About

After chasing my songwriter/performer career living in Nashville in the 1990’s. I chased the girl back home, for 5 years I performed with my 7 piece band in the midest. I married and started a family and strayed away from writing for 20 years.Last year I decided to start again no writing for others instead of myself. It’s opened up an new way of writing for me and I believe I’m writing the best I’ve ever done. Primarily a Country song writer. Hope you enjoy my music

Saltwater & Cedar

Plays: 2
Backstory
Based on real life story of amd old love and remembering the old love through smells
Lyrics
Verse 1

She slid in barefoot, slammed the door
Left half the beach on my truck floor
Hair still drippin’, cut-off sleeves
Bonfire smoke and an ocean breeze

Radio low, county line
She stole a kiss at the yellow light
Said, “Keep driving…”
Couldn’t stop if I tried

Pre-Chorus

One sideways grin
One green light
That’s all it took

Chorus

That summer stayed with me
Long after she’d gone
Her tan lines, that moonlight
Embers glowing till dawn

Every wave says her name
Every breeze brings her near
If Heaven smells like summer
It’d smell like her….Saltwater & Cedar

Verse 2

That old dock still leans the same
Like it’s waiting where she waved
I still catch her perfume
When the tide rolls in too soon

Everybody says move on
But this coast won’t let me
Every sunset finds another way
To bring her back to me

Pre-Chorus

Some things fade
This became
A part of me

Chorus

That summer stayed with me
Long after she’d gone
Her tan lines, that moonlight
Embers glowing till dawn

Every wave says her name
Every breeze brings her near
If Heaven smells like summer
It’d smell like her….Saltwater & Cedar

Bridge

One deep breath…
I’m right back there
Her hand in mine
Then the silence hits

Like she never left

Final Chorus

Saltwater & Cedar
Still hanging in the air
If love leaves anything behind
It’s right there

Every wave still pulls me back
Every memory starts right here
If heaven smells like summer…
It smells like her

You Still Work On Me

Plays: 0
Backstory
Real life experience from my own life and that of close friends. Built the story around that
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I don’t check your page, I don’t drive by
I swear you never cross my mind
I can go out, have a good time
Wake up, don’t wonder where you are
I can hear your name and let it roll
Like a story I don’t have to know
Yeah, I’d say I’ve finally got you beat
Till one little thing gets the best of me

[Pre-Chorus]
Like a song through an open window
Or your hometown on a highway sign
I don’t go looking for you
You just show up sometimes

[Chorus]
You still work on me
Outta nowhere, outta the blue
One little memory
And I’m right back in that room
I can go weeks without missing you
Then one second changes everything
Thought I had myself convinced I’m free
You still work on me

[Verse 2]
Last Friday I was three drinks in
Laughing with my friends, letting whiskey spin
Then a girl walked by wearing your perfume
For a second I was back with you
I didn’t call, I didn’t lose control
Didn’t even let anybody know
But on the drive home I had to face
Some things don’t leave just ’cause you walk away

[Pre-Chorus]
It’s never when I expect it
Never when I’m looking back
It’s always something small
My grip gets tight around the wheel

[Chorus]
You still work on me
Outta nowhere, outta the blue
One little memory
And I’m right back in that room
I can go weeks without missing you
Then one second changes everything
Thought I had myself convinced I’m free
You still work on me

[Bridge]
Maybe that’s what love costs
Maybe that’s the price
You can get your life back
Lose it in one night
You walk in, tuck your hair back
Like you always used to do
My whole chest goes tight
Before I even look at you

[Final Chorus]
You still work on me
Outta nowhere, outta the blue
One little memory
And I’m right back in that room
I can go weeks without missing you
Then one second changes everything
Thought I had myself convinced I’m free
You still work on me

She Makes Bad Idea’s Look Good

Plays: 1
Backstory
Idea came from a old move i watched and the title was a quote , built the song around that
Lyrics
[VERSE 1]
I don’t usually close this bar
Don’t usually stay past ten
Don’t usually let one pretty smile
Talk me into doing it again
But she walked in, looked my way
Like she already knew what I’d say
I had a hundred reasons to go
She only needed one
Then smiled like she knew she’d won

[PRE-CHORUS]
I felt the pull from across the room
Knew exactly what she’d make me do
I saw the trouble in her eyes
Still walked right into it

[CHORUS]
She makes bad ideas look good
Makes “I shouldn’t” sound like “I should”
Turns one drink into staying
Turns “I’m leaving” into “hell, I could”
I know where this road goes
I just like where it starts
She can make a warning sign
Look like something I’d chase in the dark
Yeah, I know better than I should
She makes bad ideas look good

[VERSE 2]
I told myself I’d take it slow
She said, “Since when has that been you?”
Now tomorrow’s got a problem
That tonight don’t give a damn about
My phone says two, I say too late
She says, “Come on,” I say, “Okay”
I know I’ll have some explaining
When the morning light creeps in
I’d probably do it all again

[PRE-CHORUS]
I know exactly what I’m risking
I can feel my good sense slipping
I know how this night ends
Still don’t wanna stop it

[CHORUS]
She makes bad ideas look good
Makes “I shouldn’t” sound like “I should”
Turns one drink into staying
Turns “I’m leaving” into “hell, I could”
I know where this road goes
I just like where it starts
She can make a warning sign
Look like something I’d chase in the dark
Yeah, I know better than I should
She makes bad ideas look good

[BRIDGE]
Maybe I don’t like the trouble
Maybe I just like who I am in it
A little less careful
A little more honest when I’m with her
I’ve spent too much time
Trying to know how every story ends
She don’t promise me forever
She just makes me wanna see what happens next

