    Backstory:
Initially I had the idea for this song after watching a "Kids Say the Darndest Things" show. No kid said this specific line on the show---I just got to thinking what might be a "cool" thing for a kid to say. I started to script out the song.
Fast Forward: There was a Songu class assignment that gave me a chance to incorporate the idea. It went over well in the class. There were a few too many words (I tend to do that!!), so it needed to be a little tighter.

Since I am just learning guitar, I put the lyric concept out to some folks at Songu and John immediately took to it. He got a real good feel right away for the music/melody. That helped us to groom the lyric as well.

It has become my new favorite!!

    Lyrics:

I’ll tell God you said hi’ © Dan Robinson – John Wesley Coutts 2006 V.1. I was bored at a work convention ‘Til the speaker caught my attention With what he did in his spare time Visiting sick children With terminal conditions I decided to give it a try Met this great kid, and formed a bond instantly Y’know kids say the darndest things And this one really got to me He said Chorus I'll tell God you said hi And though you said you don’t pray much You're really a good guy He’ll understand why you been out of touch And if you’ve been meaning to write And want to believe with all your might He can make everything all right I'll tell God you said hi V.2. He spoke of dying Heaven, angel wings, and flying Said he’d be living in the sky I wasn't sure what to say I’d kinda lost my way And hadn’t talked to God in a while He smiled and said that’s okay he can see You had other stuff to do But now you’re spending time with me And Chorus Bridge Then one morning they said he wouldn’t make it through the day In his room I cried and softly touched his head His hands pressed together in his final prayer Held a note that read Chorus and tag
