About

I have been writing for over 10 years. I'm a Lyricist, so all my songs are co-writes. I have been fortunate enough to have a few songs recorded by Texas Country acts and have a couple of songs under Single Song Contracts, in Nashville.

I co-write with numerous writes, from all over. Usually, I come into a write with a variety of song concepts to bounce off my co-writer. Other times my co-writers have song ideas with Babble Tracks, which I use to come up with lyric ideas.

A TALK WITH MYSELF

Plays: 0
Backstory
The idea for this song is based on an observation I had during a Hot Summer, here in San Antonio, TX.

I was having a down day and then saw a Grandmother taking care of her grandkids. That put my life into prospective.

The second verse is also based on life down here. In recent years, we have had flooding in communities around San Antonio.

Sometimes we throw a Pity Party for ourselves until we see what others are enduring.

All lyrics and music are our creation. AI was only used to create the Demo.
Lyrics
A Talk With Myself
Mark Lambert/David Trull

Verse I
Today, I saw a grandma
Stepping off a city bus
Wiping down her grandbabies
From sweat and Texas dust

She gathered them up to cross the street
Pulling a small cart of groceries

I could tell she was doing all she could for them
And I thought, without good luck, there I am

Chorus
Sometimes I can get down
Hate the hand that I’ve been dealt
Like it’s me against the world
Been put up on the shelf

Then I realized how life
Can be for some
And having it all come together
Is easier said than done

Something in my heart
Started to melt
That’s when I had a talk with myself

Verse II
Last year a flood roared through
The heart of our little town
Spent days digging in the mud
Seeing what could be found

Strangers came out to lend a hand
Some with nothing left on their land
Others lost the most precious thing of all
Made me realize my problems are small

Chorus
Sometimes I can get down
Hate the hand that I’ve been dealt
Like it’s me against the world
Been put up on the shelf

Then I realized how life
Can be for some
And having it all come together
Is easier said than done

Something in my heart
Started to melt
That’s when I had a talk with myself

A talk with myself

All lyrics and music are our creation. AI was only used in the creation of the Demo.
Lyrics
Long As The Beer's Cold

Mark Lambert, Lee Kennedy

Verse I
Billy, I should have known better
Than to open my big ol' mouth
When you said you were moving
And needed me to help you out

But, you've been there for me
So, let's load up my truck
Three flights of stairs
In this Texas heat

Yeah, this is gonna suck

Pre Chorus
But you and me
We go way back
Always raising Hell
And burning up tracks

Chorus
Long as the beer’s cold
I'll lend you these two hands
You ain't got to pay
But feed me if you can

That's what good friends do
Help each other out
When someone needs something
They just give a shout

Long as the beer’s cold

Verse II
Been pulled in to painting
Haulin’ bags of cement
We share a brotherhood
We know what that represents

Got into messes
We didn’t know could be fixed
Came up with some bad ideas
Then saw if they would stick

Pre Chorus
But you and me
We go way back
Strong as steel
Yeah, that’s a fact

Chorus
Long as the beer’s cold
I'll lend you these two hands
You ain't got to pay
But feed me if you can

That's what good friends do
Help each other out
When someone needs something
They just give a shout

Long as the beer’s cold
You can count on me

Long as the beer’s cold
You know where I’ll be

Long as the beer’s cold
I’ll always be there

Long as the beer’s cold
I’ll go anywhere

Long as the beer’s cold

ROCKING CHAIR

Backstory
There's something unique and special about Rocking Chairs. They seem to be handed down.
Lyrics
Rockin' Chair
Mark Lambert, Lee Kennedy

Something 'bout this Ol’ rockin' chair
Grandpa left to me
He’d sit and share his stories
Always sippin’ on sweet tea

Feel like this ol oak wood
Soaked up some of his spirit
He and I still have good talks
When I'm sitting in it

Chorus I
Oh, Rockin' Chair
My time machine
Carries me into the past

Reminds me of
Treasured memories
Yeah, the good ones always last

Oh, Rockin’ Chair

Verse II
It does something to me
Seems to slow down life
Me and Grandpa get together
When I need advice

Alone I sit in this ol’ rockin chair
Hear his deep, deep voice
“Son, life slips away, make the most of it
Cause, how you live is your choice”

Chorus II
Oh, Rockin' Chair
My time machine
Carries me into the past

Reminds me of
Treasured memories
Yeah, the good ones always last

Oh, Rockin’ Chair
Take me away
To a simpler time

Of me and him
Talking through the day
How he calms my restless mind

Oh, Rockin' Chair

Bridge
Now me and Grandpa watch my babies
While I’m sitting on my porch
Only goes in two directions
I lean back and he comes forth

Chorus II
Oh, Rockin' Chair
My time machine
Carries me into the past

Reminds me of
Treasured memories
Yeah, the good ones always last

Oh, Rockin’ Chair
Take me away
To a simpler time

Of me and him
Talking through the day
How he calms my restless mind

Oh, Rockin' Chair

Lyrics
Friends We Haven’t Met Yet
Mark Lambert, Ray Kayanek

Verse I
My car broke down on the side of the road
And I couldn’t get it to run
Cars were flying by
As I baked in the Arizona sun

Finally a Big Ol’ Biker pulled up
And offered to give me a hand
Each from different worlds
But that didn’t matter to this man

Chorus
I’ve really been surprised
The way my eyes
Have been opened by
The kindness of others

People across the land
Will lend a hand
Any way they can

It is a blessing I discovered
Maybe we’re not all strangers after all

Just friends we haven’t met yet

Verse II
Over many years I have learned
That we aren’t so far apart
Cause when a need araises
You can’t keep down a caring heart

Chorus
I’ve really been surprised
The way my eyes
Have been opened by
The kindness of others

People across the land
Will lend a hand
Any way they can

It is a blessing I discovered
Maybe we’re not all strangers after all

Just friends we haven’t met yet

Bridge
Can’t judge a book by its cover
When it comes to friends
We can all use another

Chorus
I’ve really been surprised
The way my eyes
Have been opened by
The kindness of others

People across the land
Will lend a hand
Any way they can

It is a blessing I discovered
Maybe we’re not all strangers after all

Just friends we haven’t met yet

Maybe we’re not all strangers after all

Just friends we haven’t met yet

Lyrics
A Good Life
Mark Lambert, Lee Kennedy

Verse I
Seems another year’s coming to an end
And I find myself taking stock
Of how my life has been

From my battles fought
I gladly paid the price
All I’ve got to say

It’s a good life!

