SWING AND A MISS

Plays: 8
Backstory
We wanted to write a song about how baseball can teach you alot about life.
Lyrics
v
I was never the first one picked
Spent a lot of time on the pine
But when it was my turn to hit
I thought the same thing every time

chprus
I gotta swing the bat if I’m gonna get a hit
Step up to the plate wait for my pitch
I remember the day my daddy told me this
Son nothing worthwhile comes without risk
In life don’t ever doubt
three strikes don’t make you out
So don’t be afraid of a swing and a miss

v
There’s a blonde at every game
Her smiles, all I see in the crowd
I don’t think she even knows my name
Win or lose I’m going to ask her out.
Cause I gotta swing the bat if I’m gonna get a hit
Win or lose I’m going to ask her out.

chorus
Cause I gotta swing the bat if I’m gonna get a hit
Step up to the plate wait for my pitch
I remember the day my daddy told me this
Son, nothing worthwhile ever comes without risk
In life don’t ever doubt
three strikes don’t make you out
So don’t be afraid of a swing and a miss

bridge
When I went to ask her she winked at me and told me no
But you should ask my friend I know she'd love to go'
She threw me a curveball but I know...

chorus
But I gotta swing the bat if I’m gonna get a hit
Step up to the plate wait for my pitch
I remember the day my daddy told me this
So nothing worthwhile comes without risk
In life don’t ever doubt
three strikes don’t make you out
So don’t be afraid of a swing and a miss

tag
No, I’m not afraid of a swing and a miss

Smile at a Stranger Today

Plays: 2
Backstory
I have been working on this for a while and got some great feedback from sessions. I wanted to write a song about kindness at a time when so many need to hear it.
Lyrics
The hostess at the restaurant
Was having a bad day
She’s probably expecting me
To complain about the wait

In a world of negativity
Kindness is a choice
So I’ll just stand here patiently
Instead of raise my voice

I’ll just
Smile at a stranger, today
Kindness is like a beautiful sunrise
It warms the heart its own special way
And you get back more than you leave behind

The agent for the airline
Said my flights delayed tonite
It may not make a difference
But I said it’s all right

I just

Smile at a stranger, today
Kindness is like a beautiful sunrise
It warms the heart its own special way
And you get back more than you leave behind

I can always find a reason to be kind
And I got enough smiles to give you one of
Mine

So I’ll just
Smile at a stranger, today
Kindness is like a beautiful sunrise
It warms the heart its own special way
And you get back more than you leave behind

Won’t you
Smile at a stranger, today
Kindness is like a beautiful sunrise
It warms the heart its own special way
And you get back more than you leave behind

Good Things Happen
(Kayanek/Steffen)

v
Life is full of surprises

Each day when the sun rises
I think this time around

pre-chorus
For all that tomorrow might bring
Nothing stands in my way
My faith guides me to the King
I, find peace when I pray

chorus
Good things happen when you trust in Jesus
Good things happen when you trust in God
He will be your power, in your darkest hour
Put you faith in Christ the Lord
Good things happen

v
God rules over all nations
Anyone who follows Christ
Will be a new creation
His Son was sacrificed

repeat chorus

bridge
His promise is renewed each spring
Challenges come and they go
It's easy to do the right thing
The Lord. He lets you know

One More

Plays: 1
Lyrics
One More
(Music and Lyrics by Ray Allen Kayanek)

We know all the words to jingle bells
Silent night says it s well
know it came upon a midnight clear
yet we forget eleven months a year

we need one more Christmas song
we can sing the whole year long
the keep that feeling with us every day
one more Christmas song
that lives on when the tree is gone
all the decorations put away
to keep that Christmas spirit going strong
we need one more Christmas song

the spirit that the season brings
the message of the songs we sing
does it really have to go away
by the time that we reach New Year's Day

repeat chorus

for a season it seems loud and clear
there's no reason it can't last all year
if we try that is why

repeat chorus

I AM

Plays: 3
Backstory
This song references the seven places in the Bible where Jesus says I Am.
Lyrics
verse 1
So many times I've gone astray
Like a ship that's lost at sea
I've forgotten how to pray
So paralyzed with agony

verse 2
The Lord called out to me
But I was not listening
I was sick with apathy
Softly, He was whispering

Pre-chorus 1
Come home to God, follow Me

Chorus
I am the way, the truth, the life
I am the light of the world
I am the door, I am the vine
I am the good shepherd, the bread of life
I am the resurrection and the life
I am

verse 3
His hope was my salvation
He said I am who I am
Those words of proclamation
Led me to become Christ's lamb

Pre-chorus 2
HIs words rang true, loud and clear

Repeat Chorus

Outro
His Word is the only way
He is the Great I Am
His Word is the only way
He is the Great I Am
The Great I Am
He is the Great I Am

WHEN NATURE LENDS A HAND

Plays: 13
Backstory
wrote this with Kurt Johnston
Lyrics
When Nature Lends a Hand
(Kayanek/Johnston)

A little bit of privacy in a crowded land
uncivilized, unblemished and unbroken
Mother Nature smiles as a woman and a man
communicate though not a word is spoken

It doesn't take words
It takes the right touch
to show someone you love them
show them just how much

There's nothing like making love
by a cool mountain stream
nothing like making love
by the light of moonbeam
sharing every feeling
where the ocean meets the sand
oh there's nothing quite like making love
when nature lends a hand

Knowing I'm a part of her and she's a part of me
a harmony designed to last forever
a feeling that's so natural as it was meant to be
the glue that binds a man and wife together

It doesn't take words
It takes the right touch
to show someone you love them
show them just how much

There's nothing like making love
by a cool mountain stream
nothing like making love
by the light of moonbeam
sharing every feeling
where the ocean meets the sand
oh there's nothing quite like making love
when nature lends a hand

Everything about the mood is right
as the water sparkles in the sunlight
the treetops gently sway up above
nature's gentle symphony of love

There's nothing like making love
by a cool mountain stream
nothing like making love
by the light of moonbeam
sharing every feeling
where the ocean meets the sand
oh there's nothing quite like making love
when nature lends a hand

A MAN OF HIS WORD DEMO

Plays: 1
Backstory
We wanted to write a song about a mentor and we chose to make him a grandpa and use the double meaning of the hook.
Lyrics
Grandpa never broke a promise to this little boy
once he went to seven stores to find my favorite toy
every basketball game in that hot and humid gym
five rows up behind the bench, you could count on him

I agreed to help him pull weeds from his garden
but I went to play ball and forgot all about him
he said when you make a deal and give someone your word
our faith helps us know what a promise is worth

grandpa taught the ten commandments, lived the golden rule
how to turn the other cheek when your neighbor's cruel
John three sixteen and what it means, now I know for sure
Grandpa helped me be, a man of his word

he taught me to apologize whenever I was wrong
failing ain't failing if I get back up strong
always tell the truth cause when you tell someone a lie
it's never quite the same when you look them in the eye

grandpa taught the ten commandments, lived the golden rule
how to turn the other cheek when your neighbor's cruel
John three sixteen and what it means, now I know for sure
Grandpa helped me be, a man of his word

when heaven called him home the funeral home overflowed
they lined up to talk about the friend they'd all known
when I hold Grandpa's Bible I know he's there with me
Lord, thank you for the man who helped me see

grandpa taught the ten commandments, lived the golden rule
how to turn the other cheek when your neighbor's cruel
John three sixteen and what it means, now I know for sure
Grandpa helped me be, a man of his word

MORE BEAUTIFUL

Plays: 5
Backstory
I wrote this song for my wife of 25 years for our anniversary.
Lyrics
More Beautiful

(Kayanek/Johnston)

Up Sangre De Cristo
the chairlift slowly goes
diamonds sparkle everywhere
in the sunlit snow below
nature's brush can paint so beautifully
there's a masterpiece right here next to me
c
nothing is more beautiful than you
the sunlight that's within you shines through
your eyes reveal a heart aglow with love so pure and true
nothing is more beautiful than you

on sliding sands of Sanibel
as the waves caress my toes
a crimson ball of sunset slips
into a turquoise bath below
nature's brush can paint so beautifully
there's a masterpiece right here next to me

nothing is more beautiful than you
the sunlight that's within you shines through
your eyes reveal a heart aglow with love so pure and true
nothing is more beautiful than you

diamonds rubies and pearls
can not compare with my beautiful girl

nothing is more beautiful than you
the sunlight that's within you shines through
your eyes reveal a heart aglow with love so pure and true
nothing is more beautiful than you

Hollow

Plays: 1
Backstory
I wrote this because I once had that empty feeling inside before I came to know Jesus and I want others to know.
Lyrics
If you want to hide from God
Church is a great place
Just sing along to the worship songs
Make sure your tithes are paid
So everyone will see
Your Christianity
But somethings missing in your life
Something makes you feel

