GET UR BOOTS ON

Plays: 20
Backstory
I originally wrote this song about 15 years ago. I still liked the concept and recently restructure the verses, did a new demo with blend of some reggae vibes on the verses, and here we go;)
Lyrics
GET UR BOOTS ON
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
I heard your phone buzzing in the middle of the night
It got me wondering after a half a dozen times
It's a feeling, that something just ain't right
And damn, I had to look
(Ugh) say it ain't true, 'cause there's a text from your ex
Saying thank you for the dinner and the drinks
ain't it a shame you should've stayed for the night
'Cause now I have to wake you up and say

[Chorus]
Baby, get your boots on, you and me are done
I've been woken up by the sound of the one you used to talk so sweet to
And now I guess you still do
And I don't give a damn how you got your story spun
All I'm giving you is the time 'til this song is done
So you best be gone, you better get your boots on

[Verse 2]
I must have been dreaming of all the plans that you had me believing
About the future we were building as a team
When it was really just-a-one big illusion, ain't that right?
So much for the house and the big backyard
That we used to talk about, you had to work hard
I know you tried your very best to keep me in the dark
But now I'm turning on the lights (hey)

[Chorus]
Baby, get your boots on, you and me are done
I've been woken up by the sound of the one you used to talk so sweet to
And now I guess you still do
And I don't give a damn how you got your story spun
All I'm giving you is the time 'til this song is done
So you best be gone, you better get your boots on

[Bridge]
Now that Im lookin' back, I guess I must’ve been blind
I didn't see it coming, tell me, how did I miss the signs?
You could never say "I love you" and look me in the eye
Both at the same fuckin' time, so…

[Chorus]
Baby, get your boots on, you and me are done
I've been woken up by the sound of the one you used to talk so sweet to
And now I guess you still do
And I don't give a damn how you got your story spun
All I'm giving you is the time 'til this song is done
So you best be gone, you better get your boots on

[Outro]
You better get your boots on
(Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey)
You better get your boots on

WORTH REPEATING
Written by: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
Well baby I don’t think that I could ever get
Tired of that sunset
With you sitting right beside me
If that sounds crazy well I might be
But nature has its patterns
And I’m a creature of habit
One lifetime ain’t enough with you
I’m gonna need two

[Chorus]
So I can take you back to that old dancefloor
Put another ring on that finger of yours
One more time like this heart that keeps beating
What I meant when I said “I do”
Is I’d do it over and over
It’s true that every trip around the sun with you
Is worth repeating and repeating
It’s worth repeating

[Verse 2]
I still love the sound of my name coming off your lips
Just when I think that it
Couldn’t get any better than this
It gets better everytime we kiss
You’re like my favorite song ever written
The one that I keep on singing
Cause I just cant get enough
Always gotta turn you up

[Chorus]
I just wanna take you back to that old dance floor
I’ll put another ring on that finger of yours
One more time like this heart that keeps beating
What I meant when I said “I do”
Is I’d do it over and over
It’s true that every trip around the sun with you
Is worth repeating and repeating
It’s worth repeating

HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
If you got a broken bench
Girl, I can turn a wrench
Like anybody I know
If you need a tire changed
Just gotta say my name
I’ll get you back on that road
Pretty good at most things
But I’m still learning
How to better service your needs
Thank you for giving me
This opportunity
I can’t wait to see where this leads

[Chorus]
If you got some lips that need kissing
Feet that need rubbin’
Any part of you's
In need of some lovin’
A song that needs dancing
Dinner needs cooking
My application’s worth a good look
And I can start right now
C’mon and give me a chance
Girl, I’m making plans to
Get me some hands-on experience

[Verse 2]
Hard work it pays off
I won’t take no days off
I don’t need no paid holiday
If I apply myself
I know that I’ll excel
Might even get me a raise
Don’t need no manual
I’ll learn it as I go
You won’t regret it I swear
If your body’s creaking
In need of some tweaking
I’m the man you call for repairs

[Chorus]
If you got some lips that need kissing
Feet that need rubbin’
Any part of you's
In need of some lovin’
A song that needs dancing
Dinner needs cooking
My application’s worth a good look
And I can start right now
C’mon and give me a chance
Girl, I’m making plans to
Get me some hands-on experience

[Chorus - Alt Lyrics]
If you got a drink that needs fixing
A hand that needs holding
A little body heat to keep from gettin’ cold
Then you oughta take my number
Girl you never know
Let me show ya what these hands can do for you
And they can start right now
C’mon and give me a chance
Girl, I’m making plans to
Get me some hands-on experience
Yeah, I’m making plans to
Get me some hands-on experience

Lyrics
OUTSIDE OF GEORGIA
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
Took a left out of the drive on to 82
Pass the Dollar General
As I drove away from you
Then shot out on the freeway
Like an arrow leaves a bow
Don’t ask me when I’m coming back
Cause’ darlin’ I don’t know

[Chorus]
Now I lay my head in a Tennessee bed
That don’t mean l don’t dream of home
I left some good friends behind
I waved goodbye to my pines
To become one with the breeze and the unknown
You never know what you might find beyond that border
Yeah, this big old worlds got so much to offer
Outside of Georgia

[Verse 2]
I’m a little bit a dirt and a lot of dreams
I stay grounded to my roots
Like that Magnolia tree
Oh, but a cowgirl's gotta ride
Gotta see the other side
Don’t let this good life that God gave me
Pass me on by

[Chorus]
Now I lay my head in a Tennessee bed
That don’t mean l don’t dream of home
I left some good friends behind
I waved goodbye to my pines
To become one with the breeze and the unknown
You never know what you might find beyond that border
And this big old worlds got so much to offer
Outside of Georgia

[Solo]

[Chorus]
Now I lay my head in a Tennessee bed
That don’t mean l don’t dream of home
I left some good friends behind
I waved goodbye to my pines
To become one with the breeze and the unknown
We got another show tonight across the border
Yeah this big old worlds got so much to offer
Outside of Georgia
Outside of Georgia

