    Backstory:
A rare song from my own pen as I usually don''t pen too many songs on my own. Certainly employing a Waylon Jennings style - that Jamey Johnson is now using successfully. Some lines are cobbled from my hook book on ideas for drinking songs. This is a home demo on my 7-track analog machine (the 8th track died) to simply document the song. I'm singing and playing all instruments.

    Lyrics:

“THE LAW OF BEVERAGES AND HAPPY NEVER AFTER” (Bob Clay) I’m listening to a three chord symphony on the jukebox With a buzz big enough to set off car alarms across the street I examine the wreckage of my life through a shot glass I’ve chained myself to a whiskey soaked memory I’ve got yesterday, today and tomorrow all in the same room Tellin’ me that sorrow has over one hundred different shades I’m not reliving my drunken past, I’m doin’ it one better I’d be a genius if I had learned from my mistakes ch: Some might say I’m doomed with self-delusion But I’m bone deep in self-assurance This ain’t no common disaster It’s the Law of Beverages and Happy Never After Instead of finding answers, I end up with more questions Not once in thirty years have I ever been misled Nothing offers more solace than a glass of brown liquor on ice My graveyard epitaph will read: I should be dead. - chorus ©Bob Clay (telebob@aol.com) Billy Bob Bodine Music (BMI) All Rights Reserved.