Chorus I
I’ve traveled to many places
I thought I’d never see
Cared for my loved ones
And they’ve cared for me

Helped a needy neighbor
That filled me with pride
And I held a precious baby
To my chest, it made me cry

Know what I call that?

A Good Life!

A Good Life!

Verse II
Sipping my scotch, as stars light up the sky
And I can’t think of much life
That has ever passed me by

Some have told me
You’ve made a huge sacrifice
All I’ve got to say

It’s a good life!

Chorus II
I‘ve brought out the gifts
That live inside of me
Pushed my life to the edge
Sometimes foolishly

Heard my children laugh
From deep inside their soul
Watched their eyes light up
As adventures would unfold

Know what I call that?

A Good Life!

A Good Life!

Bridge
Sometime life shows
How I’ve handled all my trials
Taps me on the shoulder
And brings out my smile

Chorus I
I’ve traveled to many places
I thought I’d never see
Cared for my loved ones
And they’ve cared for me

Helped a needy neighbor
That filled me with pride
And I held a precious baby

Missing Pieces

Scott Mac, Doug Jackson

Verse I

Tonight I’m sipping smooth whiskey

And smoking a good cigar

Thinkin’ ‘bout what it’s taken me

To find these precious parts

I feel calmness all around, yeah

I just smile for where I am

Sometimes life comes together

Even when there is no plan

Chorus

I've found my missing pieces

Now I get to settle down

After years and years of searching

And moving around

Surrounded by my friends and family

That’s what makes it great

For all I ever wanted

I no longer have to wait

I've found my missing pieces

Verse II

We roll up our sleeves when called on

‘Cause, there’s a love that runs deep

We’re always here for each other

And that’s what makes life sweet

Chorus

I've found my missing pieces

Now I get to settle down

After years and years of searching

And moving around

Surrounded by my friends and family

That’s what makes it great

For all I ever wanted

I no longer have to wait

I've found my missing pieces

BRIDGE

So proud of what I’ve done

With these two hands

And, I’m grateful

I now understand

Chorus

I've found my missing pieces

Now I get to settle down

After years and years of searching

And moving around

Surrounded by my friends and family

That’s what makes it great

For all I ever wanted

I no longer have to wait

I've found my missing pieces

HUGS
Baby girl runs to Grandpa
She can’t wait to wrap her arms ‘round his neck
All I see is smiling
Yeah, that hug always has the same effect

Grandpa picks her up
Lifts her high, to touch the sky
Greets her with a kiss
And ….. how I cherish this sight

Oooh, Sometimes …..
Words can’t capture our meaning
You just need to hold someone close
As we try to show them our feelings

I thank God ….

There are hugs

I can breathe, now knowing that you’re safe
Hugs say I missed you

To show your heart
And count ……

Your blessings

They can help you deal with your pain

How Do You Like Your Eggs?
Mark Lambert, JR Herrera

Verse I

Girl, tonight the floor’s really crowded

And I’ve been watching you

Like you’ve been watching me

It might as well be empty

Cause, you’re the only one I see

And your smile says what you’re thinking

And, I’ve been thinking the same thing too

So, before we go any further

I need to know one thing from you

Chorus

How do you like your eggs?

I think it’s only fair

Cause, when we both wake up

I need to know what to prepare

How do you like your eggs?

All the rest is clear

It’s so easy to see

We know this is happening

How do you like your eggs?

Verse II

Tonight we’ll solve the mystery

We both have dancin’ in our heads

Sometimes you just can’t fight it

You just go where you’re led

Something about you

Is giving me a hunch

Once we figure out breakfast

We’ll be worried ‘bout lunch

And put on your shades and a smile

Chorus

On a poor man’s yacht
Everybody’s got their favorite drink in their hand

Laid back, cruisin’ ‘round every sleepy bend

Wish that I could do this forever

You look good on paper
Look good on the screen
Show up on time
Open the door for me

When I’m talkin’, you listen
Asking me questions
‘stead of watching the game on TV

Pre-Chorus
There’s one thing I want to know
Cause, I’ve been hurt before

Chorus
There are Givers and Takers
Lovers and Fakers
People that promise you the moon

Heartbreakers and Healers
Kindhearted and Me-First

It’s okay if we want
Two different things
If a white picket fence

Stray Cat
Mark Lambert/Matt Lipscombe

Verse I
You can’t resist those furry babies
Wild eyes by the railroad track
Seeing them, baby, drives you crazy
You wanna bring ‘em all back

You see them curled up under porches
Can’t help but wanna save ‘em
I know it’s torture for ya
You can’t turn them away

Pre-Chorus
That’s just what you do
Like you did with me

Chorus
You took me in like a stray cat
A little wild but you like that
Healed my broken lonely scars
Gave me a home in your heart

You overlooked all my flaws
Never thought I was a lost cause
Figured you could mend me with your love
Forgiving and forgetting what was

Gave me a future
When I was lost in the past

You took me in like a stray cat

Verse II
When you saw me in real bad shape
Baby, you coulda walked on by
But you took me in your loving arms
And gave me a brand new life

Healed my broken lonely scars
Gave me a home in your heart

Never thought I was a lost cause
Figured you could mend me with your love
Forgiving and forgetting what was

Gave me a future
When I was lost in the past

You took me in like a stray cat

Right About Now

Mark Lambert, Matt Lipscombe

Verse I
I’m leaving you this message
Hoping that you get it
I know you don’t like me drunk dialing you

But, rumors going ‘round this loudmouth town
C’mon girl, my boys sent proof

Said you needed some space
Thought we were taking some time

Didn't know that meant running all the way
Into the one night arms of some guy

Chorus
Right about now
You’re probably slapping his knee
And laughing at his jokes

Right about now
Probably kissin’ in the corner booth
And gonna let him take you home

Right about now
You’re calling him baby
And baby, you're breaking my heart

I’ve been wrong about so many things

But baby,

I’m right about now

I’m right about now

Verse II
I’m going full throttle
Stacking up the bottles
Tryin’ to drown stubborn memories

Late nights with the guys, you were left behind
Was that the deal breaker that made you leave?

