    Backstory:
I wrote this song, inspired by the exhibit of Eucharistic Miracles, transposing the situation to our own time and our own State of Maine.

    Lyrics:

C 2011 Servants of the Blessed Sacrament. Words and Music by Sister Kay Kay, SSS BALLAD OF CORPUS CHRISTI VERSE 1 In the Church of Corpus Christi, Lost in the woods of Maine, He sauntered to the altar To run through the Rite again. He was nine years past first fervor, And his life of the looser kind, And he''d lately grown doubtful Concerning the bread and wine. VERSE 2 In the Church of Corpus Christi As he began the Mass For the gathered congregation Who''d been there Sundays past, He felt the doubts come rising For perhaps the hundreth time: Does christ come truly present When all I see is bread and wine? VERSE 3 In the Church of Corpus Christi Deep in the woods of Maine, He said the Consecration And expected it the same. But O the terror came on him: In his hands a heart of flesh, And blood dripped from the chalice To set his doubts at rest. VERSE 4 In the Church of Corpus Christi Deep in the heart of Maine, The Priest fell faint adoring, And the people did the same. The Mass became their center From that revelation day, And the bloodstains on the altar Never washed away.
