John Cirillo (ASCAP)/Nicole Lewis (ASCAP)
Words can build a bridge
Or burn it down oh oh oh
Words can start a war
Or rain peace on the battleground
We can reach our hands out
Or just turn them into fists
Sister brother
Aren’t we better than this?
Can’t we keep our hearts open
Our souls on colorblind, colorblind
Oh that rule so golden
Time to let it shine, gotta let it shine
What we need is a lot more lovin'
Cause when pushin' comes to shovin'
We don’t have to fight
Come on keep it kind
Mmmm
Come on keep it kind
You know we’re only human
And there’s no denying that
Easy to point that finger
With no mirror starin' back
Yeah hate’s a poison
Oh but love is twice as strong
You and me disagree but no need to be mean now
What we need is a lot more lovin'
Cause when pushin' comes to shovin'
We don’t have to fight