GOD MADE WOMEN

Plays: 15
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Okay I'll be honest I don't mind admitting
I thought it was cool wearing jeans to that wedding
But apparently not everyone would agree
And I guess there's a difference between blonde and platinum
My buddies and I, we missed the memo on that one
But fortunately I got someone looking after me

[Chorus]
That's why God made women
To fix what needed fixing
And a little tenderness is good for the soul
We ain't too good at listening
But we're damn good at fishing and drinking
Insisting we know what we know
So we should stick to what we do best
And let our better halves handle the rest
When it comes to bad decisions
We're the definition
So let's all drink another beer
And cheers that God made women

[Verse 2]
She sent me to pick up oat milk and avocados
I came back with a new Coleman grill and some charcoal
My memory ain't what it used to be
That time I didn't realize that her favorite sweater
Would shrink half the size in the dryer
I'll never live that one down
Just goes to show that I need her around

[Chorus]
And that's why God made women
To fix what needed fixing
And a little tenderness is good for the soul
We ain't too good at listening
But we're damn good at fishing and drinking
Insisting we know what we know
So we should stick to what we do best
And let our better halves handle the rest
When it comes to bad decisions
We're the definition
So let's all drink another beer
And cheers that God made women

[Bridge]
We're so different in so many ways
She's a fine glass of wine
I'm beer in a cup
She's so soft on the eyes
Soft on the skin
But hard on me when I mess up

[Chorus]
And that's why God made women
To fix what needed fixing
And a little tenderness is good for the soul
We ain't too good at listening
But we're damn good at fishing and drinking
And insisting we know what we know
So we should stick to what we do best
And let our better halves handle the rest
When it comes to bad decisions
We're the definition
So let's all drink another beer
And cheers that God made women
So let's all drink another beer
And cheers that God made women

ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES

Plays: 21
Backstory
Just something I wrote while on a flight out of Florida one day.
Lyrics
ARRIVALS & DEPARTURES

[Verse 1]
If I said that I could’ve done better at managing time
And that I put my work before her, no, I wouldn’t be lying
Life on the road playing show after show
Ain’t everything that it seems
That’s how I learned the difference
And man, there a difference
Between living and losing your dream

[Chorus]
When that plane touched down
I didn’t see her face
Did she lose track of time
Or was she running late
She wasn’t at home
Didn’t pick up her phone
That’s the moment I knew that I'd lost her
Yeah, I was in arrivals
And she was in departures

[Verse 2]
I can’t help overthinking about how it didn’t work out
Oh, but all of the “what if’s” and “maybe’s”
Can’t save me right now
I’m sure there were signs there, but I was too blind
To busy to notice them
While my flight was landing
She'd done some planning
To make own final descent

[Chorus]
When that plane touched down
I didn’t see her face
Did she lose track of time
Or was she running late
She wasn’t at home
Didn’t pick up her phone
That’s the moment I knew that I had lost her
Yeah, I was in arrivals
And she was in departures

[Instrumental]

[Chorus]
When that plane touched down
I didn’t see her face
Did she lose track of time
Or was she just running late
She wasn’t at home
Didn’t pick up her phone
That’s the moment I knew I had lost her
Yeah, I was in arrivals
And she was in departures
I guess I was in arrivals
And she was in departures

Lyrics
Don't Lock the Door
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
Baby, I’m sorry bout
Them two strips I left on the road
I was just mad
But that’s still no good excuse I know
If I didn’t love you so much
I wouldn’t get so upset
Besides making up with you
Is just about as good as it gets

[Chorus]
Baby, don’t lock the door
Don’t turn off the light
Don’t think it for a minute
Consider it tonight was a hiccup
Can we just pick up
Where we left off right before
I’m turning round
This truck is homebound
Baby, don’t lock the door

[Verse 2]
I bet you probably
Would’ve let me get to the south pass
Or til I came to my senses
Maybe just til I ran out of gas
Whichever came first, I deserve it
Yeah that what I get
For picking a fight with a woman
That can put me out like a cigarette

[Chorus]
Baby, don’t lock the door
Don’t turn off the light
Don’t think it for a minute
Consider it tonight was a hiccup
Can we just pick up
Where we left off right before
I’m turning round
This truck is homebound
Baby, don’t lock the door

[Bridge]
To be perfectly honest
I don’t remember
The reason I was even mad at you
I guess I’m just calling
To tell you I’m sorry
And baby to ask you

[Chorus]
Don’t lock the door
Don’t turn off the light
Don’t think it for a minute
Consider it tonight was a hiccup
Can we just pick up
Where we left off right before
I’m turning round
This truck is homebound
Baby, don’t lock the door
I’m turning round
This truck is homebound
Baby, don’t lock the door

Lyrics
A BIGGER PICTURE
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
Sometimes this world don't make much sense
Everyone’s got scars
And everyone’s got dents
We’re all perfectly imperfect
I think deep inside we know it
Sometimes we just forget

[Chorus]
That we’re all drops in an ocean
One note of a song
We are stars in a universe
Yeah no one is alone
We’re pieces of a puzzle scattered out
On the kitchen table unconfigured
If we came together
We’d see a bigger picture
We would see a bigger picture

[Verse 2]
It’s hard to see the forest through the trees
There’s a part of me in you
And there’s a part you in me
The beauty of them Northern Lights
Is all the vibrant swirling colors
It’s not just black and white

[Chorus]
That we’re all drops in an ocean
One note of a song
We are stars in a universe
Yeah no one is alone
We’re pieces of a puzzle scattered out
On the kitchen table unconfigured
If we came together
We’d see a bigger picture
We would see a bigger picture

[Chorus]
Yeah, we’re all drops in an ocean
One note of a song
We are stars in a universe
Yeah no one is alone
We’re pieces of a puzzle scattered out
On the kitchen table unconfigured
If we came together
We’d see a bigger picture
We would see a bigger picture

GIVE ME A BEACH

Plays: 6
Backstory
I remember sitting in a Starbucks in New England around winter time writing these lyrics and wishing so bad I was somewhere warm. This song is probably the most requested song when I preform live acoustic. Even with new people who have never heard it, I see them singing along by the second chorus. Its infectious!
Lyrics
GIVE ME A BEACH
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Chorus]
Give me a beach
You put a drink in my hand
A couple of shots of some hot damn
Man, oh man, that's where I'm at peace
Give me a beach