[FINAL CHORUS]
She makes bad ideas look good
Makes “I shouldn’t” sound like “I should”
Turns one night into staying
Turns “I’m leaving” into “where you headed?”
I know where this road goes
Still don’t wanna slow down
She can make a warning sign
Look like something I’d chase right now
Yeah, I know better than I should
God knows I probably should
But she makes bad ideas look good

[TAG]
Some things ain’t worth doing twice
She’s the reason I don’t mind

She Ain’t Hard To Find

Plays: 0
Backstory
Based on real life experience of missing the real love of your life is right in front of you
Lyrics
[Verse 1]

I spent a lot of Friday nights
Staring at the door all night
One more drink, one more round
Waiting for somebody new
Had a pocket full of numbers
Names I never called again
Kept chasing something different
Everywhere but where I’d been

[Pre-Chorus]

Turns out I was looking too far
For something this close
I kept chasing what I thought I wanted
Till you showed me what I know

[Chorus]

She ain’t hard to find
I was just looking in the wrong places
Running through the night
Past a hundred different faces
She was right here all along
Laughing when I got my words wrong
Making me wonder why I ever took my time
She ain’t hard to find
She ain’t hard to find

[Verse 2]

Now it’s Friday, you’re beside me
Bare feet on the passenger side
Little whiskey in your Coke
Windows down on a backroad ride
You don’t need a big night
Don’t need somewhere dressed up
You make a parking lot feel like
Somewhere I could stay forever

[Pre-Chorus]

Turns out I was looking too far
For something I already knew
I didn’t need another somewhere
I just needed somewhere with you

[Chorus]

She ain’t hard to find
I was just looking in the wrong places
Running through the night
Past a hundred different faces
She was right here all along
Laughing when I got my words wrong
Making me wonder why I ever took my time
She ain’t hard to find
She ain’t hard to find

[Bridge]

I thought love would hit me like a highway sign
Big enough to see from a mile away
Turns out it was your hand in mine
On an ordinary Friday
Nothing flashing, nothing loud
Just you looking at me like
You’d been waiting on me to figure it out

[Final Chorus]

She ain’t hard to find
I was just looking in the wrong places
Running through the night
Past a hundred different faces
She was right here all along
Laughing when I got my words wrong
Making me wonder why I ever took my time
She ain’t hard to find
She ain’t hard to find

Worst Best Thing

Plays: 1
Backstory
A title I’ve had a few years and decided to rewrite for 2026 feel. Also had the guitar lick from my old guitar player we used
Lyrics
My phone still knows your birthday
Throws it in my face every July
My truck takes your exit by itself
Like muscle memory can drive

My buddies swear I won the breakup
Say you did me a favor leavin’
Funny how the people that say that
Ain’t the ones still fightin’ your ghost every evenin’

’Cause you were the worst best thing that ever happened to me
Like a lightning strike in a field full of gasoline
Girl, you burned up every version
Of who I used to be

Yeah, you were goodbye wearin’ blue eyes
A bad idea that felt so right
The kind of hurt I’d sign back up for
A hundred thousand times

If love’s a lesson
Then you’re the reason I believe
You were the worst best thing that ever happened to me

There’s a girl downtown that’s been callin’
She’s everything my mama wants
She don’t disappear for three days
She don’t turn a kiss into a bomb

She’s probably where forever lives
Probably where I oughta be
Still every road that looks like heaven
Somehow circles back to you and me

’Cause you were the worst best thing that ever happened to me
Like a lightning strike in a field full of gasoline
Girl, you burned up every version
Of who I used to be

Yeah, you were goodbye wearin’ blue eyes
A bad idea that felt so right
The kind of hurt I’d sign back up for
A hundred thousand times

If love’s a lesson
Then you’re the reason I believe
You were the worst best thing that ever happened to me

Everybody says I dodged a bullet
Maybe that’s the truth
Still ain’t found another wound
I’d rather have than lose

Yeah, you were the worst best thing that ever happened to me
The best mistake, the best memory
The hardest fall I’ll ever need

Yeah, you were goodbye wearin’ blue eyes
The reason every song I write
Still sounds a little like a Friday night
Before goodbye

If love’s a lesson
Then you’re the reason I believe
You were the worst best thing

Yeah, you were the worst best thing

The worst best thing
That ever happened to me

Written In Every Wrinkle

Plays: 0
Backstory
My wife is always worried as she get older about Wrinkles. “Look at all my wrinkles” I told her they were beautiful and each one has a story and they are the story of us. This is more a traditional country song that I could hear someone like Cody Johnson sing
Hope you enjoy my love story.
Lyrics
WRITTEN IN EVERY WRINKLE

Verse 1

That old oak out behind your daddy’s place
Still’s got our initials cut into the bark
A little taller than it used to be
A few more rings, a few more scars

Back then forever felt a long way off
Now another sunset slips behind the pines
Somehow that tree and us
Been growing all this time

Chorus

Those wrinkles gathered one by one
From every season we’ve come from
From tears and laughter, loss and grace
They left their fingerprints in place

Some folks call ’em signs of age
They’re my favorite thing these days
When I look into your eyes
I see the beauty of our life
Written in every wrinkle

Verse 2

That little house on Maple Street is gone
Still see crayon marks behind the door
Every birthday measured in pencil
Funny how we don’t mark ’em anymore

Never noticed time moving fast
Busy living every day we had
Looking back, I guess those years
Left lines we never saw

Chorus

Those wrinkles gathered one by one
From every season we’ve come from
From tears and laughter, loss and grace
They left their fingerprints in place