Hollow, hollow
You pretend, cover up your sorrow
Hollow hollow
Life can be a bitter pill to swallow
You can replace that empty space
With unconditional love and amazing grace
You won’t have to feel so hollow

It’s hard to see what lies
Deep within your heart
A smile can hide the pain inside
Til it all falls apart
The hurt controlling you
Tucked safely out of view
A lonely face lost in a crowd
You are stumbling through

Hollow, hollow
You pretend to cover up your sorrow
Hollow hollow
Life can be a bitter pill to swallow
You can replace that empty space
With unconditional love and amazing grace
You won’t have to feel so hollow

Let love chase the emptiness away
Don’t go through another day (feeling)

Hollow hollow
You pretend to cover up your sorrow
Hollow hollow
Life can be a bitter pill to swallow
You can replace that empty space
With unconditional love and amazing grace
You won’t have to feel so hollow

You don’t have to feel so hollow

LITTLE BIT OF MONEY

Plays: 0
Backstory
I overheard someone say the set up line and the hook and the song grew from there.
Lyrics
Forty hours can seem like forty years
Counting down until Saturday gets here
Best part of Friday is quitting time
For a couple days I leave work behind

Got a little bit of money in the bank
an F150 with a full gas tank
Couple of rods, bucket of bait
All my buddies are on the way
Got a little bit of time on my hands
Yeti full of beers with a girl on the can
Not gonna rain it’s bright and sunny
You can buy a Whole lotta life
With a little bit of money

If i didn’t have to work all week
It wouldn’t mean as much to me
All that hard work gives me the right
To kick the party off Friday night

Got a little bit of money in the bank
an F150 with a full gas tank
Couple of rods, bucket of bait
All my buddies are on the way
Got a little bit of time on my hands
Yeti full of beers with a girl on the can
Not gonna rain it’s bright and sunny
You can buy a Whole lotta life
With a little bit of money

Some say the best things
in life are free
But just to be safe
I’m still bringing cash with me

Got a little bit of money in the bank
an F150 with a full gas tank
Couple of rods, bucket of bait
All my buddies are on the way
Got a little bit of time on my hands
Yeti full of beers with a girl on the can
Not gonna rain it’s bright and sunny
You can buy a whole lotta life
With s little bit of money

FIND A BEACH

Plays: 2
Backstory
When life gets to me I find the nearest beach. I live in Florida so fortunately I don't have far to go. This is a re-write.
Lyrics
V1
Put a chair in the water, sand in my toes
Lather the sunscreen on my cheeks, my nose
Leave my worries behind me, cares of the day
Rely on the ocean to wash them all away

Pre-Chorus 1
Anytime life, gets the best of me
Or I'm confused, need some clarity

Chorus

I find a beach
find a beach
a refuge my problems can"t reach
I find a beach
I find a beach
when I need the sun to shine
I find a beach

V2
Hear the waves roll in, sun on my face
I bet heaven is, like this place
Sit and just listen to, the surf symphony
Mother nature provides, the perfect therapy

One deep breath of, salty ocean air
Always helps me, forget all my cares

Repeat chorus

GOD LOVES SOUTHERN ROCK AND ROLL

Plays: 3
Backstory
I was at a funeral for a friend/bandmate who played in a prominent Southern rock band and we were lamenting over how many of our musical friends were gone and I said maybe God just loves Southern Rock and an idea was born.
Lyrics
God Loves Southern Rock and Roll
(Ray Allen Kayanek, Walter Alexander Kulwicki)

In Heaven there's a hell house, where the Skynyrd boys now jam
I know a little about Curtis Lowe, I'm a simple kind of man
Sweet home Alabama, little girl what's your name
Tuesday's gone, right or wrong this free bird you can't change

Straight through the pearly gates, turn right on Golden street
The South side of Heaven, backstage is where they meet
As you listen to the music it'll soothe your Southern soul
Discover what the angels already know
God loves southern rock and roll

in heaven there's a big house where the brothers can be found
Jessica ain't wasting time on a ramblin' man southbound
Melissa done somebody wrong but it's not my cross to bear
In memory of Elizabeth Reed catch the midnight rider there

repeat chorus

if I leave here tomorrow, don't feel the need to cry
it's my ticket to see an all star band, God assembled in the sky

repeat chorus twice

MY OWN MAGGIE MAE

Plays: 80
Backstory
Maggie Mae was a timeless song about first love and it has one of the most recognizable mandolin parts there is. I got the idea that hearing a mandolin reminds me of my first love.
Lyrics
My Own Maggie Mae
(Music and lyrics by Ray Allen Kayanek)

v
Margaret was her name
I called her Maggie just the same
the year we brought to life her favorite song
she sang a bit off key
but it was magical to me
with all my heart and soul I sang along

when it came to her I couldn't get enough
she was and always will be my first love

Every time I hear a mandolin play
I think of the way
that she looked just laying there
that late September day
Every time I hear those sweet sweet sounds
wish she was still around
don't know why I let her get away
my own Maggie Mae

I'm not even sure if she
even would remember me
the time we shared so many years ago
when the jasmine are in bloom'
I can still smell her perfume
there's a part of me that she just won't let go

when it came to her thought I'd had enough
didn't understand the power of first love

Every time I hear a mandolin play
I think of the way
that she looked just laying there
that late September day
Every time I hear those sweet sweet sounds
wish she was still around
don't know why I let her get away
my own Maggie Mae

we've been apart more years than I remember
but in my heart we've always been together

Every time I hear a mandolin play
I think of the way
that she looked just laying there
that late September day
Every time I hear those sweet sweet sounds
wish she was still around
don't know why I let her get away
my own Maggie Mae

TOMORROW DEPENDS

Plays: 1
Backstory
I wanted write a song that reminded us that everything we do shapes our future.
Lyrics
Tomorrow Depends
(Kayanek)

Brother Martin had a dream
impossible as it might seem
he never saw with his own eyes
the day his dream was realized
hopeless as it seemed to be
at every opportunity
he shared that dream so I could see
his dream depended upon me

(C)
tomorrow depends on today
the future is our resume
together we must find a way
to make a better tomorrow today

our weather doesn't seem the same
tsunamis and hurricanes
global warming acid rain
is the way we live to blame
that's the message we now hear
the price of progress isn't clear
is this the blessing it appears
or will it cause tomorrow's tears

repeat chorus

live for today is the message we've all heard
who is gonna pay for the charges we've incurred
all the comforts of this world there's a price to pay
to build a better tomorrow we must build a better today

repeat chorus

let's make tomorrow a better today

Lyrics
Time Machine
(Kayanek)

V1
When a song comes on the radio
Sherman sets the wayback machine
While you're listening before you know it
You find yourself re-living history

Hearing The Boss for the first time again
at The Pony on the Jersey Shore
Drinking your last beer with your childhood best friend
The night before he went off to war

Chorus

Close your eyes and go back, take a trip through time and space
Til' you're in that magic moment where the memory took place
Hold on tight with all your might as you re-live your history
A certain song comes along it's like you step into a time machine

V2

Back in the boat with your brother and your dad
As he sang along with Trace on "Just Fishin'"
Or with your first love on a blanket in the sand
As^NYSNC puts her in the mood for kissing

First time you ever danced with your wife
As Tracy sang "Keeper of the Stars"
For all those magic moments in your life
There's a song that knows right where they are

Repeat Chorus

Bridge
Memories aren't meant to last a lifetime
Sometimes they fade away 'til they are gone
You've got a tresure chest of memories in your mind
You can only unlock with a song

Backstory
Got the idea for this song while traveling from Michigan to Florida to see a certain young lady.
Lyrics
Florida Girl
(Music and Lyrics by Ray Allen Kayanek)

Been around this great big land of ours
in almost every honky tonk and bar
met girls of every shape and size
one of them helped me to realize
she was so much more
than just another date
I gave away my heart
in the sunshine state

I'm on my way to F-L-A gonna have lots of fun
On my way to F-L-A gonna tell everyone
All across the U-S-A and all over the world
On my way to F-L-A
for my little Florida girl

One by one the mile markers are gone
Georgia just goes on and on and on
I'm so anxious I can hardly wait
so excited that I can't see straight
for there's a special girl
who is expecting me
not gonna let her down
she means too much to me

DON'T FORGET TO THANK A VET

Plays: 0
Backstory
I wrote this for an Alabama pitch fifteen years ago - I just saw them in concert a couple weeks ago (Less Jeff...RIP) and they spent a lot of time talking patriotism and respecting the flag and even had an opening video presentation that ended with the Star Spangled Banner. So I was reminded of this song and feel like it would suit them both thematically and musically even though the lyrics on the second verse are dated.
Lyrics
Don't Forget to Thank a Vet
(Kayanek)