[Verse 1]
Well I don't need no mountainside, no telluride
I'll tell you why, I like white sands with a blue sky
An island in the sun
I like to get high on a summit peak
But I'd trade it in for some Martinique
A little San Juan, get me tan on
Now that's what I call fun

[Chorus]
So give me a beach
You put a drink in my hand
A couple of shots of some hot damn
Man, oh man, that's where I'm at peace
Give me a beach
Not a fancy car, not a big old house like a movie star
Just a sandbar and a cold one in my reach
Give me a beach
Give me a beach

[Verse 2]
Well you can keep them city streets
Ain't no traffic jam on a palm beach
No parking signs, just tan lines
So you can park that next to me
A little later on when it gets cold
We'll pack it up and we can get low
To a little place I call Mexico
Now that's where I want to be

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
Let's spend our day in the sand by the sea
Baby, you don't need a top on, now girl, it's only you and me
You'll catch up on your sleep while I catch a couple waves
Not. a problem in the world, I could stay here for days
On the beach we lay on got the radio a-playin'
As the breeze be blowing and them palms be swaying
The sun goes down and the moon comes up
Yo, I think there's a hole in my cup

[Chorus]

BE MY EX-GIRLFRIEND

Plays: 13
Backstory
My buddy got engaged and started introducing his new fiancé as his ex-girlfriend and it always made me laugh.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
How long we gonna drag this out for
We both see where this things headin’
I know that we had some good times
Lately it’s got me thinkin’
We can’t continue like this
And I ain’t gonna waste your time
I bet you can probably tell
There’s something on my mind

[Chorus]
What I’m trying to say is
I think it’s time for a change
Changing your initials
Making it official
Starting with your last name
I’ll put a little bit of dirt on my knee
Put a little bit of shine on your hand
Baby, would you make me
The happiest man in the world and
Be my ex-girlfriend
Be my ex
Be my ex
Be my ex-girlfriend

[Verse 2]
Don’t lie, you know you saw this coming
It almost happened on our last vacation
But I knew before I asked ya
I had to have that conversation
I was nervous talking to your daddy
Asking for his blessing
He laughed and said spit it out son
Don’t ya keep me guessin’

[Chorus]
What I’m trying to say is
I think it’s time for a change
Changing your initials
Making it official
Starting with your last name
I’ll put a little bit of dirt on my knee
Put a little bit of shine on your hand
Baby, would you make me
The happiest man in the world and
Be my ex-girlfriend
Be my ex
Be my ex
Be my ex-girlfriend

[Chorus]
What I’m trying to say is
I think it’s time for a change
Changing your initials
Making it official
Starting with your last name
I’ll put a little bit of dirt on my knee
Put a little bit of shine on your hand
Baby, would you make me
The happiest man in the world and
Be my ex-girlfriend
Be my ex
Be my ex
Be my ex-girlfriend

DIRECTIONS

[Verse 1]
Once in a while when I'm driving
I still picture you beside me
But that memory, its as empty
As the seat you used to ride in
How'd you ever go from being the one
To the one that got away
I wish I knew how to get back to
You and yesterday

[Chorus]
'Cause if there's a road, I can't find it
And I've been all over this town, and you ain't around
I looked east and west, right and left
And it left me to question
Can you ever find a heart after you lose it
If it didn't come with directions

[Verse 2]
Did you head southbound to your hometown
Or move into the city
Get an apartment like you wanted
Back when you were with me
All of the things I'd say and do if
I could make it better
I Just don't know how to put these pieces back together

[Chorus]
'Cause if there's a road, I can't find it
And I've been all over this town, and you ain't around
I looked east and west, right and left
And it left me to question
Can you ever find a heart after you lose it
If it didn't come with directions

[Bridge]
There ain't a stone I left unturned
So maybe it's a lesson that I gotta learn

[Chorus]
'Cause if there's a road, I can't find it
And I've been all over this town, and you ain't around
I looked east and west, right and left
And it left me to question
Can you ever find a heart after you lose it
If it didn't come with directions
Didn't come with directions

[Outro]
Once in a while when I'm driving
I still picture you beside me

Lyrics
BOURBON WITH A SUNSET
Writer: Izzy malek

[Verse 1]
I still remember it was September
And that late day sun was kissing your face
We had a handle of Jack Daniels
Or maybe it was Buffalo Trace
Me and you we had a few and I knew one thing for sure
We were both a little too drunk to drive
So we sat back in them Adirondack chairs
And watched that sun strike a match to the sky

[Chorus]
And that's when I asked you
What you doing for the rest of your life
If you ain't careful with me girl then I just might be
That kind of guy who tries to make you his wife
When I look back on that moment
There ain't a single thing I regret
Every word was the truth
You and me are the proof of what you get
When you mix bourbon with a sunset

[Verse 2]
You've got a memory as good as any
That's one thing I've always loved about you
But you're mistake is we drank Makers
And I think we had more than a few
Well either way that was a day that I will never forget
Girl you really looked so surprised
When we sat back in them Adirondack chairs
I took a sip as I looked into your eyes

[Chorus]
And that's when I asked you
What you doing for the rest of your life
If you ain't careful with me girl then I just might be
That kind of guy who tries to make you his wife
When I look back on that moment
There ain't a single thing I regret
Every word was the truth
You and me are the proof of what you get
When you mix bourbon with a sunset

TRUCK STOP (EDM BLEND)

Plays: 1
Lyrics
TRUCK STOP
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
I had the radio up and the windows down
Just shooting the breeze, driving through town
Not a care in the world, nobody with me
Just me and my F-150
I took a left onto Belmont, down to the corner
Looked to my right, man, that’s when I saw her
I would’ve crashed when she looked my way
If I hadn’t slammed on the breaks

[Chorus]
She can make a truck stop
Back it up and put it in park
That girl can make a head spin
Grab your attention, did I mention
She could make a buck drop
Without a single gunshot
That girl can take a cold day
And turn it into a heatwave
Cause she’s so hot
That she can make a truck stop
She know how to make a truck stop