Some folks call ’em signs of age
They’re my favorite thing these days
When I look into your eyes
I see the beauty of our life
Written in every wrinkle

Bridge

Now the house gets quiet before midnight
The mirror tells the truth every time
Every line I see on you
Takes me somewhere in our life

Back to that oak behind your daddy’s place
Two kids carving forever in the bark
Neither one of us could’ve known
How beautiful these years would mark our hearts

Final Chorus

Those wrinkles gathered one by one
From every season we’ve come from
From tears and laughter, loss and grace
They left their fingerprints in place

Some folks call ’em signs of age
They’re my favorite thing these days
When I look into your eyes
I see the beauty of our life
Written in every wrinkle

Every laugh, every tear
Every memory still living here
When I look into your eyes
I see the beauty of our life
Written in every wrinkle

Written in every wrinkle

I Don’t Look Good Leavin’

Plays: 0
Backstory
Trying to write a song that may work for Blake Shelton
Lyrics
I DON’T LOOK GOOD LEAVING

Verse 1
I don’t look good leaving—never did
I make it to the porch, then turn back in
Say one more thing I shouldn’t say
Turn one goodbye into three more days
I ain’t built for letting go
Yeah I stay longer than I should, I know

Pre-Chorus
I can see it in your eyes right now
Still ain’t turning around

?

Chorus
I don’t look good leaving
I don’t wear goodbye well
I hang on a little too long
Even when I can tell
It’s already over
Ain’t nothing left to believe in
Yeah maybe I’d be better off
I just don’t look good leaving

?

Verse 2
Same old door, same old scene
Half of you and all of me
Standing there like we don’t know
Exactly how this thing goes
I find a reason not to go
Even when it’s already gone

Pre-Chorus
Yeah I know how this plays out
Still ain’t walking out

?

Chorus
I don’t look good leaving
I don’t wear goodbye well
I hang on a little too long
Even when I can tell
It’s already over
Ain’t nothing left to believe in
Yeah maybe I’d be better off
I just don’t look good leaving

?

Bridge
It ain’t the leaving that gets me stuck
It’s who I am when you’re not around
I ain’t scared of that empty drive
I’m scared of me when you’re not around

?

Final Chorus
I don’t look good leaving
I don’t wear goodbye well
I hang on a little too long
Even when I can tell
It’s already over
Ain’t nothing left to believe in
Yeah maybe I’d be better off
I just don’t look good leaving

He’d Be A Small Town

Plays: 0
Backstory
Was inspired after listening to Tucker Wetmore.
Had the title and melody for awhile and decided to write the lyrics to support the title

100 percent human lyrics and melody. Ai used to build the demo around my original work
Lyrics
HE'D BE A SMALL TOWN
Verse 1
I got real good
At saying, “I’m fine.”
He’d smile like he knew
That line wasn’t mine.
Never tried to fix me,
Never tried to move on.
He just stayed long enough
For my walls to come undone.

Pre-Chorus
I thought home
Was a place you found.
Then he loved me
Like I’d always been around.

Chorus
He knows my story before I tell it,
Still reaches for my hand.
He knows every road that broke my heart,
Still loves me where I am.
Some people spend forever hoping
Someone will love them clear through.
If home ever had a heartbeat…
He’d be a small town.

Verse 2
He’ll wait in the driveway
Just to finish one more thought.
Makes a Tuesday night
Feel like something you can’t buy.
He remembers little promises
I forgot I ever made.
Looks at me
Like nothing good has gone to waste.

Pre-Chorus
Every almost.
Every goodbye.
Every mile I couldn’t name…
Led me
To the rest of my life.

Chorus
He knows my story before I tell it,
Still reaches for my hand.
He knows every road that broke my heart,
Still loves me where I am.
Some people spend forever hoping
Someone will love them clear through.
If home ever had a heartbeat…
He’d be a small town.

Bridge
Not everybody knows you.
Somebody does.
Not every street feels familiar.
Just one pair of eyes
That never makes you earn
The right to be loved.
That’s home.

Final Chorus
He knows my story before I tell it,
Still reaches for my hand.
He knows every road that broke my heart,
Still loves me where I am.
Some people spend forever hoping
Someone will love them clear through.
If home ever had a heartbeat…
He’d be a small town.
Every prayer I never prayed…
Was answered in him.

Nothing Between Here And You

Plays: 5
Backstory
A title I’ve had for awhile and melody and finished it after listening to Matt’s songs.

Human lyrics and melody so Assis for demo production from original melody
Lyrics
Verse 1
Backed out slow before daylight,
Didn't trust the rearview mirror.
Some goodbyes get smaller with distance...
Yours just got clearer.
Pre-Chorus
Every green sign said keep going.
Every mile agreed.
A heart can stay behind...
When the wheels don't.
Chorus
Thought enough road...
Could change enough.
There ain't nothing between here and you.
Not these county lines.
Not another town to drive on through.
Every mile just brings me back
To the part I can't undo.
Been looking for a place
Where missing you don't make it through...
There ain't nothing...
Between here and you.
Verse 2
Rearview caught my eyes again.
Truth is...
Couldn't hold the stare.
Hands keep finding fourth gear,
Yours still isn't there.
The only place I couldn't outrun
Was the man in this seat.
Miles change the view.
They don't change me.
Chorus
There ain't nothing between here and you.
Not these county lines.
Not another town to drive on through.
Every mile just brings me back
To the part I can't undo.
Been looking for a place
Where missing you don't make it through...
There ain't nothing...
Between here and you.
Bridge
Blamed your leaving.
Blamed bad timing.
Blamed every road
That led somewhere else.
Then the silence
Finally said
What I'd been too proud to.
Outro
There ain't nothing between here and you.
Never was.
Not these roads.
Not these miles.
Not the life I've been running through.
Spent all this time
Waiting on distance
To do what I should've done...
The only thing
Between here and you...
...is me.
If there's a way back...
It starts with one turn.

