The Angels Sang
Phil Stephenson
10-19-25

[[Verse1]

Living a life of sin with feelings of regret

He’d go with her to church but had never engaged

When he heard the soft voice in his head

he asked forgiveness then he was saved

[Chorus]

Then the Angels sang

Another soldier found their way

We’ve got a reason to shout

While the Angels sang

[Verse2]

I can’t wait to hear that Heavenly Choir

They celebrate every time a sinner comes home

Because they’ve been saved from the fire

Their sins are washed away and now their gone

[Chorus]

Then the Angels sang

Another soldier found their way

We’ve got a reason to shout

While the Angels sang

[Chorus]

Then the Angels sang

Another soldier found their way

We’ve got a reason to shout

While the Angels sang

Lyrics
“Back When” (lady A)
Phil Stephenson
3-25-26

(Lady A Edition Full Duet Version)
Verse 1
I’ve picked up a few truths on this old highway
Some you learn the hard way, some you just feel
That corner booth at Miller’s on Main, where you wrote your name
Turned a first hello into something real
I still get that feeling driving past that spot
Where you kissed me slow in your front seat
And even now, you’re still right here with me
Verse 2
Yeah I remember every mile of that old road
Had your feet on the dash, singing every song
From that faded FM dial in my truck, playing that song we still turn up
We were young and didn’t know we’d last this long
There was fire in the air in that July sky
Every small-town light felt like a stage
Looking back now, girl, it all makes sense
We were writing every page
Chorus
I think about when… our first kiss was all it took
I think about when… we stayed up all night
Every New Year with you… we wrote it in the books
Yeah we were forever back then… and still tonight
Every now and then… my heart drifts off again
I go back to where it all began
Yeah every now and then…
I still go back to when
Verse 3
We made those memories we’ll never outgrow
The kind you don’t say out loud, you just know
Every laugh, every tear, every “don’t let go”
Still echoes in the quiet like a radio
Some are better left just the way they are
Faded in a frame in the back of our minds
But the best ones ain’t that far behind
We’re still making them in real time
Chorus
I think about when… our first kiss was all it took
I think about when… we stayed up all night
Every New Year with you… we wrote it in the books
Yeah we were forever back then… and still tonight
Every now and then… my heart drifts off again
I go back to where it all began
Yeah every now and then…
I still go back to when
Bridge
No matter where this road might bend
I’d choose you all over again
Still side by side, through every twist and turn

Lyrics
Burnin out
Phil Stephenson
6-5-26

[VERSE 1]
Got a burnin’ need to hit the gas, let it unwind
Me and this Chevy just wastin’ time
Five o’clock, I’m flyin’ through town
Tryna shake the weight that’s draggin’ me down
Tires talkin’ like I got somethin’ to prove
Like I forgot what this man’s supposed to do
I don’t say much, I just let it run
Keep outrunnin’ what I’ve become

[CHORUS]
I’m burnin’ out… tryin’ not to break down
Spinnin’ my head, round and round
Tires on fire just to feel somethin’ real
It’s the only way I know to heal
Yeah I’m burnin’ out… I’m burnin’ out
Leavin’ smoke where my mind runs out
Too fast, too far, I can’t slow down
Just burnin’ out… I was built for this life

[VERSE 2]
By Saturday I’m in my 4x4 Headed back where the world don’t talk no more Climbin’ up where the signal dies
Under a sky that don’t ask why
Sippin’ corn by a rusted fence line
Tryna get my heart in time with my mind
Two lives fightin’ in my hands
One’s built for noise, one needs to land

[CHORUS]
I’m burnin’ out… tryin’ not to break down
Spinnin’ my head, round and round
Tires on fire just to feel somethin’ real
It’s the only way I know to heal
Yeah I’m burnin’ out… I’m burnin’ out
Leavin’ smoke where my mind runs out
Too fast, too far, I can’t slow down
Just burnin’ out… I was built for this life

[BRIDGE]
She pulls me close under those stars
Says “boy, this fast life’s tearin’ you apart”
And for a second I let it all slow down
Like I might finally touch the ground
And for a second I remember who I was