Looks like you’ll never see this itty-bitty shiny thing
Some day somebody else might have better luck with this ring

Verse

It’s about time to set me free
I’m telling you boys
Need a couple of shots

You know I’m ready to drink some beer
I’m hoping this place
Has a good strong roof
We’re ‘bout to blow it out in here

Chorus1
With one hand on the saddle
And the other in the air
Crank up the music
Gonna raise some hell

This song is a celebration of a close relationship between a father and son
Lyrics
I’ll Take It From Here
Mark Lambert and Glenda Villarreal

Verse
I still hear Dad calling, “Wanta help me fix this truck?”
I came a haulin, cause without me he’d be stuck
Remember reaching up to carry my fair share
Cause us buddies had to treat each other square

Soon that old toolbox got the better of me
My arms started to give out and he pretended not to see
With the slightest smile he took on a little more
He shared a few words as we headed to our chore

Chorus:
“If it’s alright with you, I’ll take it from here
I’m gonna need your help again so, be sure to stay near
Son, I appreciate All you’ve done
There’s a special bond between father and son”

Verse
That’s the way that it was, in the years that we shared
As time passed us by, Man, we made quite a pair
He showed me there’s nothing that I couldn’t do
He also showed me one’s never as strong as two

And at the end, after he lived a good life
I reached out to him, trying to help him in his strife
Tried to find the words so he could finally rest
I whispered in his ear, with my hand upon his chest

Chorus:
“If it’s alright with you, I’ll take it from here
I’m gonna need your help again so, be sure to stay near
Dad, I appreciate All you’ve done
There’s a special bond between father and son”

Bridge:
And as he passed, I fell on to my knees
I asked the Lord to give me strength to carry on his memory

Chorus:
“If it’s alright with you, can you take it from here?
I’m gonna need your help again so, be sure to stay near
Lord, I appreciate All you’ve done
There’s a special bond between father and son”

There’s a special bond ….

MAKING IT UP …….AS I GO

Verse I

Being pulled in this direction

On the road to who knows where

No regrets, no objections

How it ends I don't care

Just living it day to day

Doing the best I can do

Scooting down this ole highway

To my next rendezvous

Chorus:

I like pretty girls and two-lane country roads

And I take a little smoke with whiskey

Yeah, I'm a regular Ole Joe

I drive a half ton pick-up truck

And, I dance with a Lady name Luck

I’M MAKING IT UP….. AS I GO

Verse II

Well, I just crank it up loud and let it soak in

Dig my toes in the sand

Never look back at where I've been

Never know where I’m gonna land

Cause, every day's a new adventure

Another memory to hold

Another song, another picture

Another story to be told

Chorus.....

I'm making it up as I go

Verse I
When ya want to get away
Come out to the ranch
Know you lead a busy life
So, whenever you get the chance

Be sure to bring your gloves
Cause we're gonna put you to work
You're gonna use them city muscles
Next day … It’s gonna hurt!

There’s a hundred million stars
Dancing in the sky
Shooting stars burn bright
As they go flying by

We'll keep the campfire glowing
Until the morning light
It will be the best time

'cause Grandpa rules the grill
Won't be happy
Until you get your fill

Come supper time
That’s when we break out the beer
To go with all them stories
Coyotes will holler near

You'll think we found a way
To make that rat race stop

Maybe you’ll feel you don’t need
To live by the clock
When you take the time to look around
Give thanks for what you’ve got

Chorus
There’s a hundred million stars
Dancing in the sky
Shooting stars burn bright
As they go flying by

There’s a hundred million stars
Dancing in the sky
Shooting stars burn bright
As they go flying by

We'll keep the campfire glowing
Until the morning light
It will be the best time
Of your life

Order The Cake

The concept came from a celebrity speaking about a dear friend who unexpectedly passed away. He felt so badly for having rushed their last dinner. He closing message was, "Friends, all I can tell you is, Order The Cake"
Lyrics
The Cake
Mark Lambert, Ray Kayanek

Verse I
We all lead such busy lives
Sometimes little things slip away
We had gathered for Grandpa’s birthday
Every year did it the same way

Thought it was all taken care of
Was something we forgot to bring
Still he smiled as we began to sing
But the memory, it still stings

Chorus
We never know when the last time
Is the last time
‘til it’s forever gone away

So friends, all I can tell you is
Always ……….order the cake

Verse II
Got the call ‘bout my good friend
It’s hard to believe he is gone
We were running buddies for so long
Still feel like I treated him wrong

Last time we went out to eat
When he asked me, “Got time for dessert?”
Blew him off cause, I had too much work
Man, now I feel like such a jerk

Chorus
We never know when the last time
Is the last time
‘til it’s forever gone away

So friends, all I can tell you is
Always ……………order the cake

Bridge
Slow down and pay attention
To those who matter most in life
Cause moments don’t last
But the memories
just might

Chorus
We never know when the last time
Is the last time
‘til it’s forever gone away

So friends, all I can tell you is
Always ……….order the cake

Always ……….order the cake

Lyrics
Fireflies In The Everglades

Verse I
Out here walking in Central Park
As the sun begins to set
I’m miles away from home
Haven’t forgotten about us yet

Then a gift comes to me
Fireflies light the evening sky
I’m thinking back
To a special South Florida night

Chorus
And in my mind I see
Fireflies coming out at dusk
Spoon Bills nesting for the night
Man, what a beautiful sight

Oh how we loved seeing the gators
Resting on the bank
Beneath the Spanish Moss
As a choir of bullfrogs sang

But somethings fly away
Like Fireflies in the Everglades

Verse II
Grateful for the time we shared
Only lasted for a while
Still, everytime I look back
Hurts so bad not seeing your smile

Chorus
And in my mind I see
Fireflies coming out at dusk
Spoon Bills nesting for the night
Man, what a beautiful sight

Oh how we loved seeing the gators
Resting on the bank
Beneath the Spanish Moss
As a choir of bullfrogs sang

But somethings fly away
Like Fireflies in the Everglades

Bridge
Twinkles for a moment
Never know when it’s gone
Treasure life’s beauty
When it comes along

Chorus
And in my mind I see
Fireflies coming out at dusk
Spoon Bills nesting for the night
Man, what a beautiful sight

Oh how we loved seeing the gators
Resting on the bank
Beneath the Spanish Moss
As a choir of bullfrogs sang

But somethings fly away

Yeah, somethings fly away

How come somethings fly away
Like Fireflies in the Everglades?