Me

Verse 1

Every little town’s got somebody talking,
A smile like yours don’t stay a secret long.
Girl at the diner smiles when you walk in,
Looks at me and grins.
Says, “Boy, don’t you let her get away…”
Like I needed telling anyway.

Pre-Chorus

I never found a four-leaf clover,
Never wished on every star.
Turns out the best thing in my whole life
Showed up right where you are.

Chorus

Everywhere we go, somebody says,
“Man, how’d you ever win her heart?”
I just grin, put my arm around you,
‘Cause I wouldn’t know where to start.
Turns out forever finds some people…
This time, forever found me.
If this is what lucky looks like…
Lucky looks good on me.

Verse 2

You make Friday nights disappear on backroads,
Sunset fading, still not heading home.
You can turn a ride across town
Into the long way home.
It’s amazing what love can do—
Make a nowhere road feel like home.

Pre-Chorus

I quit looking for the answers,
Quit wondering how it all came true.
Some things don’t happen every day…
Some things just happen to you.

Chorus

Everywhere we go, somebody says,
“Man, how’d you ever win her heart?”
I just grin, put my arm around you,
‘Cause I wouldn’t know where to start.
Turns out forever finds some people…
This time, forever found me.
If this is what lucky looks like…
Lucky looks good on me.

Bridge

They see the way you laugh at my bad jokes,
The way you still reach for my hand.
Maybe that’s the only proof they need
To understand.

Final Chorus

Everywhere we go, somebody says,
“Man, how’d you ever win her heart?”
I just smile, pull you a little closer,
‘Cause that’s been my favorite part.
Turns out forever finds some people…
This time, forever found me.
If this is what lucky looks like…
Lucky looks good on me.

Tag

Yeah… every day you’re choosing me.
Lucky looks good on me.

Wearing White Again

Plays: 0
Backstory
A high school friend of mine lost her husband doing an unexpected work accident 4 years ago.
She’s been posting about a relationship she found again and he proposed . She said she never expected to find a second amazing love, and that she will never forget how her first husband had taught her how to love.
So I wrote this as a song of finding amazing love a second time .
Lyrics
Verse 1

I quit catching bouquets

Stopped staying for the dance

Started thinking once forever

Was all I’d ever get

When people asked, I’d smile and say,

“I’m doing fine this way.”

Never dreamed these broken plans

Would lead me here today

Pre-Chorus

Then you reached and took my hand

Like it had always been

Chorus

If you’d told me I’d be wearing white again

I’d have smiled and shook my head

Thought forever only happened once

That’s what I believed back then

Hope don’t always knock…

Sometimes it walks right in

Love never asked me to stop loving him

Never thought I’d be wearing white again

Verse 2

Now this old house has laughter

Coming through the open door

Turns out love can find your heart

When you’re not looking anymore

Some memories still find me

Some always will

Now they make me thankful

More than standing still

Pre-Chorus

Now every step beside you

Feels like it always did

Chorus

If you’d told me I’d be wearing white again

I’d have smiled and shook my head

Thought forever only happened once

That’s what I believed back then

Hope don’t always knock…

Sometimes it walks right in

Love never asked me to stop loving him

Never thought I’d be wearing white again

Bridge

The best thing he ever gave me

Was a heart that still knew how to love

Maybe that’s what forever means

When love is always enough

Final Chorus

If you’d told me I’d be wearing white again

I’d have smiled and shook my head

Thought forever only happened once

That’s what I believed back then

Hope don’t always knock…

Sometimes it walks right in

Love never asked me to stop loving him

Never thought I’d be wearing white again

Holding On To Holding You

Backstory
After studying the songs of Tucker Wetmore , I was inspired to come up with a title and hook that would fit him along with other artist in 2026

The title popped in my head and the rest was carefully written to support the title

The melody and lyrics are human and the track was built and tailored around the original melody
Lyrics
Verse 1
I don't take the long way home these days
Don't slow down when I pass your road
Your number's buried where I left it
And I quit waiting on it to
Everybody says I'm doing fine
Guess from where they're standing, I do
They don't see the miles between moving on…
And missing you
Pre-Chorus
I've let go of almost everything…
Chorus
It ain't your goodbye that's breaking me now
It ain't wishing you still wanted me too
It's the way your hand fit into mine
Like that's what these hands were made to do
Love can end, and time moves on
Hearts learn how to make it through
These hands still speak a language only you knew
I'm just holding on to holding you
Verse 2
I don't catch myself saying your name
Near as much as I used to do
But every now and then this old world
Finds another way to bring me back to you
It's never the big things anymore
It's the little ones that leave me bruised
The empty space beside my hand
Still reaches for you
Pre-Chorus
Maybe that's what healing is…
Lift Chorus
It ain't your goodbye that's breaking me now
It ain't wishing you still wanted me too
It's the way your hand fit into mine
Like that's what these hands were made to do
I'm just holding on to holding you
Bridge
Maybe time can teach these hands
How to hold somebody new
Tonight they only know one language
And every word still sounds like you
Final Chorus
It ain't your goodbye that's breaking me now
It ain't praying somehow you come through
It's these empty hands reaching out
For something they can't hold onto
Tonight these hands still speak a language only you knew
I'm just holding on to holding you
Holding on…
To holding you.