[CHORUS]
Yeah I’m burnin’ out… yeah I’m burnin’ out
Leavin’ smoke where my mind runs out
Too fast, too far, I can’t slow down
Just burnin’ out… I was built for this life
I’m burnin’ out… I’m burnin’ out…

Lyrics
Don’t Tell Tomorrow about Tonight
4/26
Phil Stephenson/Shawn Fitzgerald

[Verse 1]
Should’ve said goodbye before the night felt this right
Funny how you pulled me back
Two hearts we swore were finished, findin’ tracks
Dancin’ slow like we never learned from the last time
Both of us woke up feelings we tried to hide
Makes it hard to draw that line now

[Pre-Chorus]
We both know where this leads when the daylight hits…

[Chorus]
Don’t tell tomorrow about tonight
Just remember me when you reach for the lights
Let’s hold this fire a little while
Don’t tell tomorrow about tonight

[Verse 2]
Forever wasn’t ever in the cards this way
Feels right in the moment but it’s way too late to call it right
Before the truth sinks in
I should prob’ly walk away
But if you’re chasin’ second chances, I’m yours again Friday night

[Pre-Chorus]
If we’re already fallin’, might as well ride the line…

[Chorus]
Don’t tell tomorrow about tonight
Just remember me when you reach for the lights
Let’s hold this fire a little while
Don’t tell tomorrow about tonight

[Bridge]
Sneakin’ past the sunrise, breathin’ out goodbyes
Every touch still tangled in our split lives
Watch us disappear back into who we are

[Final Chorus]
Don’t tell tomorrow about tonight
Just remember me when you reach for the lights
Let’s hold this fire a little while
Don’t tell tomorrow about tonight
Let’s not let regrets win this time

[Outro]
No need to rush the sun comin’ up
It can’t outshine the spark that we lit

LEARNING WHO YOU ARE

Lyrics
Learning who you are

Phil Stephenson
7-23-25

Vs1

You’ve known me all of my life

You were there when I’ve done wrong

Let me know when I did things right

You know where I came from and where I belong

Chorus

I’m finally getting around to learning who you are

Your the light that shines within me

You set me free and I no longer live in the dark

I once was blind and you opened my eyes

Yea, I’m learning who you are

V2

I still stumble but you pick me up when I fall

If I find myself in the dark…. I look to you

I gave up a little but you gave it all

I just want to say thank you for all you do

Chorus

I’m finally getting around to learning who you are

Your the light that shines within me

You set me free and I no longer live in the dark

I once was blind and you opened my eyes…….now I can see

Now I know who you are

Yea I know just who you are

Bridge

You hung on a wooden cross but I planted the tree
I recognize those scars because they were put there by me

Chorus

I’m finally getting around to learning who you are

Your the light that shines within me

You set me free and I no longer live in the dark

I once was blind and you opened my eyes…….now I can see

Now I know who you are

Yea I know just who you are

Lyrics
Lone Star State of Mind

Phil Stephenson
5-22-26

[Verse 1]
New tires on a worn-out truck Headed west tryin’ to change my luck
Six-string ridin’ in the shotgun seat
Just enough cash to reach Abilene
Every small town’s got a bar where the lights stay low and loud
Every highway sign I pass feels like a story callin’ out

[Chorus]
I’m in a Lone Star state of mind
Chasin’ dreams under neon lights
Teasin’ every Texas town with a song that won’t leave my mind
A southern boy with a natural drawl
Found a place to unwind, now I’m in a Lone Star state of mind

[Verse 2]
Just a hometown boy tryin’ to fill the empty rows
Met a girl who don’t mind the road
And she turns our miles into songs
Where every broken line finds a home
Every small town crowd that hears me sing Becomes familiar faces with a different scene

[Bridge]
Now I’m lookin’ at my old hometown crowd
Never thought I’d ever circle back around
Funny how every road I try to outrun sends me right back to Galveston

[Chorus]
I’m in a Lone Star state of mind
Chasin’ dreams under neon lights
Teasin’ every Texas town with a song that won’t leave my mind
Just a southern boy with a natural drawl
Found a place to unwind, now I’m in a Lone Star state of mind