(spoken)
Daddy what's a veteran my little boy asked me
As he watched the floats go by in all their majesty
I had to think about it, didn't answer right away
Son it means a lot of things so I'll put this way

Chorus

Don't forget to thank a vet, for the very freedom you enjoy today
They freely fought, their bloodshed bought, us the liberty to live our lives this way
For those who gave their lives, we never must forget, the sacrifice they made for one and all,
Don't forget to thank a vet

Grandpa was a veteran who fought in Germany
Daddy went to Vietnam in 1970
Now your brother Davey tours Afghanistan
Fighting for you future as bravely as he can

Repeat Chorus

bridge

Every American should know
Veteran's just another word for hero

Lyrics
Believe
(Music and lyrics by Ray Allen Kayanek)

Some people spend all year searching for the perfect gift
for that special someone in their lives
Others shop at the last minute fighting through the crowds
hoping they get done by Christmas time
from the time we're little children we believe
let's not outgrow what Christmas really means

I believe in Santa Claus for I know he's real
through each and every one of us his magic is revealed
I believe that Jesus came down from heaven above
as we celebrate His birth we celebrate in love.

some people try to say that the Christmas holidays
become more commercial every year
others say it's still the same Christmas hasn't changed
the message still rings through loud and clear
from the time we're little children we believe
let's not outgrow what Christmas really means

repeat chorus

I believe that every child should smile on Christmas Day
we can't let them go without that's not the Christmas way

Sawdust

Plays: 0
Backstory
After losing both my parents and having to clean out their homes, etc. I found myself in the bittersweet position of remembering the fond times and not wanting to accept the finality of them being gone.
Lyrics
V1
Told mom I’d clean out her garage
So she could park her Focus inside
It had turned into a place for storage
Since last April when my father died

I’m immersed in a flood of memories
Of all I learned inside these walls
Dad on his craftsman table saw
as I watched the sawdust fall

Pre-chorus 1
It didn’t really matter what we built
what mattered was the way I always felt

Chorus 1
Sweeping up sawdust, in a cloud of memories
When I finished building with my dad, my job was
Sweeping up sawdust, always did my part
Still a little sawdust ended up, in the corners of my heart

V2
Mom wanted me to take home
In the U-Haul she had me rent
Shovels. Rakes and garden hoes
Dad’s toolbox and work bench

one at a time we loaded
his workshop not that truck bed
When I finally moved the table saw
There was sawdust under it

Pre- chorus 2
AS I fought to hold back the tears
Once again like I’d done for all those years (I was)

Chorus 2
Sweeping up sawdust, in a cloud of memories
I was finished building with my dad, but it’s still my job
Sweeping up sawdust, I still did my part
Once again a little sawdust ended up
In the corners of my heart.

Bridge
Had a workshop like my dad, when that day was done
When my baby boy gets older, I am going to teach my son (about)

Chorus 3
Sweeping up sawdust, we’ll make new memories
When we finish building something, it’ll be his job
Sweeping up sawdust, hope he loves his part
So a little bit of sawdust will end up
In the corners of his heart

Tennessee Whiskey
(Music and lyrics by Ray Allen Kayanek)
v
It was a Knoxville Friday night
much to my delight
the blonde across the bar

I got up to take a chance
ask her for a dance
til I remembered my wife
was sitting next to me

sometimes I should really stop and think
instead I'll just grab another drink
c
Cheap Tennessee whiskey
it's got a hold on me
It's a guarantee
I'll drink too much
might be killing myself
ain't hurting no one else
at least that's the lie
I keep telling myself

v
our anniversary just got worse
think I'm gonna need a hearse
can't recall how many
years it's been
she put me to the test
so I had to take a guess
damn I wish she'd
let me guess again

sometimes I should really stop and think
instead I'll just grab another drink

Daddy's Arms

Plays: 0
Backstory
I read a story of a mother in Nicaragua who just simply wanted to keep her kids safe and reunite her family.
Lyrics
In a tin roof shack in Managua
Hidden by Mahogany trees
A mother prepares her children
For a 2000 mile journey

She knows they don't understand
Why they must leave their friends behind
It's the only way she knows to save them
That's all that's on her mind

They live every day in fear
At the whims of the cartel
They've turned what once was heaven
Into seven kinds of hell

(She says) Your daddy works in Texas
In a place called Abilene
We'll keep on traveling 'til we get there
Reunite our family

chorus

We 're gonna walk until we can't walk any more
We'll be tired, we'll be hungry, we'll be sore
'Til we're so close to the flag of freedom
We can count all fifty stars
We won't stop until you're in your daddy's arms

They followed the long road
Crossing bridges where they could
Determined they could make it
Like momma said they would

When the day finally came
They reached the Camargo Bridge
Momma asked for asylum
As she looked down at her two kids

Repeat Chorus

They put us in a cage
With a kinder name
Kept us there for months
While they reviewed our case
We are safe from the cartels
But not what I call free
If we ever get out of here
We're going to Abilene

                        Repeat Chorus

We Won't stop until you're in your daddy's arms

EVERYTHING

Plays: 3
Backstory
I wrote this after talking to a friend who lost his house in a Hurricane with no insurance. As I was attempting to console him he said he was fine - he still had his faith and his family and that was all he really needed.
Lyrics
Everything
(Kayanek)

He'd weathered many hurricanes so this was just one more
Plywood on the windows stock up at the store
When ordered off the island he didn't leave at first
But he knew it was time to go when the storm got worse
A voice in his heart told him to evacuate
So he packed up the family and said a prayer the day

chorus
He lost everything but his faith
The house that he grew up in completely washed away
A lifetime of possessions in a pile of memories
He lost everything but what he really needs

The riverbank his house sat on's seen heavy rain before
Stack some extra sandbags to bolster up the shore
Ignoring the flood warnings cuz' he thought he had control
But as the waters quickly rose he knew he had to go
A voice in his heart told him to evacuate
So he packed up the family and said a prayer the day

repeat chorus

He's gonna miss that house and all the things he loved inside
But the only thing that matters is that his family's still alive

repeat chorus

He lost everything but faith and family
He lost everything but he's still got what he needs

Had a pocket full of presidents
Lot's of dollars but no sense
Found a way to spend every single bill
Knew I should make them last
But they disappeared faster
Than a cold beer in my hand will
After I cashed  that paycheck
Makin' it last til the next
Was kind of like swimming uphill
So I'd find a way to treat myself
Not worry about nothing else
Man I wish I had that money still

v

Now I work forty hours a week
In a factory by that little cafe
Got a wife and kids to feed
Bills and a mortgage to pay

Got a bonus check last payday
Had to be a computer glitch
Been a while since I felt this way
For the weekend I was rich

repeat chorus

Should've saved some for a rainy day
But I gotta tell ya
It was gone before it looked like rain
I still had my umbrella

Close Your Eyes (The Wonder of It All)

Plays: 0
Lyrics
Imaginary constellations
Beyond the Milky Way
Momentary, creations
Quickly fade away

Chorus
Close your eyes
Don't ask why
Hear the call
Of the wonder of it all

My galaxy, tapestry of hope
All these late night daydreams
A surreal kaleidescope
No one's ever seen

Anyone Else

Plays: 0
Backstory
I wrote this song after Robin Williams died.
Lyrics
Anyone Else
(Kayanek)

Everyone thinks I've got it made
they don't know my life's so disarrayed
in the mirror I stare at someone else
so I never have to face myself

I'm beginning to see I'd much rather be anyone else but me
I'm just fooling myself nobody else sees my misery
all the roles I play are simply a way to get through the day
I'm beginning to see I never will be anyone else but me

wish that I could peel away my skin
to reveal the suffering within
everyone would finally understand
I'm not happy like they think I am

I'm beginning to see I'd much rather be anyone else but me
I'm just fooling myself nobody else sees my misery
all the roles I play are simply a way to get through the day
I'm beginning to see I never will be anyone else but me

Living in the dark afraid to face the dawn
searching for a reason a reason to go on
my silent cries are only heard by me
I wish that someone someone would finally see

Will you finally see I'd much rather be anyone else but me
I'm just fooling myself nobody else sees my misery
all the roles I play are simply a way to get through the day
will you help me to see I don't want to be anyone else but me
will you help me to see I was not meant to be anyone else but me

I'll Never Forget the Cross

Plays: 2
Backstory
I got the idea for this while taking communion one Sunday and I went home and wrote it after church.
Lyrics
I'll Never Forget the Cross
(Kayanek)