Backstory
Started out to write a more gimmicky song with a woman looking at a guy and telling him he isn’t any Superman.
But as I wrote the song I found that you can find strength in yourself if you are in love and loved by your perfect mate.

So used subtle references that the listener would understand
Lyrics
Lois Lane

Verse 1
You could tell by how I shut the door
It’d been one of those days
You turned the TV down a little
Didn’t need me to explain
Couple minutes you’d look over
“Talk now… or in a little while?”
Somehow you always know the difference
Between my silence and my smile

Pre-Chorus
You don’t rush the hard parts
You just stay

Chorus
You make the hard days feel less heavy
Without even trying to
You always know when to hold me close
When to give me room to breathe
You never call it loving me
It’s just what you do
Sometimes I catch myself
Feeling a little like Lois Lane

Verse 2
Used to need somebody else
To tell me I belonged
Then you loved me long enough
I finally proved me wrong
Now I don’t back down so easy
Or doubt what I can be
Turns out loving somebody good
Changes everything I see

Pre-Chorus
You never once said, “I’ve got this.”
You just always did

Chorus
You make the hard days feel less heavy
Without even trying to
You always know when to hold me close
When to give me room to breathe
You never call it loving me
It’s just what you do
Sometimes I catch myself
Feeling a little like Lois Lane

Bridge
Walked back to the bedroom
Looking for my phone
There was your faded red T-shirt
Thrown across the bed

I just stood there smiling…

Outro
Sometimes I catch myself
Feeling a little like Lois Lane

Sometimes I catch myself
Feeling a little like Lois Lane

Never Made The Picture

Plays: 0
Backstory
A song after seeing everyone taking pictures and how they never missed any shot. But growing up with no phones and rarely a camera around ,how many pictures were missed. That’s the story of this song
Lyrics
NEVER MADE THE PICTURE

VERSE 1

Mama’s got a box full of photographs
Stacked in the closet from way on back
Birthday parties, Christmas mornings, county fair rides
A whole lotta life

There’s one of me in my little league hat
One of Grandpa teaching me how to cast
But looking back now, the things I remember most
Ain’t the ones that got froze

PRE

Funny how a camera can save a day
And still let the best parts slip away

CHORUS

We got the sunsets, got the ballgames
Got the birthday candles and the last names
Got a thousand memories sitting in our phones
Trying to hold on before they’re gone

But the ones I go back to when I need ’em
Ain’t the ones hanging on the wall where I can see ’em
Funny how the memories that hit you the hardest
Are the ones that never made the picture

VERSE 2

Dad was teaching me to drive that old truck
One hand on the wheel, one hand on luck
No camera rolling when he said, “Son, take your time”
But I still hear that line

Friday nights parked around a tailgate
Talking ’bout dreams we were all gonna chase
Nobody thought to stop and take a shot
Of what we thought we’d never lose

PRE

Funny what stays with you through the years
And what disappears

BRIDGE

Now I’ve got a little girl riding on my shoulders
And every day it feels like she gets a little older
I catch myself reaching for my phone again

Then I put it down

And hold on to the moment I’m in

FINAL CHORUS

We got the sunsets, got the ballgames
Got the birthday candles and the last names
Got a thousand memories sitting in our phones
Trying to hold on before they’re gone

But the ones she’ll talk about when she’s older
Might not be the ones I ever put in a folder
Funny how the memories that hit you the hardest
Are the ones that never made the picture

TAG

Yeah, life don’t always wait for a camera

Some of the best memories never made the picture

?? PROBABLY HER ??

?

Verse 1

My boys been asking
What’s gotten into me

Why I ain’t raising hell
Every Friday of the week

Why I’m checking my phone
Like it owes me something

Why I’m smiling at nothing
When it starts buzzing

?

Chorus

Why’d I leave that party early?

Probably her

Why’d I change my whole weekend?

Probably her

Why’s her name the only one
I wanna see light up?

Why am I acting like somebody
That I swore I’d never be?

Everybody wants to know

What’s got me this gone?

Probably her

?

Verse 2

Mama says she’s noticed
I ain’t been myself

Yeah, she’s right
But she don’t know the half

I’ve been counting down hours
Watching that clock move

Like a fool trying to play it cool
With something to lose

?

Chorus

Why’d I leave that party early?

Probably her

Why’d I change my whole weekend?

Probably her

Why’s her name the only one
I wanna see light up?

Why am I acting like somebody
That I swore I’d never be?

Everybody wants to know

What’s got me this gone?

Probably her

?

Bridge

Got my friends all betting
I won’t make it through the night

Without bringing her up
At least a couple times

I keep trying to change the subject

But somehow every road
Leads right back to her

?

Final Chorus

Why’d I quit running circles?

Probably her

Why’d I finally slow down?

Probably her

Why’s everything I never wanted
Looking pretty good right now?

Why’d forever stop sounding
Like something I could live without?

Everybody wants to know

What’s got me this gone?

What’s got me holding on?

Probably her

?

Outro

Lyrics
?? CAUGHT ME IN 4K ??

?

Verse 1

My buddy hit pause on a Friday night
Pointed at the screen
Said, “You spend half your life pretending
You don’t know what this means.”

There I was
Looking at the door
Like you were already there
Then fixing my hat
For no good reason
When you weren’t even aware

He said,
“Man, if this ain’t falling hard
I don’t know what is.”

?