Lyrics
The Spirit of Christmas
Phil Stephenson
4/26

[Verse 1]
Why does Christmas put a twinkle in a child’s eye Is there really magic hanging in that mistletoe
Do reindeer really know how to fly
And tell me why does Rudolph’s nose glow

[Pre-Chorus]
Maybe it’s not something you can hold
Or something you can see

[Chorus]
I like to believe it’s the spirit of Christmas That turns make-believe into memories It’s the spirit of giving that lives in the season
And brings a little heaven to you and me
When we let that feeling in our hearts
Suddenly the impossible starts
Looking a whole lot like it could be
Yeah I like to believe It’s the spirit of Christmas in me

[Verse 2]
Can an old hat really make Frosty dance and sing
How can elves eat all that and never grow
Do angels get their wings when those silver bells ring
And what really makes Santa’s sleigh go

[Pre-Chorus]
Maybe it’s more than stories we’re told
Maybe it’s what we need

[Chorus]
I like to believe it’s the spirit of Christmas That turns make-believe into memories
It’s the spirit of giving that lives in the season

And brings a little heaven to you and me
When we let that feeling in our hearts
Suddenly the impossible starts
Looking a whole lot like it could be
Yeah I like to believe
It’s the spirit of Christmas in me

[Bridge]
What if it’s love we pass along
Every time we right a wrong
Every hand we hold, every heart we reach That’s the magic we’ve been trying to see
So if there’s a light we’re looking for
It’s right here behind these doors
It’s been alive in you and me That’s the spirit of Christmas we need

[Chorus]
I like to believe it’s the spirit of Christmas That turns make-believe into memories
It’s the spirit of giving that lives in the season
And brings a little heaven to you and me
Now I feel it moving in my heart
Like a fire lighting up the dark
Yeah the miracle might just be
It’s the spirit of Christmas in me

GONNA LIGHT THIS HOUSE

Plays: 0
Backstory
A nice Christmas song about a couple enjoying their time together decorating and lighting up the house
Enjoy
Phil
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Yeah we’re gonna light this house on Christmas night
Boxes down, dust in the air You’re on a chair, I’m holding you steady
Tangled up in those lights and your hair
That old record’s spinning again
Like it knows where we’ve been

[Pre-Chorus]
Every year, every flame
Ain’t a single thing changed

[Chorus]
We’re gonna light this house
Every corner glowing gold somehow
Yeah we’re gonna light this house
Like a fire we ain’t putting out Let the whole world turn to white Snow falling, slowing it down
When it all burns down to quiet
It’s the same me and you right now

[Verse 2]
We don’t need much, just a little time
Two small gifts ribbons of red
You look at me like it’s Christmas morning
Every time I mean what I said
Santa’s probably running late
But we already got what he can’t make

[Pre-Chorus]
Let the cold wind blow
We got all we know

[Chorus]
We’re gonna light this house
Every corner glowing gold somehow
Yeah we’re gonna light this house
Like a fire we ain’t putting out Let the whole world turn to white Snow falling, slowing it down
When it all burns down to quiet It’s the same me and you right now

[Bridge]
Ten years from now, same front porch light
Different wrapping paper, same goodnight
When all the glow gives way to truth
You’re still you, I’m still me Same me and you

[Chorus ]
We’re gonna light this house
Every memory shining out Yeah we’re gonna light this house
Like a fire we ain’t putting out Let the whole world turn to white
Snow falling, slowing it down When it all burns down to quiet
It’s the same me and you right now

December Morning

Plays: 0
Backstory
We were challenged in one of the feedback sessions recently to write a Christmas song without using the typical Christmas phrases…bells, santa, gifts….
So I wrote this one that gives the listener a Christmas song that still gives the Holiday Spirit without the traditional jolly Santa theme

December Morning
Phil Stephenson
7-2-26
pwstephenson67@gmail.com

[Verse 1]
We should use the sunrise instead of Christmas lights
Our presents can be the stories that we share
Take long walks together beneath the tall pines
Find ways of showing others how much we really care

[Chorus]
Paint me a picture of a cold December morning
Where we go and lend our hand to a stranger
Paint me a picture of the Babe in a manger
On a cold December morning