I like to draw attention to the special moments and relationships in life.
Lyrics
As Long As He's Still Here

Verse I
There's a wealth of knowledge under that cowboy hat
Grandpa’s hands are scarred but still strong as a bear
He takes a few more breaks, but I’m okay with that
For as long as he's still here

Chorus
I know he's not like he used to be
But I take care of him cause he cared for me
Was always glad to share his time
Now it’s my honor to give him mine

Unselfish love comes shining through
But, time moves faster than we do
So, I thank God for every year
For as long as he’s still here

Verse II
We’re like a working hand in a worn leather glove
Remember when he snuck me my first beer
We’ll spend our weekends working on his old truck
For as long as he’s still here

Chorus
I know he's not like he used to be
But I take care of him cause he cared for me
Was always glad to share his time
Now it’s my honor to give him mine

Unselfish love comes shining through
But, time moves faster than we do
So, I thank God for every year
For as long as he’s still here

Bridge
He doesn’t have to share his life
But I’m so glad he wants to
He opened up these eyes of mine
To the finest man I ever knew

Chorus

But I take care of him cause he cared for me
Was always glad to share his time
Now it’s my honor to give him mine

And up on your feet
Hands in the air

The good and the bad times
There ain’t no mistakin

A little pinch of love
And a whole lot of faith

To the top of the charts
They call it Country

Gonna Raise That Trophy High

Mark Lambert, Ray Kayanek

Verse I
Might want to step out of the way
Cause, I'm telling you now, we came to play
One sad thing about keepin' score
The whole world’s gonna know who wanted it more

I'm calling it now, we're gonna win
You ain’t gonna like the way this ends
Cheering fans will dance as air horns sound
Tonight's the night we claim the crown

Chorus
Gonna raise that trophy high in the air
Spray champagne, while the car horns blare
Grab our banners and wave 'em high
Party in the streets as the fireworks fly

Like a heat seeking missile, filled with rage
‘Til the echo of the whistle, puts us center stage
What’s happening tonight really ain’t fair
Gonna raise that trophy high in the air

Verse II
My new bling will be so sweet
Head to the house if you can't stand the heat
Everyone knows how this story ends
Starting tonight our dynasty begins

Chorus

Bridge
Wouldn’t stand in the way of an oncoming flood
Cause, winning flows strong through our blood

This is a humorous description of how guys are barely house broken.
Lyrics
I’m Not Done With You Yet

Mark Lambert, Austin Yount

Verse 1

I used to leave my socks around and dishes in the sink

Keep my fridge full of bottles of that cheap stuff she won’t drink

I even took my favorite antlers down off of the wall

And my boys think I’ve gone missing

Cause, I don’t answer when they call

Pre-Chorus

And I heard her tell her friends, “This one I can fix”

But, she won’t be the first one to try

And teach me some new tricks

Chorus

So, my dog knows to move over

When he sees me coming towards his house

Cause, he knows that that’s what happens

When I run my big ol’ mouth

And I think I’ve come a long way

She says, “I’ll take what I can get”

I tell her “I’m not quite housebroken”

And she says, “I’m not done with you yet”

Verse 2

She finally got me to put the lid down

And not open bottles with my teeth

And I’ve figured out not to use her good towels

After I’ve been working on my jeep

Chorus

Bridge:

Oh, we all have to grow up, sooner or later

But sometimes I come home and she’s at the door

With that rolled up newspaper

Chorus

I’m not done

I’m not done with you yet

Sad Ole Country Song
Mark Lambert, Ronnie Jackson and Ron Day

V1.....
When you're all beat up and ya need a little healing
You can't find the words to say what you're feeling
You can't go wrong with a Sad Ole Country Song

Well, your heart's been broken
And your dream's been shattered
And you can't find your way to the top of the ladder
You can't go wrong with a Sad Ole Country Song

Chorus.....
When you're so lonesome, you could cry
You need a misty-eyed, Whiskey-fied Lullaby
Some Strawberry Wine to help things along

Well, your Blue Eyes Cryin’ in the Rain, they say
When the Cowboy Saddles Up and Rides Away
You just can't go wrong with a Sad Ole Country Song

V2.....
Well, you're down to the last few flickers of your candle
Cause your life's like a prime-time TV scandal

Verse I
This here’s your invite
To the Hottest gig in town
Santa’s After-Party
Soon as he ends his rounds

The elves have been Jammin’
Yeah, they’re ready to lay it down
The show kicks off
When we hear the hooves hit the ground

Chorus
Nobody heats up a party
Like the Coolest Man
There’s ever been

Santa’s got the Northern Lights
Dancing in a big ol’ spin

Polar Bears are shaken and swingin’
Them furry behinds
As they’re keepin’ time

Who can say No
To that big ol’ jolly laugh
And that rosy cheek grin

So, if you get the chance

You better be sure to do drop in

Verse II
Blitzin makes a mean ol’ punch
That will make ya howl
After a couple you’ll be flyin’

Prancer’s workin’ the sound
Vixen will keep it goin‘
Til ya throw in the towel

Meet My Old Man

JR Herrera, Mark Lambert

Verse I

Many years from now I’ll meet my Old Man

I’ll look in the mirror and there he will stand

Saying my youth is gone and time is shorter everyday

So, right now I’m working on what I want him to say

Chorus I

Man, what a ride!

I can’t think of anything we didn’t try

We broke a few bones along the way

I bet what we did in life won’t soon fade away

Yeah, that’s what I’m hoping my Old Man will say

Verse II

It took a few years for me to understand

Life doesn’t always go according to plan

We only get one life, sometimes it can get real tough

But, if you jump in with both feet, once will be enough

Chorus II

Man, what a ride!

I'd do it all again, even when i cried

We lost a few times but got to play

So, very thankful for the love that came to stay

Yeah, that’s what I’m hoping my Old Man will say

Chorus I

Man, what a ride!