Chorus

Yeah, they caught me in 4K
Caught me in 4K
Frame by frame giving me away
The way the whole room disappears
Soon as you walk in

Yeah, they caught me in 4K
Caught me in 4K
Everybody saw it clear as day
I was the last one to know

Yeah, they caught me in 4K

?

Verse 2

Somehow I know your coffee order
But forget why I walked in

Know exactly which song you’ll skip
Before it gets to the end

I save you the seat beside me
Without thinking twice

And every little thing I called coincidence
Starts looking different tonight

Now I get why my friends
Been laughing this whole time

?

Chorus

Yeah, they caught me in 4K
Caught me in 4K
Frame by frame giving me away
The way the whole room disappears
Soon as you walk in

Yeah, they caught me in 4K
Caught me in 4K
Everybody saw it clear as day
I was the last one to know

Yeah, they caught me in 4K

?

Bridge

Then you looked at me
Looked at the screen
Looked back at me
And smiled

Said,
“So that’s why your friends keep staring.”

I tried to come up with something
But I couldn’t

The case was closed

?

Final Chorus

Yeah, you caught me in 4K
Caught me in 4K
Every little tell giving me away
Every way my heart
Was leaving tracks

Yeah, you caught me in 4K
Caught me in 4K
The whole town had it figured out
Way before I did

I spent all this time
Calling it nothing
When it was everything

Girl, you caught me in 4K
Yeah, you caught me in 4K

Dallas, I've Got a Problem
Curtis Flint
Verse 1
Friday night, killin’ time
Scrollin’ through a dating app
One had cufflinks, one had camo
Guess which one I doubled back
One said, “Wine and downtown views”
One said, “Meet me by the lake”
Mama would’ve picked the first one
Before she even saw his face
Chorus
Dallas, I’ve got a problem
My mama loves one, I want the other
One looks good in a family picture
One looks good pullin’ me under
I oughta pick the safe bet
Lord knows that’s what I’d do
But I keep swipin’ right on wrong
And endin’ up on you
Dallas, I’ve got a problem
Verse 2
One’s got pictures on a golf course
One’s got mud on his tires
One talks about investments
One talks about a bonfire
One looks good in a profile
One looks good in my head
And every time I think I’m settled
I go changin’ it again
Chorus
Dallas, I’ve got a problem
My mama loves one, I want the other
One looks good in a family picture
One looks good pullin’ me under
I oughta pick the safe bet
Lord knows that’s what I’d do
But I keep swipin’ right on wrong
And endin’ up on you
Dallas, I’ve got a problem
Bridge
Maybe I’m supposed to want the safe one
The one with every future planned
But every road keeps leadin’ me
Right back to that backwards cap
Final Chorus
Dallas, I’ve got a problem
My mama loves one, I want the other
Thought I had it figured out
Till you walked in wearin’ that smile
I oughta pick the safe bet
Lord knows that’s what I’d do
Turns out all this swipin’ right
Was just leadin’ me to you
Dallas, I’ve got a problem
Yeah, boy, it’s lookin’ like you

I Saw The Little Things

Plays: 0
Backstory
I wrote this last year and decided to bring back and rewrote chorus , this is how I see my wife , what I love about her the most
Lyrics
Verse 1

First time I saw her on that park bench

Traffic rolling by on Main Street

Watching an old man hold his wife’s hand

Like they were still seventeen

Wind kept blowing hair across her face

She’d smile and tuck it back again

Everybody else was passing through

She was taking it all in

I stopped and said

“Most folks would’ve missed all that”

She looked up and laughed

Like nobody’d ever noticed that

Chorus

I saw the little things

The way she’d stop and watch the world spin

Like she had nowhere else to be

Watched those old folks holding hands

Like an answer to a prayer she’d prayed

Everybody saw a pretty girl

Sitting there

I saw the little things

The little things nobody else did

Somewhere along the way

She could tell

I saw the little things

Verse 2

First sneeze always caught her by surprise

Second one made her laugh

By the third one she’d look over at me

Waiting on me to laugh back

When something heavy crossed her mind

She’d get quiet for a minute

One night she smiled and asked me

“How do you notice all this stuff?”

Almost told her

“Because you look at the world like I do”

Just pulled her close instead

And let the evening settle in

Chorus

I saw the little things

The way she’d stop and watch the world spin

Like she had nowhere else to be

Watched those old folks holding hands

Like an answer to a prayer she’d prayed

Everybody saw a pretty girl

Sitting there

I saw the little things

The little things nobody else did

Somewhere along the way

She could tell

I saw the little things

Bridge

Maybe beautiful gets lonely too

When everybody sees the outside

Funny how the whole world noticed her

Nobody noticed what made her smile

Final Chorus

Now it’s her hand wrapped up in mine

Walking past that same old park bench

An old man and his wife passed by

And she squeezed my arm

Wind blew hair across her face

She smiled and tucked it back again

Right there beside her

I fell in love all over with

The little things

The way she sees the good in people

The way she slows this whole world down

Yeah, she could tell

I saw the little things

Backstory
Based on events from my life, how one woman influenced a lot of things in my life
Lyrics
KEPT MORE YOU THAN ME

Verse 1
I don’t reach for you like I used to
Leave my phone face down at night
Still catch myself driftin’ through habits
I know ain’t mine alone
Take your way around that stoplight
Didn’t even think twice
Heard your words come out my mouth
In a way that sounded right

Chorus
You didn’t take it all when you disappeared
Yeah, I’m still runnin’ on somethin’ you left here
It’s in the way I order what you used to drink
Take a turn I never used to think
Say things I swore I’d never say out loud
Still hear you in me now
Girl, you’re gone, that much is clear
I kept more you than me