[Verse 2]
Can we slow it down and look a little closer
Be giving hands when the world is getting colder
Turns out the best things never cost a dollar
Peace is found in every heart that's willing to offer

[Chorus]
Paint me a picture of a cold December morning
Where we go and lend our hand to a stranger
Paint me a picture of the Babe in a manger
On a cold December morning

[Bridge]
I'm not trying to take anything from under our tree
I believe the most special things are ones we cannot see

[Chorus]
Paint me a picture of a cold December morning
Where we go and lend our hand to a stranger
Paint me a picture of the Babe in a manger
On a cold December morning

EMPTY WELL

5-26/7-8-26
Phil Stephenson
pwstephenson67@gmail.com

[Verse 1]
I was chasing peace I couldn’t find
Trading truth for the noise inside my mind
The roads I traveled just pulled me from You
I hit rock bottom where my pain broke through

[Pre-Chorus]
Barely hanging on, I was slipping away
Nothing left inside me to say

[Chorus]
I’m standing at an empty well
Still holding on I don’t need what never fills me
I need the only One I couldn’t find alone
Come and find me where I fell
I’m still standing at this empty well

[Verse 2]
I tried to fix what only You could undo
All my answers just led me back to You
Every mirror showed a stranger I became
I finally stopped running… You met me in my shame

[Pre-Chorus]
Barely hanging on, I was slipping away
Nothing left inside me to say

[Chorus]
I’m standing at an empty well
Still holding on I don’t need what never fills me
I need the only One I couldn’t find alone
Come and find me where I fell
I’m still standing at this empty well

[Bridge]
Empty is where You found me
Broken is where I first believed
And grace is all I finally see

[Chorus]
I’m standing at an empty well
Still holding on I don’t need what never fills me
I need the only One I couldn’t find alone
I’m glad you found me where I fell standing at this empty well

[VERSE 1]
Every time I walk beside the ocean in the sun
Or feel those bitter winds blow
I can feel two forces shaping the life I know
And somewhere between the rain and the tides
I found the strength to survive

[PRE-CHORUS]
Every season comes and goes, every moment holds a mystery
And I’m learning every blessing was right where it was meant to be

[CHORUS]
Mother Nature blows her gentle winds while Father Time turns the pages of my life
Every storm shaped what I’ve lived through, not just what I’ve left behind
With a little more grace, and a little more love, I see it now in my eyes
It’s Mother Nature and Father Time who made me who I am

[VERSE 2]
Every glance in the mirror I see wisdom behind my grin
I’m thankful for every chapter I’ve been in
I see the hand of Heaven in the way it all aligned
Every season still unfolding, every memory still alive

[CHORUS]
Mother Nature blows her gentle winds while Father Time turns the pages of my life
Every storm shaped what I’ve lived through, not just what I’ve left behind
With a little more grace, and a little more love, I see it now in my eyes
It’s Mother Nature and Father Time who made me who I am

[BRIDGE]
I’m a little bit sunrise, a little bit survived
Every season led me closer to God’s perfect plan

[CHORUS]
Mother Nature blows her gentle winds while Father Time turns the pages of my life
Every storm shaped what I’ve lived through, not just what I’ve left behind
With a little more grace, and a little more love, I see it now in my eyes
It’s Mother Nature and Father Time who made me who I am

[Verse 1]
I like the Dodgers she likes the Mets
I'm die-hard Dallas
she likes the Jets
Whether it's pitching or punting
We don't like the same teams but there's one thing
[Chorus]
We love God and Country Go to church every Sunday
We stand up for what's right
Different teams same side for life
[Verse 2]
We celebrate our freedom She lets me fly my team flags when they win
I hang hers up too sometimes
We stay together even when the house divides

[Chorus]
We love God and Country Go to church every Sunday
We stand up for what's right
Different teams, same side for life
[Bridge]
Seasons come and seasons go
The flags change on our old flagpole
But when this world's divided every day
Love keeps us on the same side anyway
[Chorus]
We love God and Country Go to church every Sunday
We stand up for what's right
Different teams, same side for life