[Verse 2]
I asked her her name, and I told her mine
I got a pick up truck full of pick up lines
What’s an angel like you doing in this town
With her feet so close to the ground
That got her laughing she couldn’t resist
I said hop on in let me give you a lift
She’s got her hand on my knee
And her head on my shoulder
Man, I had to pull on over

[Chorus]
She can make a truck stop
Back it up and put it in park
That girl can make a head spin
Grab your attention, did I mention
She could make a buck drop
Without a single gunshot
That girl can take a cold day
And turn it into a heatwave
Cause she’s so hot
That she can make a truck stop
She know how to make a truck stop

[Bridge]
Further down the road I put a ring on her finger
Traded in that truck for this Toyota Sienna
Bought a house and a dog
We had a couple of kids
And she looks good as she ever did

[Chorus]
'Cause she can make a truck stop
Back it up and put it in park
That girl can make a head spin
Grab your attention, did I mention
She could make a buck drop
Without a single gunshot
That girl can take a cold day
And turn it into a heatwave
Cause she’s so hot
That she can make a truck stop
She know how to make a truck stop

HARDWOOD

Backstory
I woke up with this title in my head. About 45 minutes later, the song was written. Funny how that happens sometimes.
Lyrics
Hardwood
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
My ex-girlfriend, she didn't like to do it
No, she didn't like to dance, that's how I knew it
Wasn't gonna work out, I needed someone
Who wanted to have a little fun

[Verse 2]
After we parted ways, it didn't take long
I was hanging out down at this honky-tonk
I met this young cowgirl, a little shy but
That all changed when I got her up

[Chorus]
On the hardwood, the way that she moves
Shaking them hips to the groove
On the hardwood, she can go all night long
Even in the early morning
She's all over me like a farmer's tan
I love it 'cause she's such a fan
Of the hardwood

[Verse 3]
No cedar or pine, no redwood or fir
The truth of it is, they're all too soft for her
When she gets them boots on ain't no stoppin’ my girl
Watch me as I give her a twirl

[Chorus]
On the hardwood, the way that she moves
Shaking her hips to the groove
Up on the hardwood, she can go all night long
Even in the early morning
She's all over me like a farmer's tan
And I love it 'cause she's such a fan
Of the hardwood
Of the hardwood
Let's go

[Instrumental]

[Bridge]
She don't need the biggest dance floor in town
But not too small, she likes to move around
From the front to the back, left to the right
I can hardly keep up sometimes

[Chorus]
On the hardwood, the way that she moves
Shaking them hips to the groove
Up on the hardwood, she can go all night long
To all her favorite country songs and
She'll grab a drink at the bar then we’re at it again
She might even bring back a friend
To the hardwood
Yeah, the hardwood
Yeah, the hardwood
She likes to dance on the hardwood

PEOPLE WHO SAY HI (Female Vocal)

Plays: 0
Backstory
My girlfriend and I go mountain bike riding at a local state park here in New England. We pass a lot of people out walking or riding. A lot of them offer a smile or a nod. Many of them will say hi as we pass. However, sometimes we pass someone and they won't look at you or offer any sense of acknowledgement that there is another human being right next to you in this beautiful nature setting. It's such a strange feeling. We both agreed that we liked people who say "hi". I started singing the melody of the chorus while we were riding. Came home and wrote the song. It's kindness pure and simple and it does bring me back to how life was when I was a kid. I feel like it's something we've lost in todays hustle and bustle.
Lyrics
PEOPLE WHO SAY HI
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
I took a walk downtown today
Look around, everybody's on their phone
Even busy city streets
Kind of feel like everyone's alone

[Pre Chorus]
But now and then I get
Somebody who looks right back
There's an honesty you can't deny

[Chorus]
With people who say hi
They smile when they walk by
Somebody that will shake your hand and look you in the eye
It's kindness like that
That brings me right back
Before the world got small, when people used to ask
How are you, then they would wait for your reply
I guess them are just a couple reasons why
I like people who say hi

[Verse 2]
I took a call from a friend of mine, she said
"Ain't it time you put some roots beneath them boots"
A place they all know your name
Where you can always return and regroup

[Pre Chorus]
We'll find a couple barstools
First round I got you
We'll drink a beer and watch the time go by

[Chorus]
With people who say hi
They smile when they walk by
Somebody that will shake your hand and look you in the eye
It's kindness like that
That brings me right back
Before the world got small, when people used to ask
How are you, then they would wait for your reply
I guess them are just a couple reasons why
I like people who say hi

[Bridge]
When we were kids, our sentences would end in ma'am and sir
And everybody knew exactly who their neighbors were

[Chorus]
They were people who say hi
They'd smile when they walk by
Somebody that would shake your hand and look you in the eye
It's kindness like that
That brings me right back
Before the world got small, when people used to ask
How are you, then they would wait for your reply
I guess them are just a couple reasons why
I like people who say hi

I knew the moment I first saw your face
it Was something I needed to see every day
I know it's crazy but baby I swear it's the truth
And I know your eyes are the deepest of blue
Cause they're the ones I always used to stare into
But there's something new about you that I'd like to forget

[Chorus]
I never knew I'd be your ex
I never knew I'd be the one you'd regret
I know we had our problems but I didn't know you'd solve them like that
I never thought you'd let me go
That I'd become somebody you used to know
I guess I was wrong thinking you'd be the one that never left
I never knew I'd be your ex

[Verse 2]
I know how much you cried when we lost your grandmother
I know how much you miss her and how much you loved her
I miss her too but I know someday we'll see her again
And I know you're doing just fine without me
I know you found someone new to take that top off your jeep
And I know we had a hard road ahead of us but nevertheless

[Chorus]
I never knew I'd be your ex
I never knew I'd be the one you'd regret
I know we had our problems but I didn't know you'd solve them like that

RUN

Plays: 1
Backstory
I love a song that can take a word or a phrase and give different meaning to it throughout the songs verses. Perfect example is the brilliant and beautiful song by Kenny Chesney (written by Neil Thrasher & Wendell Mobley) There Go's My Life.
Lyrics
RUN
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
My first job was cutting grass
I was saving up from summers past
For a beat up Mustang down the block
In Mr. Reed's front yard
He was asking five, I offered three
With hesitation, he looked at me
Cash in hand, I said honestly
Sir, it's all I got
Then he cracked a smile and he said son
She's all yours if you
Can get her to run