I can’t think of anything we didn’t try

We broke a few bones along the way

One more shot for what’s been lost
I wanna drink to forget what we had
And all of the trouble it caused

I’ll pretend it’s all good
Like it don’t bug me at all
It don’t get tough

And every empty glass takes me back in time
I’m gonna erase the silly plans we made

Where Your Tan Lines Fade
Mark Lambert, Rick Mathews, Brian Donkers

Verse I
Beach sunset
We ain't done yet
Cherry lips
And your come here eyes

Got me thinking that
Tonight's all about you and I

And I've been crushin' on your
Sun kissed skin
It's a sin
What that tie-dye dress, it hides

So, leave it in my hands
Baby, I 've got plans in mind

Yeah...

Chorus 1
With cabernet and candle light
Stars hangin' in the sky
We can step inside
And light a fire

Get it burning bright
Spin some vinyl Etta James
Slow dance the night away

Yeah, we'll pull them shades
Let my fingers trace
Where your tan lines fade

Verse II
Got your hand in my back pocket
I got mine running through your moon lit hair
Moving in too close
There's your Dolce in the air

Imagination running
Wild and free, you and me
Got it all right down to a T
We're perfect every time we touch

So, how about we start right now
This thing between the two of us

Chorus 1
With Cabernet and candle light
Stars hangin' in the sky
We can step inside
And light a fire
Get it burning bright

Spin some vinyl, Etta James

Where your tan lines fade

Chorus 2
Cabernet and candle light
Stars hangin' in the sky

Just to hear that classic song at last

Let my fingers trace
Where your tan lines fade

Oh, we can pull them shades
Let my fingers trace
Where your tan lines fade

Oh, we can pull them shades
Let my fingers trace
Where your tan lines fade

Oh, we can pull them shades

Damn Right
Rick Matthews/Mark Lambert/Brian Donker

Verse
Creole Jones is a real bad man
Whiskey breathe and double wide shoulders
Where the devil sits

I’ve loved his daughter, Sarah Lynn
Since the seventh grade
But Creole said, “Stay the Hell away”

So, she sneaks out almost every nights
When he passes out in bed
And I’d hold her tight
With tears in her eyes says
“Will this ever end?

Chorus
Damn Right, there’s gonna come a day
He’ll pay the price for every hand he laid
Every cut and every bruise and scar
That won’t ever fade away

Just wait, one night he’ll close his eyes
Drink himself to sleep, for the last time
Never wake up again to do you wrong
It’s gonna be, Damn Right

Verse II
Make -up and sunglasses on
She keeps her head down low
To hide his endless wrongs

Heaven knows the Hell he’s puts her through
Her Baby Blues, a hundred shades of black and blue
Oh, God it’s true

And I want to get my 12 gauge
End it all right here and now
But she hold me back
Says not tonight

So I make this vow

Chorus II
Damn Right, there’s a gonna come a day
He’ll pay the price for every hand he laid
Every cut and every bruise and scar
He left on your pretty face

Just wait, one night he’ll close his eyes
Drink himself to sleep, for the last time
Never wake up again to do you wrong
I’m gonna do it…. Damn Right

Bridge
Well, the folks ‘round town say ain’t it a shame
Little Sarah’s left all alone!
Her drunken old man finally done himself in
Must have drank himself stone cold

But, there’s a smile on her face
And a light in her eyes
As the preacher starts to prays
Cause flowers ain’t the only thing
We put in that grave

Chorus III
Damn Right, his time has come today
He paid the price for every hand he laid
For all those times he did you wrong
Yeah, we did it Damn Right

Damn Right
Yeah he finally paid

Damn Right
For what he did, now
He’ll never wake up again to do you wrong

Yeah,

Damn Right

Lyrics
The Bottle Still Holds Me
Mark Lambert, Isaac Jacob

Verse I
As I step from the shadows
To the warmth of the sunlight
I pray I win this battle
That I no longer want to fight

I was dreaming of a place
That’s so far away from here
And a precious lovely lady
Who once held me so dear

Chorus
But that bottle still holds me
And it won’t let me go
And I hope I’m not as beat up
As my dirty reflection shows

Today may be the last chance
To turn my life around
Cause, I feel like I’m being courted
By the cold, cold ground

Verse II
And I used to be a strong man
Before I dropped my guard
And the whiskey became my best friend
And the numbness took charge

But the sun came up again today
And I’m taking it as a sign
That maybe I’m not alone
And I’m praying to win this time

Chorus
But that bottle still holds me
And it won’t let me go
And I hope I’m not as beat up
As my dirty reflection shows

Today may be the last chance
To turn my life around
Cause, I feel like I’m being courted
By the cold, cold ground

Bridge:
I don’t want to be six feet under
And pushing up daisies
I want to live again.

Lord, I want to live again

Chorus
But that bottle still holds me
And it won’t let me go
And I hope I’m not as beat up
As my dirty reflection shows

Today may be the last chance
To turn my life around
Cause, I feel like I’m being courted
By the cold, cold ground

Today may be the last chance
To turn my life around
Cause, I feel like I’m being courted

Take It To The Bank
Mark Lambert, Matt Lipscombe

Verse I
Payday on the patio
Baby, slide in next to me
This salt and lime ain’t the cure
For one helluva week

This bar is rowdy ‘round this time
Wanna hear every pretty word you say
I know a place we can be alone
You're smiling, girl, what do you say?

Pre-chorus
Your love is money, honey

Chorus
We can take it to the bank,
The bank, the river bank
Baby just me and you

Watch the sun sink, sink,
On the water
Sittin’ and sippin’ a few

Watch the shooting stars come out
As they make it rain
I’ve been saving all my love for you
Wanna spend it on you today

Baby, we got God to thank, thank
We can take it to the bank

Verse II
Shiny moonlight, silver river
Girl, you are gold
No need to lift a pretty finger
Babe, I’m already sold

You open the lock to my heart
Make me feel like a millionaire
Lovin’ from you and I’m set for life
So good, it can’t be fair

Pre-chorus
Your love is money, honey

Chorus
We can take it to the bank,
The bank, the river bank
Baby just me and you

Watch the sun sink, sink,
On the water
Sittin’ and sippin’ a few

Watch the shooting stars come out
As they make it rain
I’ve been saving all my love for you
Wanna spend it on you today

Baby, we got God to thank, thank
We can take it to the bank

Bridge
We can take it fast
We can take it slow
We can take this thing wherever you wanna go