Holding your brokenness between my fingertips
Feeling your pain and agony
Seeing your suffering as they punished you
when they should've punished me
unworthy of your sacrifice as you paid a price
you knew no one else could pay
tasting the mercy that gave away your life
so my sins could wash away

I'll never forget the cross
I'll never forget how you died
when you took my place that day
willing to be crucified
as I come to your table
humbly I say
I'll never forget the cross
where you died for me that day

holding the cup of wrath
thinking of the torment that you felt
wondering how much blood you had to shed for me
before my sins could wash away
knowing you could've called 10,000 angels to your aid
but you faced it on your own
for you knew that it was the only way
I would ever make it home

repeat chorus

so I'll cherish the Old Rugged Cross
til my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the Old Rugged Cross
and exchange it someday for a crown

Drinkin' with Lincoln
(Music and lyrics by Ray Allen Kayanek)
v
Well I'm going to the bank to get a pocketfull of presidents
Five hundred ninety five dollars and twenty seven cents
the teller just smiles and I don't have to speak
I get it the same way every week
I've got a plan for every bit of this money
c
five fifties go to tmy rent, two more for utilities
the twenties go to my wife, spending money she don't need
the tens go to my son, for lunch and a little bit of fun
as for the fives here's what I'm thinkin', I'm goin' drinkin' with Lincoln
v
well I don't have an I.R.A. or a 401 K
there's never much money left at the end of the day
before it's made my money's already spent
at least I can tell you where it went
allow me to explain myself again

Banner in the Sky

Plays: 0
Backstory
I wrote this for my friend Banner Thomas who recently passed away and was the original bass player for Jacksonville, FL based Molly Hatchett. Since the Skynyrd crew is also from Jax and since Banner was a friend to many of them I thought this might be a good fit for this pitch. I also used Derek Hess on drums for the demo who played drums for Gary Rossington's Rossington Collins Band, Barry Rapp on keys who married Theresa Gaines, Steve's widow and Barry Dunaway who is currently on the road with 38 Special and also from the area here and a friend of the band.
Lyrics
Banner in the Sky
(Kayanek)

thought you were kind of crazy when I first saw you on stage
time revealed a wise and gentle man
no stories truly over til' you turn that final page
wasn't ready for this one to end

every tear that I cry reminds me
stars belong in the sky

chorus
light up the sky old friend light up the sky
brighten up these southern stars tonight
light up the sky old friend light up the sky
there's a banner in the heavens tonight
so the world below will never lose your light

suddenly I woke up with a huge hole in my soul
you were so much more than just a friend
trying hard to understand why you had to go
I'm glad we rocked it right up to the end

every note that I play reminds me
we will reunite someday

repeat chorus

the west side laid it's claim to Skynyrd and their fame
but Arlington had stars to call their own
through the years the line up's changed players rearranged
Banner's back with Bruce, Duane and Danny Joe

Lyrics
Broken Things
(kayanek)

Mr. Lingo's picture window
that I hit the baseball through
momma's favorite Fenton vase
I knocked over when I was two
my candy apple red impala
that sat so long in my back yard
all together in one place
I know just where they are

If there's a heaven
for broken things
that's where you'll find my heart
my old guitar strings
soaring with angels'
on wounded wings
if there's a heaven
for broken things

my little league Louisville Slugger
that the home run snapped in two
the bike I rode til it fell apart
the way things you love can do
my brother's favorite model airplane
that I really thought could fly
all together in one place
now I know the reason why

repeat chorus

love can melt the hardest heart
turn around and tear your world apart

Come Dance with Me

Plays: 0
Backstory
I wrote this for my brother's wedding. I wanted to write a wedding song for two people that had previously been married.
Lyrics
Come Dance with Me
(Kayanek)

every night I bowed my head
said a prayer before bed
didn't ask for wealth or fame
my request was always the same
needed someone I could love
felt I'd waited long enough
though life tried to test my faith
knew it would be worth the wait

All my life I waited patiently
to find the one God made for me
In a moment it was crystal clear
the answer to my prayers was finally here
we share a love always meant to be
come dance with me for all eternity

had relationships before
they were missing something more
now a distant memory
the two of us is all I see
every sunrise brings a smile
hand in hand another mile
found the one the one I love
now that's all I'm thinking of

All my life I waited patiently
to find the one God made for me
In a moment it was crystal clear
the answer to my prayers was finally here
we share a love always meant to be
come dance with me for all eternity

always and forever
I'll be by your side
I'll treasure this moment
when you became my bride

All my life I waited patiently
to find the one God made for me
In a moment it was crystal clear
the answer to my prayers was finally here
we share a love always meant to be
come dance with me for all eternity

Momma;s
Lyrics
One More Gift to Open
Words and music by Ray Allen Kayanek
(Verse)
Christmas always has been
Mama's favorite time of year
Singing Christmas carols
barely loud enough to hear
carefully placing each ornament
right where it should be
as the whole family
gathers round the Christmas tree

(Chorus)
There's one more gift to open I don't know what's inside
My momma bought it for me just before she died.
As I hold it in my hands Momma's memory is so strong.
I'm afraid that if I open it this feeling will be gone

(Verse)
Momma loved Christmas
Momma loved her Lord
now she's in His presence
gone for her reward
she taught me right from wrong
about faith and family
now I'd give anything
to have Momma back with me

(Repeat Chorus)

(Bridge)
I'm not ready for Christmas to be over I'm not ready for momma to be gone.
I thought as long as I didn't open this last present. in my heart they'd both live on

there's one more gift to open
now the time is right
Momma would've wanted me
to find out what's inside

As I untie the ribbon as the paper tears
Inside I find a Bible and a note that says
Live the way I taught you son and I'll see you in Heaven
(whisper) Merry Christmas Momma

Backstory
We wrote this in 2008 but with COVID it unfortunately again hits home
Lyrics
Empty Stockings
(Kayanek/Besley)

Empty stockings all hung by the chimney with care
Children hoping that Santa Claus knows they are there
The mere mention of Christmas brings Momma to tears
It’s been such a difficult year

Christmas is a time for giving
Helping those who need a hand
Celebrate the life you’re living
Fill their empty stockings if you can

Momma works doubles trying to make extra tips
Daddy can’t find a job and he can’t get a grip
Now the holiday blues have displaced Christmas cheer
It’s been such a difficult year

Christmas is a time for giving
Helping those who need a hand
Celebrate the life you’re living
Fill their empty stockings if you can

You can make a difference in their lives
Help to make it better when you realize

Christmas is a time for giving
Helping those who need a hand
Celebrate the life you’re living
Lend a hand when you can

Lyrics
Here With Me (Kayanek)

v
Feel like I'm working a puzzle and I can't find the last piece
Want a perfect picture but this one's incomplete
So I try to make the most of what life's put in front of me
Close my eyes and call upon my favorite memories
chorus
Southern Living shows and the way your garden grows
Wild flowers that blossom along a winding mountain road
Cranberry glass vase or your grandson saying grace
The beauty you taught me to see will always keep you here with me

v
Feel like my world's just a picture that is now missing it's frame
No matter how much I pretend things just won't be the same
Knew that someday I would lose you when it was your time to leave
But I will never lose the love you left me in my memories

Repeat chorus

Bridge
Think of you when I'm out raking leaves or window shopping down on St. George Street
Or when I place the angel on the Christmas tree you left behind a lifetime of my favorite memories

BEHIND ENEMY LINES

Plays: 0
Backstory
My pastor did a sermon called behind enemy lines and I thought it was a different way of looking at evangelism.
Lyrics
v
The world in which we live is a battleground
Where the war of the ages is going down
The forces of good and evil engaged in fight
Both sides battling with all their might

pre-chorus 1
For what is at stake is the eternal destiny
of every prisoner trapped by sin
I must fight to set them free

chorus

I'm behind enemy lines
with a soul purpose in mind
to cut the chains that bind
all sins prisoners I can find
it's up to me to make them see
my God can set then free
take them safely to the other side
I can't leave any lost souls I find
behind enemy lines

v
my commander in chief has me fully armed
cloaked in his armor to keep me safe from harm
Bullets fly, gunshots ring and explosions start
But no bomb is strong enough to change the human heart

Wounded By a World
(Kayanek)

Bring your sick, your tired and your poor.
Bring your broken, your beaten and your torn.
Bring them all to The Throne of Grace.
To The One who knows just what they face.

Chorus
Wounded by a world that can be so unfair
Wounded by a world that doesn't seem to care
Bring them to The One who's already been there.
Wounded by a world with a Cross to bear.

Bring your aching, your lost and your downtrodden.
Let them know they are not forgotten
Bring them all to The Throne of Grace.
To The One who knows just what they face.