[Chorus]
Like the Colorado River used to run
Like a sailboat in a gust of wind into a distant sun
Wild horses on the plains
And the blood that's in these veins
I bought something he considered done
With just a little bit of sweat
I knew I would get her to run

[Verse 2]
Spent all my time in that garage
Wrench in hand, replacing parts
It doubled as my escape
When mom and dad would fight
They'd been married since they were 23
And it was anything but happily
Things got worse and eventually
He'd slip out in the night
We can't undo the things we've done
I guess he tried his best
And his only choice left was to run

[Chorus]
Like the Colorado River used to run
Like a sailboat in a gust of wind into a distant sun
Wild horses on the plains
And the blood that's in these veins
Just as soon as he admitted they were done
He left his son and his wife for a new life
He decided to run

[Bridge]
Now I got a son of my own
And it's crazy to see how fast he's grown
And unlike that car and my old man, he's still young
But he's walking now and I know it won't be long
Till he begins to run

[Chorus]
Like the Colorado River used to run
Like a sailboat in a gust of wind into a distant sun
Wild horses on the plains
He's got my blood in his veins
I guess everything beneath the sun
Young and old, bought or sold, heaven knows
It's gonna run

CRUISE CONTROL

Plays: 0
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
If the brakes give out, we'll just ride the gas
And pray to God above that we don't crash
And if the gas runs out, well that's just the breaks
God don't give us nothing we can't take

[Chorus]
Life sometimes is a winding road
And they say nobody rides for free
But my life feels like cruise control
Ever since you've been riding next to me

[Verse 2]
We can turn around if we get lost
Or we can get lost and see where it might lead
Just as long as we got them stars above us
That's the only roadmap that we'll ever need

[Chorus]
Life sometimes is a winding road
And they say nobody rides for free
But my life feels like cruise control
Ever since you've been riding next to me

[Bridge]
Let's just see how far this ride is gonna take us
We can stop and pick some flowers 'long the way if you like
Sometimes it ain't gonna go our way
But that's alright
It's just life
It's just

[Chorus]
Life sometimes is a winding road
And they say nobody rides for free
But my life feels like cruise control
Ever since you've been riding next to me

[Outro]
My life feels like cruise control
Ever since you've been riding next to me

Lyrics
SAME TRUCK, DIFFERENT GIRL
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
People wanna know
What’s gotten into me
Did you get a big promotion
Or win the lottery
If you think I’m acting funny
It ain’t cause I came into some money
I just got some new company
In the front seat next to me

[Chorus]
But I still smoke the same old smoke
Still drink the same old drink
Aside from them old wiper blades
I’ve barely changed a thing
I still got that dent
On my quarter panel side
But this smile on my face
It ain’t been there in a while
Everyone keeps asking me
What's changed in my world
I keep telling ‘em the same thing everytime
Same truck, different girl

[Verse 2]
I still drive about 85
On the interstate
That’s why I keep that dark tint
On my license plate
You might not recognize me
With this pretty little thing beside me
If you wanna know how I’m doing
I’m doing great!

[Chorus]
'Cause I still smoke the same old smoke
Still drink the same old drink
Aside from them old wiper blades
I’ve barely changed a thing
I still got that dent
On my quarter panel side
But this smile on my face
It ain’t been there in a while
Everyone keeps asking me
What's changed in my world
I keep telling ‘em the same thing
Same truck, different girl

[Chorus]
I still smoke the same old smoke
Still drink the same old drink
Aside from them old wiper blades
I’ve barely changed a thing
I still got that dent
On my quarter panel side
But this smile on my face
It ain’t been there in a while

Same truck, different girl

Lyrics
GET UR BOOTS ON
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
I heard your phone buzzing in the middle of the night
It got me wondering after a half a dozen times
It's a feeling, that something just ain't right
And damn, I had to look

[Pre-Chorus]
(Ugh) say it ain't true, 'cause there's a text from your ex
Saying thank you for the dinner and the drinks
ain't it a shame you should've stayed for the night
'Cause now I have to wake you up and say

[Chorus]
Baby, get your boots on, you and me are done
'Cause now I have to wake you up and say

[Chorus]
Baby, get your boots on, you and me are done
I've been woken up by the sound of the one you used to talk so sweet to
And now I guess you still do
And I don't give a damn how you got your story spun
All I'm giving you is the time 'til this song is done
So you best be gone, you better get your boots on

[Verse 2]
I must have been dreaming of all the plans that you had me believing
About the future we were building as a team when it was really just a one big illusion, ain't that right?
So much for the house and the big backyard that we used to talk aboutyou had to work hard
I know you tried your very best to keep me in the dark, but now I'm turning on the lights (hey)

[Chorus]
Baby, get your boots on, you and me are done
I've been woken up by the sound of the one you used to talk so sweet to
And now I guess you still do
And I don't give a damn how you got your story spun
All I'm giving you is the time 'til this song is done
So you best be gone, you better get your boots on

[Bridge]
Now that Im lookin' back, I guess I must have been blind
I didn't see it coming, tell me, how did I miss the signs?
You could never say "I love you" and look me in the eye
Both at the same fuckin' time, so

Lyrics
DRAWING LINES
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
Had a beer with my old man
We weren’t talking about the weather
But whether we could reconcile
Our differences together

[Verse 2]
Turns out stubbornness and politics
Are two things that just don't mix
I had my opinions
And man, did he have his

[Pre Chorus]
A couple years had passed since we last spoke
We ain’t getting any younger
And time proves it ain't no joke

[Chorus]
Cause the lines on his face
Remind me we ain’t here forever
We’d drawn lines in the sand
But they ain’t keeping us together
They only separate us
Ain’t it the same God that made us
We really ain’t that different you and I
But we keep drawing lines