Chorus
We can take it to the bank,
The bank, the river bank
Baby just me and you

Watch the sun sink, sink,
On the water
Sittin’ and sippin’ a few

Watch the shooting stars come out
As they make it rain
I’ve been saving all my love for you
Wanna spend it on you today

Baby, we got God to thank, thank
We can take it to the bank

Baby, what ya think? think, think
We can take it to the bank

The Same For Me
Mark Lambert/Mikey Goode

Verse I
You say you wouldn't have made it
If it hadn't been for me
But I made a promise years ago
And this is right where I want to be

Treatments and Doctors are scary
When dealing with the unknown
But for any fear, don't worry, Dear
You'll never do this alone

Chorus
So, there's no need for Thanks
We share each other's strengths
Mine comes from endless memories
Of all that you've done for me

And I find a soothing comfort
In never having doubt
I gained faith from watching
How you treat all those you care about

Cause, I know, you'd do the same for me

You'd do the same for me

Verse II
This challenge ain’t no different
Than others in our life
You've cared for me as your husband
I'll care for you as my wife

From the beginning I knew that I'd found
What I was looking for
We'll get through this rough chapter
Many more great days in store

Chorus

Yes, I know, you'd do the same for me

You'd do the same for me

Gotta Pick Your Fights
Mark Lambert. Mikey Goode

V1
Sometimes us guys are a bit slow to learn
Listen to me fellas, some day it’ll be your turn
I was in my garage cleaning my fishing gear
When out of nowhere the lil’ woman appeared

Waving new shoes, she insisted I see
"How many does that make, baby?
Is that pair sixty-three?”

She gave me a look that made the puppies run
Then calmly asked me,“All them fishing poles,
Ya need everyone?”

Pre- Chorus
I told her, Honey, Baby,
My precious Sweetie Pie
If I didn’t have all these rods, I’d die

Chorus
This one’s made of fiberglass
That makes it extra strong
And you should see how this one flies
When I need to cast real long

And, this one’s made for saltwater
And this one’s made for fresh
This one’s made for the deep sea, …….
Yeah, I think I might like it the best

Then, she stood there with her eyebrows raised
And a tilt to her head
I realized I should shut my mouth,
So not another word was said

Yeah, I might be a bit slow,
But she showed me the light

Guys, I’m telling you

Ya, Seriously Boys! …..

You’ve gotta pick your fights!!

V2
Well, the conversation finally came to an end
But it was just my luck, that a new one began
She said, “You're taking me out for dinner and a show
I rolled my eyes and let her know that I didn’t want to go

I said “What do you think, Honey, money grows on trees?”
And she turned around and gave that look to me
She said “I think there might be something you’re taking for granted
For these damn poles, how many money trees were planted?”

Chorus
This one’s made of fiberglass
That makes it extra strong
And you should see how this one flies
When I need to cast real long

And, this one’s made for saltwater
And this one’s made for fresh
This one’s made for the deep sea, …….
Yeah, I think I might like it the best

Then, she stood there with eyebrows raised
And a tilt to her head
I realized that I should shut my mouth,
So not another word was said

Yeah, I might be a bit slow,
But she showed me the light

Guys, I’m telling you

Ya, Seriously Boys! …..

You’ve gotta pick your fights!!

Yeah, a happy wife means a happy life, guys

You’ve gotta pick your fights

Go Through

Verse I
I’m here looking through old photos
Wondering where did the time go
Found a picture of my mullet and me
That’s something I don’t want anyone to see

Pre-Chorus
Here I am in a cast, from when I broke my arm
Trying to show off for Sally out in her Daddy’s barn
There’s so many chapters that I’ve been through
So, glad to say, I’ve learned a thing or two

Chorus
Yeah, go through good times, go through bad
All the letdowns I’ve ever had
Never stopped me from giving it another try

Go through laughter, go through tears
From all those days that turn to years
I finally realized

As I grew

All that matters is …

I Go Through

Verse II
I’m looking over scars I’ve earned
But, still glad that I took my turn
I realized you can’t hit a homerun
If you don’t ever take a swing at one

Chorus
Yeah, go good times, go through bad
All the letdowns that I’ve ever had
Never stopped me from giving it another try

Go through laughter, go through tears
From all those days that turn to years
I finally realized

As I grew

All that matters is …

I Go Through

Bridge
My memories remind me
That I’m strong enough
To never give up

Chorus
Yeah,go through good times, go through bad
All the letdowns that I’ve ever had
Never stopped me from giving it another try

Go through laughter, go through tears
From all those days that turn to years
I finally realized

As I grew

Next To You
Mark Lambert, John Williams

Verse I
Riding shotgun next to you, used to be my favorite seat
Made me smile, for a while, thought you were being sweet
Turned on your charm, I went along, ever since we met
Thought we were strong, but I was wrong, now dealing with regret

Chorus I
You kept me next to you, loved to show me off
Like your truck, your boat, your boots, & your prized hunting dog
I was your party doll, your last call, I guess I should be grateful

Cause after all, …………I was your favorite,

Next to you,

Next to you

Verse II
Got a late-night text from my girls, they saw you at the bar
Leaving with a tall brunette, walking her back to her car
You didn’t pretend, just stumbled in, at a quarter past 2
Guess you did me a favor, showing me the real you

Chorus II
You kept me next to you, loved to show me off
Like your truck, your boat, your boots, & your prized hunting dog
I was your party doll, your last call, I should have seen it coming
Cause after all, …………not much lovin’, ………next to you

Bridge
Well, it’s way past time, that I moved on
I had to face the truth
Finally realized, I’ll be just fine
Not being next to you

Chorus III
You kept me next to you, loved to show me off
Like your truck, your boat, your boots, & your prized hunting dog
No more party doll, made your last call, bout time I made you see
You’ve lost it all…………no more me

You’ve lost it all…………no more me

You’ve lost it all…………no more me …..