Wish We Could Go Fishin'
(Kayanek)

Dad worked on the assembly line
Making trucks for GMC
Pulled a lot of overtime
to provide for his family

Somehow he still found time
to teach a boy to fish
if I had a genie in a bottle
I would only need one wish

chorus
Wish we could go fishin' one more time
Just sit there in silence cast our lines
Though he never said a word
It's amazing what I heard
Wish we could go fishin' one more time

Got my degree from state
I moved far away
I realized too late
How the years had slipped away

ANIMAL INSTINCT

Plays: 0
Backstory
A song about young love.
Lyrics
I saw her sitting at the ice cream counter.,
she gave me that sideways glance.
Couldn't help but notice her,
thought I might have a chance.
At sixteen my mind was on watching girls,
so many shapes to enjoy
She set my teenage brain in a whirl,
spinning like a top or some toy.

pre chorus
Something about her made me look back
I could see that she had quite the rack.

chorus
She had me without even trying,
All I could do was follow her scent.
I couldn't hide it no I'm not lying.
Animal instinct, hunger hell bent.
Animal instinct, following animal instinct.

I wiped the drool from the side of my mouth,
and bolstered up my courage.
Usual lines would surely go south,
I still wanted to scratch that itch

repeat chorus

Dog on the prowl, sat down next to her
I could hardly say a word.
Sixteen, tongue tied and unsure
Animal instinct trapped and lured

outro
Caught in the snare of animal instinct

None of your excuses are ever gonna change that fact

Oh You turned something so beautiful to dust
Got caught up in the lacy dreams and lust
Yeah, I know all too well breaking up is hard to do
But it was so damn easy when it came to dumping you

WITHOUT GIRLS

Plays: 6
Backstory
I overheard someone say the hook in a grocery store
Lyrics
verse
Night out, without, girls just the boys
Making memories of the work week disappear
Soon we, wish we’d, made a better choice
Don’t take a genius to know what’s missing here

Chorus
It ain’t a beach without the sand
And every dance floor needs a band
It’s not a ladder without the rungs
What goods Cancun without the sun?
One thing I'm sure of in this world
it damn sure ain’t a, party without girls

Verse
We talk, football, all about our trucks
all those crazy high school memories
But in, the end, this idea sucks
It ain’t the same without female company

Repeat Chorus

It ain’t Nashville without country music
Or buffalo without the wings
Someone Call the girls

Lyrics
verse 1
My son's at the age, he likes to copy me
whenever I had my tools out, that's where he wanted to be
So, I got him a play set so he could work by my side
When he taps his little hammer, he swings it with pride

pre chorus
But now our times come to an end
His mom and I couldn't work it out
she's taken him back to South Bend
and I'm alone in this empty house

chorus
Mornings in his high chair
Pancakes shaped like Mickey
As I'd sip my coffee
He'd reach for his sippy
We'd play a game
to get him to eat his meal
it might not sound like much
but to me it was a big deal
As i sit here drinking coffee
still feeling messed up
didn't know how much i could
miss a sippy cup

verse 2
now I only get to see him, on a video call

he wants all my attention,
so I give him my smile
man , I sure do miss, my precious little child

LESSONS

Plays: 0
Lyrics
verse
I learned how to sail on a barstool
From a windburned old man of the sea
Conch fritters and a six pack of red stripe
Was the only thing it cost me

verse
From a napkin he hoisted a mainsail
a straw mast perched on a paper tray
Felt a salty ocean breeze on my face
As he said I’ll put it to you this way

chorus
Let the past be your lighthouse not your harbor
Spend more time on the bow than the stern
Before you drop anchor sail farther
In case the wind decides to turn
These are lessons every sailor must learn

verse
Mother ocean appreciates romance
And to be Shown the proper respect
Remember in one angry moment
She could Sweep you right off of the deck

How those sailing lessons
Work just as well on land

(verse)
It's mama's favorite season
'cause she loves to bake
Christmas gives her a reason
for all the goodies she'll make

(verse)
pumpkin, peach and apple pie
A Jesus birthday cake
Santa cookies all put a smile
on every grandchild's face

(chorus)
There's nothing like, Christmas time
to bring the whole family together
When those you love, are by your side
Christmas couldn't be any better

(verse)
we gather round the table
bow our heads and say grace
thank God we're all able
to break bread on this day

(chorus)
There's nothing like, Christmas time
to bring the whole family together
When those you love, are by your side
Christmas couldn't be any better

(bridge)
It's a season of unselfish love
as we embrace the joy of giving
our heartstrings feel a little tug
wondering what Santa will bring

(chorus)
There's nothing like, Christmas time
to bring the whole family together
When those you love, are by your side
Christmas couldn't be any better

(outro)
When those you love, are by your side
Christmas couldn't be any better

Monday

Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Must be Monday, picking up another load
Wet through Wednesday, made it as far as Winslow
Catchup Thursday hit the Cali line
Golden Gate on Friday in the nick of time
Sometimes life wears you out, but ain't that what it's all about?

[chorus]
Cause when Sunday ends, Monday starts all over again
Some weeks you got it, sometimes you gotta pretend
Work, sleep, wake, repeat, knock me down
Back up in the truck, let's go another round
What do you say? I gotta know it's gonna be okay
Monday

[verse 2]
Tests coming next week, another damned M.R.I.
She's been fighting a good fight since it told us last July
Kids' summer starts next week, but I'll be away
Hope she's got the strength to make Friday
Sometimes life will make you doubt, no time to be burned out

[repeat chorus]

[bridge]
Life's coming at you, you got no cards to play
You gotta find the courage to make it another day
Love the people you love, do what you gotta do, it's gonna be okay
Monday

[repeat chorus]

[Outro]
What do you say? I know it's gonna be okay

Raise That Trophy HIgh

Plays: 0
Backstory
We wanted to write a song that could be used in sports programming to celebrate championships, games, etc.
Lyrics
(verse 1)
Might want to step out of the way
Cause I'm telling you now, we came to play
One sad thing about keepin' score
whole worlds gonna know who wanted it more

(verse 2)
I'm calling it now, we're gonna win
You ain't gonna like the way this ends
Cheering fans will dance as air horns Tonight's the night we claim the crown

(chorus)
Gonna raise that trophy high in the air
Spray champagne, as the car horns blare
Grab our banners and wave em' high
Party in the street as the fireworks Like a heat seeking missile, filled with rage
"Til the echo of the whistle, puts us center stage
What's happening tonight really ain't fair
Gonna raise that trophy high in the air

(verse 3)
My new bling, will be so sweet
Head to the house if you can't stand the heat
Everyone knows how the story ends
Starting tonight our dynasty begins

(repeat chorus)

Gonna raise that trophy
Gonna raise that trophy
Gonna raise that trophy
Gonna raise that trophy
Gonna raise that trophy, high

(Bridge)
Wouldn't stand in the way of an oncoming flood
Cause, winning flows strong through our blood

FIND A BEACH (FEMALE)

Plays: 1
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Put a chair in the water, sand in my toes
Lather sun screen on my cheeks, my nose
Leave my worries behind, with cares of the day
Rely on the ocean to wash them all away
Anytime life gets the best of me or I'm confused
And need some clarity

[Chorus]
I find a beach, oh find a beach
A refuge my problems can't reach
I find a beach, oh find a beach
When I need the sun to shine
I find a beach

[Verse 2]
Hear the waves roll in, sun on my face
I bet heaven is like this place
Sit and just listen to the surf symphony
Mother nature provides the perfect therapy
One deep breath of salty ocean air always help me
Forget all my cares

[Repeat Chorus]

[Bridge]
magically my burdens disappear
When the ocean whispers in my ear

[Repeat Chorus]

AS LONG AS HE'S STILL HERE

Plays: 0
Backstory
tribute to grandfathers
Lyrics
verse
There’s a wealth of knowledge under that cowboy hat
Grandpa’s hands are scarred but still strong as a bear
He takes a few more breaks, but I'm okay with that
For as long as he’s still here

chorus
I know he’s not like he used to be
But I take care of him cause he cared for me
Man, I’ve got so many memories
All the good times we've shared as family
The calendar keeps turning
The candle keeps burning
Time travels faster than we do
It’s a short step from 21 to 82
I'll thank God for every year
For as long as he's still here

verse
We're like a working hand and a worn leather glove
All he cares about in life is crystal clear
I'll always show him my respect for what he does
For as long as he’s still here

repeat chorus

bridge
He doesn’t have to share his time
But that’s what he wants to do
He opened up these eyes of mine
To a love, I know is true

90 Proof Thinkin'

Plays: 0
Lyrics
Verse
Four in the airport, two in the air
Left me ready for a getaway drink
Dropped my bag, left my cares
Before I had time to think