Verse 2
I still park a little further over
Like you hated door dings bad
Keep the radio on that station
Even when the song ain’t landin’
Catch myself slowin’ conversations
Draggin’ words like you would do
People say I seem more patient lately
Guess I kept more you than me

Bridge
I thought time would square me up
Put me back where I began
Turns out I kept the pieces
That don’t fit who I am

Final Chorus / Outro
You didn’t take it all when you disappeared
Yeah, I’m still runnin’ on somethin’ you left here
It’s in the way I order what you used to drink
Take a turn I never used to think
Say things I swore I’d never say out loud
Still hear you in me now
Girl, you’re gone, but somehow here
I kept more you than me
Kept more you than me
Yeah, somewhere along the way
I kept more you than me

Lyrics
Verse 1

There was a night I packed a duffel bag
Halfway out the driveway, foot on the gas
Had a hundred reasons not to stay
Couldn’t think of one good reason back then anyway
Thought about givin’ up on everything
A couple times more than I’d ever say
Turns out a little distance now
Makes those old mistakes look different somehow

Pre-Chorus

Thank God the worst ideas I ever had
Stayed ideas

Chorus

Glad I didn’t leave when leavin’ would’ve been easy
Glad I didn’t run when runnin’ crossed my mind
Glad I didn’t trade tomorrow for a temporary feelin’
‘Cause everything I prayed for showed up right on time
If I’d done half the things I almost did
I would’ve missed this life I’m livin’
Lookin’ around tonight
Man, I’m glad I didn’t

Verse 2

Would’ve missed that little hand in mine
Would’ve missed a front porch Friday night
Would’ve missed the friends that never left
The ones who showed up when I was at my worst
Would’ve missed the peace I finally found
After all those years of chasin’ loud
Turns out what I needed most
Was waitin’ where I almost wasn’t

Bridge

A few more miles
A few more drinks
A few more bad decisions
And who knows where I’d be
Yeah, that’s the scary thing

Final Chorus

Glad I didn’t leave when leavin’ would’ve been easy
Glad I didn’t run when runnin’ crossed my mind
Glad I didn’t trade tomorrow for a temporary feelin’
‘Cause everything I prayed for showed up right on time
If I’d done half the things I almost did
I would’ve missed these arms I’m holdin’
Missed these stars tonight
Man, I’m glad I didn’t

Outro

Yeah, lookin’ back now
Man, I’m glad I didn’t

I believe she will connect and be able to feel the emotion . Song is 100 percent original melody and lyrics , Ai was used to build the demo only
Lyrics
Mama kept an envelope
Tucked behind the flour tin
For the months that lasted longer
Than the money coming in

She’d say, “Baby, some folks take
Till there ain’t nothing left to take”
Back then I thought she meant the world

Turns out she meant heartbreak

I was always the one staying
Long after I should’ve gone
Finding reasons to keep fixing
What was already broken wrong

You knew exactly where my soft spots were
Leaned on every one
The people I hurt myself to help
Were the ones that hurt me most

They spent my kindness
Like it wasn’t mine

Like another two a.m. rescue
Wouldn’t cost me every time

Every tear
Every second chance
Every “please don’t leave”

They spent my kindness

But they couldn’t spend me

I remember pulling over
On the shoulder in the rain

Realizing being lonely
Beat being lonely with your name

When I look in the mirror now
I don’t see that broken girl

I see every hard decision
Got me where I stand

Damn near spent my whole life
Trying to save everybody else

They spent my kindness
Like I’d never run dry

Like there’d always be another piece of me
To give away for free

Every prayer
Every benefit of doubt

They spent my kindness

But they couldn’t spend me

They got the best of what I gave

But they couldn’t spend me

Mama kept an envelope
Tucked behind the flour tin

I finally know

What she meant

Lyrics
ALL SUMMER LONG

Verse 1

You were brushin’ off the sand when the sunset hit
Thumb on your phone, watchin’ time slip by
You paused when our song came driftin’ down the shoreline
Like the night had a say on your goodbye

Pre-Chorus

You said you should go, you’re still smilin’
Like you’re waitin’ on a reason to stay

Chorus

Stay all summer long, don’t let this feelin’ move on
Radio still playin’, we ain’t done flirtin’ yet
Girl right here’s where you belong
Halfway gone, still hangin’ on
If goodbye’s comin’, it’s takin’ too long
So stay… all summer long

Verse 2

Windows down, your hair blowin’ wild in the wind
Salt air still hangin’ around
You say “this is it,” don’t sound like it
Like you’re hopin’ I might change your mind

Pre-Chorus

We both know where this could go
If I step in close, take it slow

Chorus

Stay all summer long, don’t let this feelin’ move on
Radio still playin’, we ain’t done flirtin’ yet
Girl right here’s where you belong
Halfway gone, still hangin’ on
If goodbye’s comin’, it’s takin’ too long
So stay… all summer long

Bridge

One more “don’t go” you don’t mean
One more ride, blame it on me
One more “this ain’t like me” line
You say that every time

Final Chorus

Stay all summer long, let the speakers drag it on
Let the world wait outside that door
We ain’t gotta call it off
We’ve been right here before
If goodbye’s comin’, we’re holdin’ it off
So stay… all summer long

Why You Tryin’ To Be Me

Plays: 0
Backstory
Writing songs for female artist and my 21 year old daughter told me the story of a jealous friend and it came together
Lyrics
Verse 1

You liked a picture from a year ago
Had to do some digging for that one
I only know ’cause it popped back up
Honestly it made me laugh some

Then you started showing up
Everywhere I used to be
Same boots
Same bar
Same Friday night stories

What are the odds of that?