Lyrics
Roots Are Wings
Mark Lambert, Matt Lipscombe

Verse I
This town used to make me laugh
People spinning their wheels
Going nowhere fast

So I jumped on the highway
Hit that high-rise town
But I felt out of place

Nobody there looks you in the eye
Makes you wonder what they’re trying to hide
Made a lot of money but not a lot of friends
So I came back to see y’all again

Chorus
Roots are wings, if you look at ‘em right
The deeper they go, the higher you fly
Cause the blood that runs red through my veins
Whispers wisdom to this day

You fall down, get back up
That’s how we grew up
Remember God, fight for love

I hear my Grandpa’s voice
When I sing tonight
Roots are wings
If you look at ‘em right

Verse II
Stacking cans on the table
I love this bar
Everybody knows my name

On Saturday we all go fishin’
Those sunsets on the water
I’ve been missing

Mama’s cornbread got me putting on pounds
Preacher’s sermon got this lost sinner found

Chorus
Roots are wings, if you look at ‘em right
The deeper they go, the higher you fly
Cause the blood that runs red through my veins
Whispers wisdom to this day

You fall down, get back up
That’s how we grew up
Remember God
Fight for love

I hear my Grandpa’s voice
When I sing tonight
Roots are wings
If you look at ‘em right

Bridge
I travelled state to state
To find a place where I belong
But my roots were too strong

Chorus
Roots are wings, if you look at ‘em right
The deeper they go, the higher you fly
Cause the blood that runs red through my veins
Whispers wisdom to this day

You fall down, get back up
That’s how we grew up
Remember God, fight for love

I hear my Grandpa’s voice
When I sing tonight
Roots are wings
If you look at ‘em right

Roots are wings

Better
Mark Lambert, Ray Kayanek

Verse I
I bet her apple pie would win
A blue ribbon at the County Fair
Never accepts what has been
She won’t settle for what is there

Hear her say it needs a touch
Of maybe nutmeg or cinnamon
A sprinkle, but not too much
Whatever it takes to get it done

Pre-Chorus
You see, Love comes through
When you take pride in what you do

Chorus
Mama always say, Search for better
Good just ain’t good enough
When working on something you treasure
Shine doing what you love

Go ahead and pat yourself on the back
For where you are today
But keep on searching for what you lack
And try to make it better everyday

Verse II
There’s some lessons in her baking
That I seem to use everyday
Great wisdom for the taking
To make some problems go away

I try to help my neighbor
When I see him in need…..
I’ll step in to do a favor
Cause, I hope it plants a seed

Pre-Chorus
You see, Love comes through
When you take pride in what you do

Chorus
Mama always says, Search for better
Good just ain’t good enough
When working on something that you treasure
Shine doing what you love

Go ahead and pat yourself on the back
For where you are today
But keep on searching for what you lack
And try to make it better everyday

Ain’t Seen Texas Yet
Mark Lambert, Ray Kayanek

Verse I
I was in New York City and a guy was boosting
They had most everything a man could need
Told him I had to disagree
And some day he ought to take a trip with me
Cause,

Chorus
If you ain’t,
Seen the Night parade in San Anton
Tipped your hat to Ol’ Big Tex
Walked in a field of Bluebonnets
Right beside the road
My friend, you ain't seen Texas yet

If you ain’t,
Had Burnt Bean BBQ on your plate
Seen a sunset in Big Bend
Driven for 10 hours straight
And you still ain’t out of state
My friend, you ain't seen Texas yet

Verse II
He said, I once flew into Dallas
Had to spend the night
So, I’ve been there before
Couldn’t find a decent slice
And the restaurant had sawdust on the floor
And I told him you’re missing so much more

Chorus
If you ain’t ,
Seen the Night parade in San Anton
Tipped your hat to Ol’ Big Tex
Walked in a field of Bluebonnets
Right beside the road
My friend, you ain't seen Texas yet

If you ain’t,
Had Burnt Bean BBQ on your plate
Seen a sunset in Big Bend
Driven for 10 hours straight and
You still ain’t out of state
My friend, you ain't seen Texas yet

If you ain’t,
Thought the Cowboy Cheerleaders
Were giving you a wave
Or. grabbed a long neck at Billy Bob’s
And danced the night away
If you think what you’re braggin’ on
Is as good as it gets
My friend, you ain't seen Texas yet

Verse I

This morning the little lady was a bit of a grouch

Could tell she wasn't happy, yeah, she left no doubt

With a bite she asked, "What ya doing over there,

Looking all comfy, in your easy chair?"

I came back with what I thought I should try

"You're probably thinking, I'm just parking my backside

I'm really busy, but since you're asking

This here is what they call ...... multi-tasking

Pre -Chorus

Dippin' my wings, while I'm testing out the beers

Watching 3 games, while cleaning out my ears

Chorus

Like a Race Car Driver, shifting them gears

Or a Jet Pilot, doing Mach 10, showing no fear

Picture me in a helmet and a big ol' fancy suit

I know what you're thinking "He sure looks cute"

And all these skills, based on one thing.....

Yeah, I'm seeing spots in front of me

But I have to say I'm still feeling clever

Cause, I'm working all these buttons and the lever

Picture me in a helmet and a big ol' fancy suit

I know what you're thinking "Boy, he looks cute!"

Such a strong woman, that I hold dear
So much she does for us

Ol’ Soul Lovers

Verse I
We like Friday night candlelight
Chardonnay on ice
We like grilling up steak, a new first date
Setting the mood just right

We like bringing the party to our home
For a party of two
We like a lot of things, Baby
But, this I know is true

Chorus
We love spinning them ol’ soul records in our living room
Playing them on vinyl
Curled up on the couch, girl, me and you
Putting some “me and you” time in

Busting a move, feeling the groove
No way this thing’s brand new
Feels like forever, lifetimes together
Falling in love

Baby, over and over
Like two ol’ soul lovers

Verse II
Two stepping, holding you
Do you get deja vu?
Like we’ve done this, Honey
Maybe a time or two

Romeo and Juliet, Johnny and June
It’s always been me and you
I know that sounds crazy, Baby
But this I know is true

Chorus
We love spinning them ol’ soul records in our living room
Playing them on vinyl
Curled up on the couch, girl, me and you
Putting some “me and you” time in

Busting a move, feeling the groove

Verse I
Mrs Green’s still serving lunch
At my favorite diner
There’s Travis field, I missed that ball
Man, what a shiner

Mark’s Garage is changing tires
Thought by now he would retire
He’s going strong

I hear the bells of St. Mary's Church
Where I learned to pray
I always thought Kallie and I’d
Get married there some day

I tried to leave this place behind
I look around and realize
I can’t forget

Chorus I
It’s in my blood
Like a river deep inside of me, it runs
Through this little town where I grew up
And everybody here I love
Everything that I’ve become
It’s in my blood