Pre chorus
Found a bar at the beach said what do ya got
To a tatted bartender with golden dreadlocks

Chorus
[she said]
We’ve got rum runners, mai tais too
Pina coladas and Tropical Dew
It’s time to have a little fun
With paper umbrellas and spicy rum
Swap them Levi’s for a swimming suit
Have a taste of tropical fruit
Turn off that phone, it’s time for drinkin’
Cause you could use a little 90 proof thinkin’

verse
She slid a strong one, across the bar
I took a sip, she gave me a tip
Lose the girl. keep the scars
Can’t start over ‘til you quit

pre chorus
Don’t know how she knows so much about me
But I sure like the taste of her therapy

Repeat Chorus

bridge
It’s not some psychic ability
She sees a lot of guys like me
I’m still gonna try to let her
90 proof potions make me feel better

Chorus
Gimme rum runners, mai tais too
Pina coladas and Tropical Dew
It’s time to have a little fun
With paper umbrellas and spicy rum
So I swapped my Levi’s for a swimming suit
Took a taste of tropical fruit
Deleted her number while I was drinkin’
Time to start over thanks to 90 proof thinkin’

Pass It On

Plays: 0
Lyrics
Verse
Grandpa played an old J45
And he could make that guitar sing
I love the way he brought it to life
To me he’ll always be the king

He took his time to teach me
Every week he’d show me chords
I would practice on my my starter guitar
Until my fingers were sore

After he passed, Grandma gave that guitar to me
Saying, this is where he wanted it to be

Chorus I
Can still hear Grandpa saying
Show yourself in your work and you will live on
And you will leave so many memories after you’re gone
When it’s time, find a home for something that you love
So each time they use it, you can watch from above

So, pass it on

Verse
Each time I work on my old pick-up
My son is always by my side
We have poured in countless hours
Now we show it off with pride

Chorus II
Now I still catch myself saying
Show yourself in your work and you will live on
And you will leave so many memories after you’re gone
When it’s time, find a home for something that you love
So each time they use it, you can watch from above

So pass it on

Bridge
When you have something you treasure
You pass it on to someone you treasure

Chorus I
Can still hear Grandpa saying
Show yourself in your work and you will live on
And you will leave so many memories after you’re gone
When it’s time, find a home for something that you love
So each time they use it, you can watch from above
It doesn’t have to end
You can live again,

So, pass it on

Nicer Boots

Plays: 0
Lyrics
Verse I
When I first started working with Jimmy
We were both just getting by
Yeah, with every building job he got
He had me by his side

Pre Chorus
The years have been kind to him
He’s made sure to bring me along

Chorus
In all the time I've known him
Success hasn’t changed the man
And anytime I’ve needed him
He’s been quick to lend a hand
I’ve always been impressed
How he stays true to his roots
Yeah, the only difference nowadays
Is the man’s got nicer boots

Verse
When I pick up a bag of cement
He loves to smile and pick up two
And rub it in over cold beers
When the workdays through

Repeat Chorus

Bridge
You’re on a good path
If you remember, who you are
I know beneath his blue collar
Beats a giving heart

Repeat Chorus

outro
only difference nowadays
is he's got nicer boots

Lyrics
Verse
Wedding pictures, mama's blanket,
The coffee table her daddy made
Grandpa's old J-45,
He taught the grandkids how to play
A lifetime of possessions,
a pile of burning memories
How could a wildfire take
Everything from a family

Chorus
We can try to question why
Things happen like they do
How could something hurt so bad
In a world we once knew
We can try to understand
But there's always a bigger reason
God did what God does

Verse
Five years later, a different house,
An empty room fit for a crib
A door more tragedy kept closed,
couldn’t bear to open it
Now they got a reason to
paint those walls baby blue
They realize how close they are
after all they've been through

Repeat Chorus

Bridge
He weaves his purpose
through mystery
His plan goes far
beyond what we see

Repeat Chorus

[Outro]
We won’t always understand
But there's always a bigger reason

ANOTHER EIGHT

Plays: 0
Backstory
We wanted to write a rodeo song from the perspective of the bull.
Lyrics
Verse
Buck up, cowboy nod, let my fun begin
Better hold on tight, or you might, learn to fly again
You think you can ride me, but the countdown's on
You ain't gonna last, so watch how fast I will prove you wrong

Chorus
Eight ticks on a stopwatch is longer than it seems
'Cause it can be an eternity when you’re facing raging me
So cling to your bull rope, ‘cuz I'll dominate
Cowboy say goodbye, who's next in line, bring on another eight

Verse 2
Waitin’ on the barrel racers I’m hangin’ in the chute
Gallopin' 'round, not knockin' 'em down, wish they were through
Smellin' corn dogs and popcorn, listenin' to a Cojo song
Can't hardly wait 'til they open the gate, hop on, let’s get it on

Repeat Chorus

Bridge
I get fed the same, don't get paid, no silver buckle for me
Can’t relax with you on my back, and you still wonder why I'm angry
C’mon, cowboy ten, nine

Final Chorus/Outro
Eight ticks on a stopwatch is longer than it seems
'Cause it can be an eternity, when you’re facing raging me
So cling to your bull rope, ‘cuz I'll dominate
Cowboy say goodbye, maybe you should try,
a mechanical bull on your next ride
Bushwhacker says goodbye
better luck on your next try
Bring on another eight

Need An Alabama Rain

Plays: 0
Lyrics
Verse
Monday, heading down to the laundry mat
So I grabbed a couple of his shirts too
But I found hot pink lipstick
And the scent of her perfume
And I knew

Pre-Chorus
It ain't like this ain't happened before
But I ain't gonna take it no more

Chorusutro

Need an Alabama rain to wash the bad away
One that soaks the ground, as it pours down
The kind that goes on for days
Need an Alabama rain to make it all okay
Strong enough to end this curse, a heavy cloudburst
Carry me to a better place
There's no reason for the sun to shine today
Need an Alabama rain

Verse 2
So I hung with my friend Jack Daniels
To help me figure what I'm gonna say
Hope I'm strong enough to let him go
'Cause this has to end today
Yeah, we're through

Repeat Chorus

Bridge
Want to stand right here 'til I'm soaking wet
And I no longer feel the pain
To wash away any trace that we had been

Repeat Chorus

Outro
There's no reason for the sun to shine today
I need and Alabama rain

Friends We Haven't Met

Plays: 0
Lyrics
Verse
My car broke down on the side of the road
And I couldn’t get it to run
Cars were flying by
As I baked in the Arizona sun

Verse
Finally a Big Ol’ Biker pulled up
And offered to give me a hand
Each from different worlds
But that didn’t matter to this man

Chorus
I’ve really been surprised
The way my eyes
Have been opened by
The kindness of others
People across the land
Will lend a hand
Any way they can
It is a blessing I discovered
Maybe we’re not all strangers after all
Just friends we haven’t met yet

Verse
Over many years I have learned
That we aren’t so far apart
Cause when a need arises
You can’t keep down a caring heart

Repeat Chorus

Bridge
Can’t judge a book by its cover
When it comes to friends
We can all use another

Repeat Chorus

Outro
maybe we're not all strangers after all

Now I can't find my shoes in the dark

Don't put off till tomorrow, what you can do today

Been gonna bring you flowers

Now I'm sitting all alone thinking of you
I finally figured out what I did wrong

Really meant to make that reservation

Lyrics
Verse 1
Out here walking in Central Park as the sun begins to set
I’m miles way from home and haven't forgotten about us yet
Then a gift comes to me, fireflies light the evening sky
I’m thinking back to a special South Florida night

Chorus
And in my mind I see
Fireflies coming out at dusk
Spoonbills nesting for the night
Man what a beautiful sight
Oh how we loved seeing the gators
Just a resting on the bank
Beneath the Spanish moss as a choir of bullfrogs sang
But some things fly away
Like fireflies in the Everglades

Verse 2
Grateful for the time we shared only lasted for a while
Not sorry about this move but we're apart so many miles
We're both where we belong, but there is no denial
Looking back is bittersweet, I sure miss your sweet smile

Chorus
And in my mind I see
Fireflies coming out at dusk
Spoonbills nesting for the night
Man what a beautiful sight
How we loved seeing the gators
Just a resting on the bank
Beneath the Spanish moss as a choir of bullfrogs sang
But some things fly away
Like fireflies in the Everglades

Bridge
Twinkles for a moment, never know when it’s gone
treasure life's beauty when it comes along

Chorus
And in my mind I see
Fireflies coming out at dusk
Spoonbills nesting for the night
Man what a beautiful sight
How we loved seeing the gators
Resting on the bank
Beneath the Spanish moss as a choir of bullfrogs sang
But some things fly away
Yes some things fly away
How come some things fly away
Like fireflies in the Everglades

FOUR LETTER WORDS

Plays: 0
Lyrics
Verse
My daddy used four letter words
But you shouldn’t repeat everything you heard
Mama said it wasn’t right
As I learned What dish soap tastes like

Pre-chorus
I used to think life was hard
There are no days off on the farm

Chorus
Plow land, seed dirt, farm life’s, hard work
Try to do your best, in everything you do
Stay true, live long, make life, a love song
Sing it for all you are worth
Heck, even your mama will like them four letter words.

