Backstory
I have three beautiful children. They are all unique, strong personality, good sense of humor, thoughtful. I'm so blessed! But they are kids, they are immature at times, forgetful, they make silly decisions. It's a beautiful ride and this song is about all of them!
Also, I wrote a song called "The Man I'm Trying To Be" when I found out I was going to be a dad for the first time. So the middle and youngest child have been saying, you have to write a song for us too!
Lyrics
[Verse]
When you grow up, I hope you have, a kid like you
Hates brushing teeth, cleaning up, can never find their shoes
Takes a sharpie, to your leather seats, and drives you crazy
(lift voice) I’ll laugh when they put you through, what you put me through
[Chorus]
And you’ll smile so big, when you hold em in the delivery room
Trade those Friday nights, to be home watching cartoons
I guess I’ll tell you the truth
(lift voice) Even if God let me choose
I’d still pick
A Kid Like You
A Kid Like You
[Verse 2]
When they fall down, scrape their knee, get a little boo boo
Their heart gets broke, the first time, you’ll feel it too
They try to lie, sneakin in, past curfew
(lift voice) I’ll remind ya, you did it too
[Chorus]
And you’ll smile so big, when you hold em in the delivery room
Trade those Friday nights, to be home watching cartoons
I guess I’ll tell you the truth
(lift voice) Even if God let me choose
I’d still pick
A Kid Like You
A Kid Like You
[Outro]
I’ll tell you exactly, what I’d do
I’d pick you