[Verse 3]
My neighbor nextdoor
Don’t like the family down the street
They moved here from India
Back in ‘93
[Verse 4]
But they celebrate some holidays
That he ain’t accustomed
And that’s got him convinced
That he can’t trust ‘em

[Pre Chorus]
And it reminds me of all the wasted time
And the misunderstandings
Between my father and I

[Chorus]
And the lines on his face
Remind me we ain’t here forever
We’d drawn lines in the sand
But they ain’t keeping us together
They only separate us
Ain’t it the same God that made us
We really ain’t that different you and I
But we keep drawing lines

[Bridge]
My momma called last night and said
Your dad, he was in an accident
He’s gonna make it through
But I think that you should come see him

[Chorus]
And the lines on his face
Remind me we ain’t here forever
We’d drawn lines in the sand
But they ain’t keeping us together
They only separate us
Ain’t it the same God that made us
We really ain’t that different you and I
But we keep drawing lines

CHEAP DRINKS & LONELY WOMEN

Lyrics
Cheap Drinks & Lonely Women
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
I heard about this island that few people know
They say it's just like heaven, as the story goes
Rum-filled coconuts growing on the trees
If you find this place you're never gonna leave
They got a bar with a really good band
And lots of ladies always looking to dance
The only problem, there's just not enough men
So you have to dance with her and her friends

[Chorus]
They don't need no evening news
Oh man, they ain't got no problems
They ain't got no shirt, no shoes
But they got a real easy way of living
And they got cheap drinks and real lonely women

[Verse 2]
I set out for only God knows where
Swore that I'd find it if it was really out there
I headed southbound with a map in my hand
To find my paradise in the sand
I came upon this sleepy little town
No one spoke English, in fact there wasn't a sound
Until that evening when the sun got low
This little town began to explode

[Chorus]
The island drums, they filled the air
Oh man, we were as high as the stars in the sky
Nobody had no care
It was real and it was swinging, oh yeah
And we had cheap drinks and real lonely women

[Verse 3]
I sent a postcard to my friends back home
I'm gonna miss you, but I won't be alone
I'll be busy just working on my tan
With a rum-filled coconut in my hand

[Chorus]
We don't need no evening news
Oh man, we ain't got no problems
We ain't got no shirt, no shoes
But we've got a song that we've been singing, oh yeah
About cheap drinks and real lonely women
You know we've got cheap drinks and real lonely women

PUT YOU IN MY FAVORITES
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
Why’s it feel like I’ve known you for years
When it’s only been a month and a few cold beers
Ever since you put your number in my phone
My fingers just can’t help themselves
It’s the first place they go

[Chorus]
I’m gonna put you in my favorites
Right next to my mamma
You got your very own ring tone
Girl, you know I’m gonna
I’m gonna put your picture on my homescreen
You didn’t want me to take it
But you were looking so damn cute
That I couldn’t erase it
I’m gonna put you in my favorites

I can’t seem to get my fill of you
When your blowing me them kisses ‘cross the room
You got eyes that sparkle like champagne
I get drunk just looking in ‘em
Yeah, I’m just sayin’

Right next to my mamma

I have another version of this song that can be found on my SongU member page. It was originally titled "Put You In My Favorites". It has completely different chorus lyrics and I feel more suitable for a younger artist. I really liked the verse and chorus melodies so I decided to write a new chorus that would work for a broader age group... and so we have "Contact".

RUNNING LIGHTS

Plays: 1
Backstory
After writing this song, friends of mine played this at their fathers wake and funeral. He was an avid sailor who frequented an island bar that I play at. The summer following his passing the family visited the island to drill a hole in the bar where he used to sit and they put some of his ashes. They sealed it with a plaque with his name. That evening as they joined me for my show, one of the sons threw a twenty in my tip jar and asked if I could play "their fathers song 'Running Lights'." As almost on que of the first verse, a beautiful yellow, monarch butterfly flew into the bar, landed above the family's heads and sat there for the entire song. It didn't go unnoticed! The entire family was in tears and I fought my hardest not to join them as I struggled to sing the rest of the song. Again, on cue as the song ended, the butterfly took flight and exited through the side door into the salty air of the night. True story.

Side Note: I've been fortunate to spend time on many islands including St. John in the U.S.V.I. I always felt sad when it was time to leave but I knew I'd be back some day. I wanted to capture that melancholy feeling and write something that would resonate deeply with Kenny Chesney fans.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I say goodbye to the people
Of the island til we meet again
May your days be of ease
And a calm be your seas til then
Til we tie up again
Know that you will stay on my mind
When we come back to this place
Like birds of a season fly

[Chorus]
'Cause I know this is the place
That I’m going to be
When the ocean is done calling me
But I’ve got my running lights on
I got my running lights on
We will meet up again
I know that we will
But this ship wasn’t built to be still
I got my running lights on
I got my running lights on

[Verse 2]
So many boats in the harbor tonight
Their masts are a glow
Like the stars overhead
As above so below
And all the houses and towns
On the mainland are flickering
Like a distant reminder
Of where we will be heading

[Chorus]
I know this is the place
That I’m going to be
When the ocean is done calling me
But I’ve got my running lights on
I got my running lights on
We will meet up again
I know that we will
But this ship wasn’t built to be still
I got my running lights on
I got my running lights on
Too soon I’ll be gone

[Verse 3]
An old sailor once told me
As he nursed what was left in his glass
That sooner or later
We all sail the back of the map
He said life is a cycle
If there's one thing he’s learned to be true
It’s that every sunset gives birth to light somewhere new

[Chorus]
He said this is the place
That I’m going to be
When the ocean is done calling me
But I’ve got my running lights on
I got my running lights on
We will meet up again
I know that we will
But this ship wasn’t built to be still
I got my running lights on
I got my running lights on
Too soon I’ll be gone

LOVE ME WITH THE LIGHTS ON
Writer:Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
Life is a dance and I'm taking a chance on you
Just like you're taking a chance on me
I've been holding these cards up close to my chest
Afraid if I let you see
The hand I've been playing, would you be going?
Or would you be staying?
Life is a dance and I'm taking a chance on you
So tell me, will you