Verse
When I started writing songs
I thought it would be easy, I’d get more time off
Till I woke up late one night,
with a song begging me to write

Pre-chorus
That night I made a choice
I can still hear my daddy’s voice

Repeat Chorus

Bridge
It don’t take a lotta big words
To keep me going when things get tough
What I learned from digging in the dirt
Is the right four letters…….……… Can be enough

Repeat Chorus

[outro]
I think we need one more
four letter word
Amen

THE CAKE

Plays: 0
Backstory
Inspired by a John Stamos interview tallking about losing his friend Bob Saget
Lyrics
Verse
We all lead such busy lives
Sometimes little things slip away
We had gathered for Grandpa’s birthday
Every year did it the same way
Thought it was all taken care of
Was something we forgot to bring
Still he smiled as we began to sing
But the memory, it still stings

Chorus
We never know when the last time
Is the last time
‘til it’s forever gone away
So friends, all I can tell you is
Always order the cake

Verse
Got the call ‘bout my good friend
It’s hard to believe he is gone
We were running buddies for so long
Still feel like I treated him wrong
Last time we went out to eat
When he asked me, “Got time for dessert?
Blew him off cause, I had too much work
Man, now I feel like such a jerk

Chorus
We never know when the last time
Is the last time
‘til it’s forever gone away
So friends, all I can tell you is
Always order the cake

Bridge
Slow down and pay attention
To those who matter most in life
Cause moments don’t last
But the memories
just might

Chorus
We never know when the last time
Is the last time
‘til it’s forever gone away
So friends, all I can tell you is
Always order the cake

Lyrics
Verse
I didn't get the day off so I called in sick
I couldn't pass up those great playoff tix
So we took a selfie I asked my pal not to post
he already had, guess I should have known

Chorus
Somebody's phone sees everything we do
Somebody's phone is always watching you
In this new reality there's no such thing as privacy
And even when you think you're all alone
Lights camera action, you’re the coming attraction
'cause you're the star of the show
On somebody's phone

Verse
Ran into my ex and stopped for a chat
Took a quick pic cause she liked my hat
An innocent post my partner didn't like
I had to sleep on the couch that night

Chorus
Somebody's phone sees everything we do
Somebody's phone is always watching you
In this new reality there's no such thing as privacy
And even when you think you're all alone
Lights camera action, you’re the coming attraction
You're the star of the show
on somebody's phone

Bridge
To make matters worse, it's so hard to detect
Is it even real or made with A-I effects

Chorus
Somebody's phone sees everything we do
somebody’s phone is always watching you

And even when you think you're all alone

Lyrics
Verse 1
You said you were going to do X, Y, and Z
I believed in your dreams, naive me
Thought you'd get promotions and take us to exotic locations
While my mind worked overtime, yours must have been on vacation

Chorus
I fell for a fairy tale fantasy
Thought you were the prince you claimed you could be
But I woke up to the reality
It was time for this princess to leave
But all is not lost, I learned something essential
Don't fall in love with potential

Verse 2
Oh, I watched your actions every single day
found out what you do doesn’t match what you say
Toxic red flags waving, healthy green flags are the best
What I lost in love now I'll gain back in confidence

Chorus
I fell for a fairy tale fantasy
Thought you were the prince you claimed you could be
I woke up and faced reality
It's time for this princess to leave
But all is not lost, I learned something essential
Don't fall in love with potential

Bridge
Could have built that castle together
If it wasn't made of sand
Should have seen you asking my daddy for my hand
Would have had a storybook ending
The way that I planned
But don't worry, I'll keep your secrets confidential
And write you off as untapped potential

Chorus
I fell for a fairy tale fantasy
Thought you were the prince you claimed you could be
Woke up and faced the reality
It was time for this princess to leave

Beneath the Spanish moss as a choir of bullfrogs sang
But some things fly away
Like fireflies in the Everglades

Bridge
Twinkles for a moment, never know when it’s gone
treasure life's beauty when it comes along

Chorus
And in my mind I see
Fireflies coming out at dusk
Spoonbills nesting for the night
Man what a beautiful sight
How we loved seeing the gators
Resting on the bank
Beneath the Spanish moss as a choir of bullfrogs sang
But some things fly away
Yes some things fly away
How come some things fly away
Like fireflies in the Everglades

That Old Love Song

Backstory
100% human authored, SUNO used for production of demo only
Lyrics
Verse 1
Love wrote a song in my heart so many years ago
Lyrics spoke to me with a melody sweet and low
But over time the record skipped a beat or two
Thought it'd last forever but I guess that wasn't true

Chorus
'Cause that old love song, I sang a thousand times before
Lost that loving feeling, didn't want to sing it anymore
With you I found a happiness, I'd never known
You came and gave new life, to that old love song
(Ooh-ooh-ooh)

Verse 2
Wanna write a second verse to that old love song
'Cause every day with you makes me want to sing along
The music of our love now has a reason and a rhyme
And I only want to be with you, till the end of time

Chorus
'Cause that old love song, I sang a thousand times before
Lost that loving feeling, didn't want to sing it anymore
With you I found a happiness, I'd never known
You came and gave new life, to that old love song

Bridge
Don't think I don't think about, all the things you've done for me
That old love song sounds better, when you sing harmony

Chorus
'Cause that old love song, I sang a thousand times before
Lost that lovin' feeling, I don't wanna sing it anymore
With you I found a happiness, I'd never known
You came and gave new life, to that old love song
(Ooh-ooh-ooh)
I love that old love song

Back Pain

Plays: 0
Backstory
We wrote this with Megan in mind, country pop, sad girl story happy music,
Lyrics
Verse 1
I hopped on that he's-not-that-bad train
Sadly I knew that track rather well
All aboard chugs along till the next stop hell
Of course he says that I'm the one to blame

Chorus
Pain's part of life
Sometimes suffering's a choice
I keep taking back
guys I should avoid
Einstein would call me clinically insane
For thinking that it won't end the same
But a Band-Aid's not the way
To heal my back pain

Verse 2
Gave up on trains, I'm at the airport
Hope they don't cancel my flight this morning
But if they do I'll heed the warning
Slam shut this back and forth revolving door

Repeat Chorus

Bridge (spoken)

Now I'm at the chiropractor
And he's really cute

Repeat Chorus

Outro
I still have enough spine to speak my mind
And hand you back my back pain

SCREEN DOOR

Plays: 0
Lyrics
Verse
Barefoot kids on a worn wood floor
Don't think we ever locked the front door
Sweet tea sweating on the windowsill
Waiting for someone coming up the hill
Didn't need a reason, didn't need a plan
Just a hey y'all and a helping hand

Verse
Now it's lonesome on this little street
With the Curtains drawn it's hard to see
We got opinions, got our pride
Let’s put all of that aside
It’s not worth losing good friends
Why can’t we all be neighbors again

Chorus
I'll leave the screen door open
See what the breeze blows in
Welcome my neighbors and their laughter
into my home again
I'll leave the screen door open
I'll leave the screen door open
I'll leave the screen door open
Don't knock just come on in

Verse
I’ll Put another rocker on the front porch
Sit in the swing and wave a little bit more
Next time I see you going for a walk
Hope you'll have a minute to talk
There may be a fence between our yards
Let’s build a gate it won’t be hard

Chorus
So I'll leave the screen door open
See what the breeze blows in
Welcome my neighbors and their laughter
Into my home again
I'll leave the screen door open
Leave the screen door open
I'll leave the screen door open
Don't knock just come on in

Bridge
It don't take much
Little time, little trust
Maybe just leaving that door
open long enough

Chorus
So I'll leave the screen door open
I'll leave the screen door open
Welcome my neighbors and their laughter
into my heart again
I'll leave the screen door open
I'll leave the screen door open
I'll leave the screen door open
Don't knock just come on in

Outro
I'll leave the screen door open
Y'all just come on in

Worst Day

Plays: 0
Lyrics
Verse
Saw a picture of the two of us
On my phone when I got the news
Couldn’t let that image go
Cause that would make it true
All those times we shared together
Didn't think would ever end
I’d give the last beat of my heart
To hear you say again