Verse II
Momma’s crying on the front porch
Uncle Bo says how ya been?
I sit down in daddy’s old chair
And I remember when
He poured me my first glass of whiskey
Yeah, I thought I was finally ready
To be a man

Chorus II
It’s in my blood
Like a river deep inside of me, it runs
Through this little town where I grew up
And everybody here I love
Everything that I’ve become
It’s in my blood

All the roots are tied together as one
Every generation I came from
Everybody here that I love
Everything that I’ve become
It’s in my blood

Verse III

The nights get long and colder and the lights begin to glow
It’s a timeless celebration, you can feel it everywhere
As the sights and sounds of Christmas, start to echo thru the air

Our 1st home together, our 5th Anniversary

Night out, without, girls just the boys
Making memories of the work week disappear
Soon we, wish we’d made a better choice
Don't take a genius to know what’s missing here

Chorus
It ain’t a beach without the sand
And every dancefloor needs a band
It’s not a ladder without the rungs
What good’s Cancun without the sun?

One thing I'm certain of in this world
It damn sure ain’t a party without girls

Verse II
We talk football, all about our trucks
All those crazy High School memories
But in, the end, this idea sucks
It ain't the same without female company

Chorus
It ain’t a beach without the sand
And every dancefloor needs a band
It’s not a ladder without the rungs
What good’s Cancun without the sun?

Or Buffalo without the wings
Someone call the girls
It's time to start this thing

Chorus
It ain’t a beach without the sand
And every dancefloor needs a band
It’s not a ladder without the rungs
What good’s Cancun without the sun?

One thing I'm sure of in this world
It damn sure ain’t a party without girls

No, it damn sure ain’t a party without girls

Backstory
Many people find stress relief in their boat.
Lyrics
I Got A Boat

Verse I
My job is a pain, another week is draggin’ by
Me and the Missus ain’t seein’ eye to eye
Kids driving me crazy, at the end of my rope
Hitch up my rig, hit the road, my Redneck way to cope

Chorus
Yeah, I got a boat
Twenty-one feet of heaven to me
250 horsepower Mercury
When I throttle up, it sets me free

Yeah, I got a boat
When I get her up on plane
She has a way of easing’ my pain
A healthy dose of blue-water therapy

Know what keeps me afloat?

I got a boat

Verse II
When I pull up on my favorite fishing spot
Shut ‘er down fast, make a cast, pop a top
First tug on my line, my world slows down
Busting Bass, on 10lb test, best fix I ever found

Chorus
Yeah, I got a boat
Twenty-one feet of heaven to me
250 horsepower Mercury
When I throttle up, it sets me free

Yeah, I got a boat
When I get her up on plane
She has a way of easing’ my pain
A healthy dose of blue-water therapy

Know what keeps me afloat?

I got a boat

Bridge
Don’t need no fancy doctors, when I get stressed
Just get me on the water, that’s where I feel best

Chorus (1.5X)
Yeah, I got a boat
Twenty-one feet of heaven to me
250 horsepower Mercury
When I throttle up, it sets me free

Yeah, I got a boat
When I get her up on plane
She has a way of easing’ my pain
A healthy dose of blue-water therapy

Yeah, I got a boat
When I get her up on plane
She has a way of easing’ my pain
A healthy dose of blue-water therapy

Know what keeps me afloat?

I got a boat

Outro
I go a boat

And it’s got me!

Better, Favorite Word

Lyrics
Better

Chorus

Better

Well that was Grandpa’s favorite word

He said I can’t fix the whole dang world

But I can make it better

Bit by Bit

Ya give your time and a lot of care

A touch of hope and some nightly prayers

Lord, he lived it to the letter

He made it so much better

Verse I

I remember one summer Grandpa and me

We set to fixin’ his old truck

We pounded out her dents

And somehow got them gears unstuck

We sanded her down

And we painted her up

We took her for a drive ‘round town

Ah, Man, she looked so good

So much…

Chorus

Better

Yeah, that was Grandpa’s favorite word

He said I can’t fix the whole dang world

But I can make it better

Bit by Bit

Ya give your time and a lot of care

A touch of hope and some nightly prayers

Lord, he lived it to the letter

He made it so much better

Verse II

And Grandpa, he loved showing me

How to play this guitar

And when I play, I’m close to him

Out underneath the stars

Well, the last time we met

We knew his end was near

He told me he’d look in on me

He’d always be right here

I said

You

Chorus

Better

Cause, that was Grandpa’s favorite word

He said I can’t fix the whole dang world

But I can make it better

Bit by Bit

Ya give your time and a lot of care

A touch of hope and some nightly prayers

Lord, he lived it to the letter

He made it so much better

Yeah, he made it so much better

Lyrics
Barefoot State of Mind

Verse I
Another day of fighting traffic
Billboard says”The beach is waiting on you”
My desk is covered in paperwork
And I’m thinking of what I want to do

It’s too late to call in sick
They probably saw me pull up in my car
Sitting here in my parking spot
Wishing I was at my favorite Tiki bar

Pre-Chorus
I close my eyes and I see

Chorus
A warm white sand beach
Me stretching out on my chair
A symphony of rolling waves
Scent of sunscreen in the air

I taste an ice cold beer
Love that hot sun on my face
Not a single cloud in the sky
I’m in my happy place

Far away from the daily grind
I’m in a barefoot state of mind

Verse II
The dang phone is ringing off the hook
Boss is already climbing on my back
Haven’t heard a kind word in a month
This job’s gonna give me a heartattack

Pre-Chorus
I close my eyes and I see

Chorus
A warm white sand beach
Me stretching out on my chair
A symphony of rolling waves
Scent of sunscreen in the air

I taste an ice cold beer
Love that hot sun on my face
Not a single cloud in the sky
I’m in my happy place

Far away from the daily grind
I’m in a barefoot state of mind

Bridge
Thank God for a getaway and a little relaxation
I need me some saltwater salvation
I’m counting down the days
‘Til I can open my eyes and I see

Chorus
A warm white sand beach
Me stretching out on my chair
A symphony of rolling waves
Scent of sunscreen in the air

I taste an ice cold beer
Love that hot sun on my face
Not a single cloud in the sky
I’m in my happy place

Far away from the daily grind
I’m in a barefoot state of mind

I’m in a barefoot state of mind
