    Backstory:
This song was inspired by my visits to Mt. St. Joseph Nursing Home, where I sing for the patients in the Alzheimer's Unit once a month. Although the song does not mention God, I consider it a religious song because it's about faithful love, and God is Love. It reflects God's care for each of us.

    Lyrics:

    1. His gigling bride stood by his side, Snuggled close to him. He gazed with pride at his blue-eyed bride And vowed to fill her ev'ry whim. She said: CHORUS Get me roses in the wintertime When ice drops decorate the trees. And I'll know by that You always think of me. 2. The years went on; Children come and gone In the rush of day on day. And at each birth or anniversary, She'd giggle and she'd say CHORUS 3. Now he spends his days at the nursing home; Her face is blank as stone. He's been at it for a year and more; He knows she'll not come home. Then one day a blizzard raged; Blue light shone in her eyes. Leaning close, he heard her gurgle: "Get roses..." and she sighed. BRIDGE So he plowed his way to the florist. The head nurse met him at the door. He said,"I knew she'd go; I left anyway To get the roses I must lay In her grave, and more..." 4. He tiptoed to her broda chair; Laid the roses at her side, And kneeling down beside her, He broke at last and cried. Yet in his heart an echo came, Like snow behind a storm; Loving, lilting, laughing, The tender words sang on: CHORUS