[Chorus]
Love me, love me, love me, love me
Love me with the lights on
Love me, love me, love me, love me
Love me with the lights on
Will we still be dancing in the morning?
Or waking up alone?
Are you gonna love me, love me, love me, love me
Love me with the lights on

[Verse 2]
It's easy to fall in a last call neon glow
And harder take it slow
Time is a teacher and each of us
It's still learning as we go
I ain't saying I'm broken
But there's still sides we're both ain't showing
And it's easy to fall in a last call neon glow
So tell me, will you

[Chorus]
Love me, love me, love me, love me
Love me with the lights on
Love me, love me, love me, love me
Love me with the lights on
Will we still be dancing in the morning?
Or waking up alone?
Are you gonna love me, love me, love me, love me
Love me with the lights on

[Bridge]
Life is gonna bring moments we're not at our best
All that I'm asking is for you to be honest
And tell me, will you

[Chorus]
Love me, love me, love me, love me
Love me with the lights on
Love me, love me, love me, love me
Love me with the lights on
Will we still be dancing in the morning?
Or waking up alone?
Are you gonna love me, love me, love me, love me
Love me with the lights on
love me, love me, love me, love me
love me, love me, love me, love me
love me, love me, love me, love me
Love me with the lights on

COLDER BEER
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
Seems like nothing's ever good enough for you
If I bought you a house with a front porch swing then you'd want two
There ain't a diamond big enough to make you smile
Tell me am I worth your while
It seems like nothing's ever good enough for you

[Chorus]
If I were a jacked up Ford you'd trade me for a Chevrolet
If I was the penthouse suite I couldn't keep you high enough to stay
If I were the last Bud Light in a bucket of ice
In the desert I bet I'd hear you complaining
Saying you're still waiting
For colder beer
A colder beer

[Verse 2]
I bet you're running your mouth to your so-called friends
How that dinner wasn't worth all the money that I spent
How the champagne wasn't fine enough and oh you got is so tough
I bet you're running your mouth to your so-called friends

BOURBON WITH A SUNSET

Lyrics
BOURBON WITH A SUNSET
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
I still remember it was September
And that late day sun was kissing your face
We had a handle of Jack Daniels
Or maybe it was Buffalo Trace
Me and you we had a few
And I knew one thing for sure
We were both a little too drunk to drive
So we sat back in them Adirondack chairs
And watched that sun strike a match to the sky

[Chorus]
Thats when I asked you
What’cha doing for the rest of your life
If you ain’t careful with me girl then
I just might be that kinda guy
Who tries to make you his wife
When I look back on that moment
There ain’t a single thing I regret
Every word was the truth
You and me are the proof of what you get
When you mix bourbon with a sunset

[Verse 2]
You’ve got a memory as good as any
That’s one thing I’ve always loved about you
But your mistake is we drank Makers
And I think we had more than a few
Well, either way that was a day
That I will never forget
Girl, you really looked so surprised
When we sat back in them Adirondack chairs
I took a sip as I looked into your eyes

[Chorus]
Thats when I asked you
What’cha doing for the rest of your life
If you ain’t careful with me girl then
I just might be that kinda guy
Who tries to make you his wife
When I look back on that moment
There ain’t a single thing I regret
Every word was the truth
You and me are the proof of what you get
When you mix bourbon with a sunset

PROUD OF THAT

Plays: 1
Backstory
I wrote this specifically for the Quick Pitch for Cody Johnson.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Round here it's family first and
Every Sunday get to church and pray
I love them ways

[Verse 2]
Neighbors helping neighbors
Nobody's counting favors
Saints in their own way

[Pre Chorus]
It's an honor to call this my home
I'm not bragging, but if you wanna know

[Chorus]
It's the red blood running through these veins
The pounding heart it runs to the pride in this last name
Faded white T-shirt from years of blue-collar work that'll break your back
Yeah, that's the red, white, and blue I was raised on and I'm proud of that

[Verse 3]
Stand up for what's right and
We fight the good fight, put trust in God and love

[Verse 4]
Salute the ones we've lost, the ones that died for a cause
'Cause they fought for us

[Pre Chorus]
I know this freedom didn't come for free
And that's a value that's been instilled in me

[Chorus]
Like this red blood running through these veins
The pounding heart it runs to the pride in this last name
Faded white T-shirt from years of blue-collar work that'll break your back
Yeah, that's the red, white, and blue I was raised on and I'm proud of that

[Instrumental]

[Chorus]
It's the red blood running through these veins
The pounding heart it runs to the pride in this last name
Faded white T-shirt from all that blue-collar work that'll break your back
Yeah, that's the red, white, and blue I was raised on
And it's God's honest truth, I ain't changing and I'm proud of that

[Outro]
I'm proud of that

Lyrics
sexy little thing
Written by: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
I could swear on a bible
When you walked by
I felt a change in the air
Like the temperature was rising
A smile like that
Under a cowgirl hat

[Verse 2]
Baby you remind me
Of an old adage
Saying good things come
In a small package
It’s gotta be true
Yeah but they never seen nothin' like you

[Chorus]
You sexy little thing
Let me order you a drink
Can I get your number
Watch cha doing for the summer
Do you wanna spend it with me
I’ll take ya skinny dipping
Well make some bad decisions
Be my partner in crime
Stealing that sunshine
Tell me what you think
You sexy little thing
You sexy little thing

[Verse 3]
You could break a man’s heart
Without breaking a sweat
And man, I’m afraid
I might lose that bet
What you doin' to me
Don’t you go and ruin me

[Chorus]
You sexy little thing
Let me order you a drink
Tell me what's your number
Watch you doing for the summer
Do you wanna spend it with me
I’ll take ya skinny dipping
Well make some bad decisions
You’ll be my partner in crime
Stealing that sunshine
Tell me what you think
You sexy little thing

[Instrumental]

[Bridge]
I know a margarita bar
We can take it too far
See what the night might bring
Only thing I gotta know
Before we go
Do you take salt or sugar on your rim

[Chorus]
You sexy little thing
Let me order you a drink
I couldn't help but wonder
Watch cha doing for the summer
Do you wanna spend it with me
Oh, I’ll take ya skinny dipping
Well make some bad decisions
You’ll be my partner in crime
Stealing that sunshine
Tell me what you think
You sexy little thing
You sexy little thing
Mmmm

