Backstory:
One of my earlier collaborations based on a lyric by Kent Newsome. I tweaked the second verse and chorus, and wrote the melody and music. Recorded at Garrick Alden Studios in Laurel, MD.
Lyrics:
THE ONLY GIRL IN TOWN
(Kent Newsome - Robert Clay)
chorus: She’s not the only girl in town
She’s just the only one I want.
I know she’s not the only girl around
But she might as well be
She’s the only girl for me.
I stood in the rain
The night she said goodbye.
I called out her name
But she never came outside.
I was drowning in a flood of tears.
chorus
instrumental 1/2 chorus
Yes I was a fool,
A fast train on the track.
There’ve been other girls
But now I want her back.
I wish we could start over again.
chorus