Chorus
Some days are gonna be cloudy
The sun finds a place to hide
When you can’t see a rainbow
You can borrow one of mine
When I felt like it couldn’t get worse
I'd lean on you a little more
The worst day of my life
Was the last day of yours

Verse
Hit the snooze one time too many
Need to get out of bed now
Head back to work again
Wish you could show me how
Somehow pulled myself together
When I remembered what you said
I forgot to bring my lunch
But I brought your words instead

Chorus
Some days are gonna be cloudy
The sun finds a place to hide
When you can’t see a rainbow
You can borrow one of mine
When I felt like it couldn’t get worse
I'd lean on you a little more
The worst day of my life
Was the last day of yours

Bridge
You were on my mind again today
When they played that Keith Whitley song
I closed my eyes anyway
As your words gave me
the strength
to go on

Chorus
Some days are gonna be cloudy
The sun finds a place to hide
When you can’t see a rainbow
You can borrow one of mine
When I felt like it couldn’t get worse
I'd lean on you a little more
The worst day of my life
will always be
the last day of yours

SMILE AT A STRANGER (DOLLY)

Plays: 0
Backstory
Positive song for our times with Dolly in mind
Lyrics
Verse 1
The hostess at the restaurant
Was having a bad day
She's probably expecting me to complain about the wait
In a world of negativity
Kindness is a choice
So I'll just stand here patiently instead of raise my voice

Chorus
I'll just smile at a stranger today
Kindness is like a beautiful sunrise
It warms the heart in its own special way
And you get back more than you leave behind

Verse 2
The agent for the airline said my flight's delayed tonight
It may not make a difference, but I said it's alright

Chorus
I'll just smile at a stranger today
Kindness is like a beautiful sunrise
It warms the heart in its own special way
And you get back more than you leave behind

Bridge
I can always find a reason to be kind
And I got enough smiles to give you one of mine

Chorus
So I'll just smile at a stranger today
Kindness like a beautiful sunrise
It warms the heart in its own special way
And you get back more than you leave behind

Final Chorus
Won't you smile at a stranger today
Kindness is like a beautiful sunrise
It warms the heart in its own special way
And you get back more than you leave behind

Backstory
Texas pride song! SUNO demo but lyrics and music 100% human authored
Lyrics
Verse
I was in New York City and a guy was boasting
They had most everything a man could need
Told him I had to disagree and someday he ought to take a trip with me

Chorus
'Cause if you ain't seen the night parade in San Antone
Tipped your hat to old Big Tex
Walked in a field of blue Bonnets right beside the road
My friend, you ain't seen Texas yet
If you ain't had burnt beans barbecue on your plate
Seen a sunset in Big Bend
Driven for ten hours straight and you still ain't out of state
My friend, you ain't seen Texas yet

Verse
He said I once flew into Dallas, had to spend the night
So I've been there before
Couldn't find a decent slice and the restaurant had sawdust on the floor
And I told him, you're missing so much more

Chorus
If you ain't seen the night parade in San Antone
Tipped your hat to old Big Tex
Walked in a field of bluebonnets right beside the road
My friend, you ain't seen Texas yet
If you ain't had burnt beans barbecue on your plate
Seen a sunset in Big Bend
Driven for ten hours straight and you still ain't out of state
My friend, you ain't seen Texas yet

Bridge
If you ain't thought the Cowboy Cheerleaders were giving you a wave
Grabbed a longneck at Billy Bob's and danced the night away
If you think that what you're bragging on is as good as it gets
My friend, you ain't seen Texas yet

Chorus
And if you ain't seen the night parade in San Antone
Tipped your hat to old Big Tex
Walked in a field of bluebonnets right beside the road
My friend, you ain't seen Texas yet
If you ain't had burnt beans barbecue on your plate
Seen a sunset in Big Bend
Driven for ten hours straight and still ain't out of state
My friend, you ain't seen Texas yet
If you think that what you're bragging on is as good as it gets
Well my friend, you ain't seen Texas yet
No my friend, you ain't seen Texas yet

Let our music carry you away
If the reason you stay is you like the way we play

Your best shot isn't in that glass
So don't just sit there like a fool

Every Girl and Boy

Plays: 0
Lyrics
verse
Mama, if it’s wrong to lie, can you please tell me why?
Parents tell their kids there’s a Santa Claus
She said Santa and his sleigh, is just a grown-up way
Of reminding them to share, just because

pre-chorus
There might not be a man in a red suit
But all he represents is really true

chorus
I believe in Santa Claus for I know he's real
through each and every one of us his magic is revealed
I believe he teaches us how giving brings us joy
His spirit sparkles in the eyes of every girl and boy

verse
Son, there’s a reason why we tell a temporary why
This might be hard for you to understand
But someday you will find Santa is a state of mind
It’s about the meaning, not the man

pre-chorus
Parents teach their children to believe
So they don’t forget what Santa really means

chorus
I believe in Santa Claus for I know he's real
through each and every one of us his magic is revealed
I believe he teaches us giving how brings us joy
His spirit sparkles in the eyes of every girl and boy

I believe that everyone should smile on Christmas Day
The little child inside of us is always gonna say

Christmas Morning Smile

Plays: 0
Lyrics
v1
A snowflake lands upon your nose, for a moment ‘n melts away
I fix your hair as the cold wind blows, and we watch the children play
It’s all part of Mother Nature’s dance, the endless snow from above
Her winter wonderland of romance, is the canvas for our love

C
Every night’s like Christmas Eve
I’m too excited to sleep
I await each morning’s light
Bringing the most beautiful sight
The one I love sleeping peacefully
Every day you wake up next to me
You’ll see me grinning like a little child
With a Christmas morning smile

V2
The magic of a Christmas tree, all its glitter and its lights
Reminds me of the grace I see, shining in you so bright
So take my hand under the mistletoe, and let’s get lost together
With the gift of your love I know Christmas lasts forever

Repeat C

B
Santa brought me a present
I love the whole year through
Changed my life in a moment
When he led me to you

A yeti full of ice cold brews

Just what we’re gonna do

By the light of a tiki torch
My favorite peeps sitting next to me
A man couldn’t ask for more

It’s almost heaven in my backyard
When There’s a fire in the pit in a couple guitars
Singin’ all those songs livin’ deep inside
Melodies that keep the spirit alive
When friends get together
Life couldn’t be better
No matter where I am I’m never too far
From my backyard

Don’t call me old fashioned
But I’ll gladly pour you one
As we share our tales of days gone by
And maybe what’s still to come

Six String

Plays: 0
Lyrics
Verse 1
Everybody's chasing something
A bigger house, a better view
A little more money,
more shine on something new
We're scrolling through the A-List life,
trying to find out what it means
But I'm learning what I want a
ain't always what I need

Pre-Chorus
I'm a simple man, so here's my life plan

Chorus
All I want is one wife, two kids, three dogs
A four-wheel drive and a job that ends at five
A front porch, a backyard swing,
the Good Lord watching over me
And when the whole world don't mean a thing
I've still got my six string

Verse 2
Yes, boy, you better hustle,
better climb that ladder fast
Better build yourself a future
that is meant to last
But I've seen too many people
have it all and still feel poor
So I'm kicking off my boots
and chasing nothing anymore

Pre-Chorus
I'm a simple man and I know where I stand

Chorus
All I want is one wife, two kids, three dogs
A four-wheel drive and a job that ends at five
A front porch, a backyard swing,
the Good Lord watching over me
And when the whole world don't mean a thing
I still got my six string

Bridge
And by the time I count to five
I got everything I need in my life

Chorus
All I want is one wife, two kids, three dogs
A four-wheel drive and a job that ends at five
A front porch, a backyard swing
the Good Lord watching over me
And when the whole world don't mean a thing
I still got my six string

Outro
Yes, all I need is the simple life
And my six string

Old Fashioned Christmas

Plays: 0
Lyrics
Verse 1
I miss our holiday tradition
Making popcorn garlands for our tree
Mom singing carols with me
dad smiling in the kitchen

Chorus
Before he put on the Santa suit
Dad put his bartending skills to use
Grabbed oranges cherries bitters and rye
made an old fashioned,
Christmas time

Verse2
Once all the stockings had been hung
And the presents were carefully wrapped
It was time for a fruitcake snack
Cause Santa's helpers were all done

Chorus
But, before he put on the Santa suit
Dad put his bartending skills to use
Grabbed oranges cherries bitters and rye
Made an old fashioned,
Christmas time

Bridge
So when December 24th rolls around this year
Here's the perfect recipe for some holiday cheer

Final Chorus
Before you put on the Santa suit
Put your bartending skills to use
grab those oranges cherries bitters and rye
and make an old fashioned,
and have an old fashioned
Christmas Time