Lyrics
GOOD TEQUILA
Writer: Izzy Malek

[Verse 1]
You know that picture of us
We took in Mexico
In my white linen shirt
That you bought me
I love the way you’re looking at me
Like I’m the only one you could see
I wanna take you back
To that little beachfront hotel
We’ll bring some close friends and family
And a couple of vows
I’ve never been so sure
Of anything before

[Chorus]
I can’t get enough
Your love is like good tequila
I wanna bottle it up
Label it a hundred proof
Who needs the rest
Once you’ve had the best
Only the best will do
I can’t get enough
Your love is like good tequila
It’s so easy getting drunk on you

[Verse 2]
I want you all to myself
Wanna taste every kiss
Each one that you plant on these lips
Mixed with that salty air
Leaving me so impaired
There’s a slow-burning warmth
I can feel in your touch
My troubles and worries
They fade like that crayon colored sunset does
You know you got me buzzed

[Chorus]
I can’t get enough
Your love is like good tequila
I wanna bottle it up
Label it a hundred proof
Who needs the rest
Once you’ve had the best
Only the best will do
I can’t get enough
Your love is like good tequila
It’s so easy getting drunk on you

Lyrics
JUST LIKE A DAM

[Verse 1]
I would give up anything
To be 21 with you again
And see you dancing drunk to a cover band
With your beer up high

[Verse 2]
Sometimes I’m good for days
And other times it comes in waves
It’s like a flood I can't escape
No matter how I try
And I still try

[Chorus]
But damn, I miss you bad today
If you were here you’d probably say
Just trust that God has got a bigger plan
And I didn’t know how hard it’d be
And damn, you’d probably laugh at me
But I’m holding back these tears the best I can
Just like a dam

[Verse 3]
I wish you could’ve met my kids
Man, they would’ve loved you like I did
When they ask about the friend I’m with
In them photographs
Man, I go back

[Chorus]
But damn, I miss you bad today
If you were here you’d probably say
Just trust that God has got a bigger plan
And I didn’t know how hard it’d be
And damn, you’d probably laugh at me
But I’m holding back these tears the best I can
Just like a dam
Just like a dam

[Bridge]
Been a minute since you’ve been gone
But these memories keep me hanging on
There’s times I feel your presence is so strong
Just like a dam
Strong like a dam
Damn, just like a…

MY TEQUILA

Plays: 7
Lyrics
[Verse]
Baby, what’s your name?
Tell me where you from
Is that an open barstool next to you
Or did you come here with someone?

[Verse]
We could be sippin’ on margaritas
Talking sweet but wouldn’t it be sweeter
If you’d come over into my direction
And we could fast forward this love connection

[Chorus]
My tequila thinks you’re sexy
My tequila thinks you’re sexy
It’s keeps telling me that I
Should ask if you’d like to
Spend some time with us tonight
It’s always trying to get me
In trouble everytime
My tequila thinks you’re sexy
And I think my tequila is right

[Verse]
I kinda like this band
Do you wanna dance
We can get it on til the break of dawn
If you ain’t got no plans
Don’t get it wrong
I ain’t asking for myself
I’m just asking for my friend there on the shelf

[Chorus]
My tequila thinks you’re sexy
Keeps telling me that I
Should ask if you if you’d like to
Spend some time with us tonight
It’s always trying to get me
In trouble everytime
My tequila thinks you’re sexy
And I think my tequila is right

[Instrumental]

[Chorus]

TO YOU

Plays: 0
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I step off the plane
A thousand miles away
I thought I needed change
I guess you could say
When I was lost at sea
My compass pointed me
Through the wind and rain
And now I'm home again

[Chorus]
And I would never leave this place
If I'd had known I'd miss your face
So much
So bad
So, I had to come back to you
Oh oh
Oh oh
To you
Oh oh
Oh oh

[Verse 2]
And as I count the days
I watched the sun exchange
Glances with the moon
Just like we used to do
When you were mine
And we were free
And isn't that the way it should be?

[Chorus]
And I would never leave this place
If I'd had known I'd miss your face
So much
So bad
So, I had to come back to you
Oh oh
Oh oh

[Verse 3]
Stars shoot to the streets below
My heart beats, my blood flows
Cold when I'm away from you
Ooh

[Verse 4]
So pull me next to you
Up against your skin
Tell me that you're mine
And we are free again

[Chorus]
And I would never leave this place
If I'd had known I'd miss your face
So much
So bad
So, I had to come back to you
Oh oh
Oh oh
To you
Oh oh
Oh oh
To you
Oh oh
To you

GOTTA START SOMEWHERE

Plays: 0
Lyrics
[End of Chorus]
Every good time’s gotta start somewhere

[Verse 1]
Walked in to Dukes
With nothin’ but time to waste
Ordered up a margarita
Put my feet up
And pretty soon you’d be sittin’ down next to me
I never seen it coming
Before them last call lights
We turning into something

[Chorus]
And it started with a straw
Then ya put it in a drink
And then you stir it up
Let all your problems sink
To the bottom of the ocean
Watch ‘em disappear
Every good time’s gotta start somewhere

[Verse 2]
Do you remember that night
When all the lights went out
So we lit a bunch of candles
And man did that handle of Jack do us right
Funny how an evening
Can take a turn so quick
And stop a girl from leaving

[Chorus]
And it started with a straw
Then you put it in a drink
And then we stir it up
Let our problems sink
To the bottom of the ocean
Watch ‘em disappear
Every good time’s gotta start somewhere

[Bridge]
It could be a stay at home Sunday night
You and me
Or a getaway weekend down in the Keys
Best part is that you'll never know what's in store

[Chorus]
Until you start with a straw
And you put it in a drink
And then we stir it up
And let our problems sink
To the bottom of the ocean
Watch 'em disappear
Every good time’s gotta start with a straw
Then ya put it in a drink
And then we stir it up
And we do it again and again and again
Suddenly our problems
Seem to disappear
Every good time’s gotta start somewhere
Every good time’s gotta start somewhere