Pre-Chorus

Maybe it’s random
Maybe it’s not
Maybe I just notice things
Most people don’t

Chorus

You can keep him
Keep tracing lines I already drew
Keep chasing every little thing
You think made him fall for me
Keep telling everybody
He’s the best thing you’ve ever seen
If you’re everything you think he needs
Why you tryin’ to be me?

Verse 2

You know my dog’s name somehow
You know where I spend my Friday nights
You liked a comment on a video
Before I even saw the thing

Same caption I used last summer
Showing up under your selfies now
Still somehow you always seem to know
What’s going on with me right now

Pre-Chorus

Maybe you’re happy
Maybe it’s real
Maybe I’m reading way too much
Into how all this feels

Chorus

You can keep him
Keep tracing lines I already drew
Keep chasing every little thing
You think made him fall for me
Keep telling everybody
He’s the best thing you’ve ever seen
If you’re everything you think he needs
Why you tryin’ to be me?

Bridge

You can have his last name
His side of the bed
Just seems like somebody that happy
Wouldn’t live inside my head

Final Chorus

You can keep him
Keep the pictures
Keep the captions
Keep tracing lines I already drew
If it helps you sleep at night
Keep telling everybody
Everything’s going just right
If you’re everything you think he needs
Why you tryin’ to be me?

Why you tryin’ to be me?

Hard Not To

Plays: 0
Backstory
Studied Ella Langley Songs and tried to write in the dandelion album lane
Lyrics
I told myself slow down
Don’t go gettin’ carried away
It’s just a couple nights out
A couple texts every day

Ain’t like I ain’t been here before
Know exactly how this goes
That’s what I keep tellin’ myself

But Lord knows

Pre-Chorus

You walk in
Smile like that
What am I supposed to do?

Chorus

It’s hard not to
Look for your truck in every parking lot
Hard not to
Check my phone every time it lights up

Hard not to hear your name
In every plan I’m makin’
Hard not to let my heart
Get a little ahead of the truth

Hard not to fall
When you make it look that easy to

Verse 2

Mama caught me starin’ out the window
Halfway through washin’ dishes
Asked me where I disappeared to
I said nowhere, she said “mm-hmm”

My friends don’t even ask no more
They just grin when your name comes up
Like they’ve known since day one
What I’m still denyin’

Pre-Chorus

You don’t even know you’re doin’ it
That’s the dangerous part

Chorus

It’s hard not to
Look for your truck in every parking lot
Hard not to
Check my phone every time it lights up

Hard not to hear your name
In every plan I’m makin’
Hard not to let my heart
Get a little ahead of the truth

Hard not to fall
When you make it look that easy to

Bridge

I ain’t moved a toothbrush in
Or cleared out closet space
Ain’t left no key up on the counter
Or a picture in a frame

But if you asked me where this goes
I don’t know what I’d say

‘Cause every day it’s gettin’
A little harder not to

Final Chorus

It’s hard not to
Leave a little room on my side of the bed
Hard not to
Replay every goodbye you’ve said

Hard not to picture
A life that looks a lot like you
Hard not to let my heart
Get a little ahead of the truth

Hard not to fall
Hard not to want to

When you make it look that easy to

Yeah, you make it look that easy to

Lyrics
THROUGH THEM HANDS

Verse 1

Diesel stains on granddad’s hands
Half-moon scars and cane field tan
Knuckles like gravel, veins cut deep
Forty years missin’ sleep
Counted every dollar twice
Still gave the church a little Friday nights
Didn’t talk much, never had to
You knew the man by what those hands could do

Chorus

Them hands fixed fences, factory lines
Folded in prayer every supper time
Held my mama when the world got hard
Picked me up when I fell apart
Kept me steady down county roads
Worked night shifts in wore-out boots
Mine look more like his these days
Guess good men never leave
They live on in them hands

Verse 2

Daddy’s hands wore wedding gold
Burn marks from steel he’d hold
Chevrolet grease beneath the nails
Made every little league game somehow
Taught yes sir, taught no ma’am
Shake a hand like you mean I am
When he cried by grandma’s stone
First time those hands weren’t strong

Chorus

Them hands fixed fences, factory lines
Folded in prayer every supper time
Held my mama when the world got hard
Picked me up when I fell apart
Kept me steady down county roads
Worked night shifts in wore-out boots
Mine look more like his these days
Guess good men never leave
They live on in them hands

Bridge

Last week my little boy reached up
Wrapped his fingers around my thumb
Hit me hard standing in that church
Four generations still at work

Final Chorus

These hands changed tires in pouring rain
Held your dress on our wedding day
Carry my babies, carry this name
Try damn hard to hold that weight
When my time comes down the line
Hope some part of me survives
In dirt beneath nails and a wedding band
That’s how a good man lives on
Through them hands

Your The Only Road

Plays: 0
Lyrics
Verse 1
I was good at leaving before it got real
Kept everything moving so nothing could stick
Changed up the story depending the night
Said I was fine, kept rewriting the line

Every door felt easier halfway closed
Every “almost” never got close
Had it down to a rhythm I couldn’t outrun
Till you made still feel like somethin’ I want

?

Chorus
You’re the only road / I don’t wanna / outrun
Everything before you just blurred into one
You quiet the noise without sayin’ a word
Turn chaos to calm just standin’ nearby

You’re my “don’t think twice,” my “stay all night”
No second guess, no need to decide
For once I’m not reaching past what I’ve got
You’re the only road / I don’t wanna / outrun

?

Verse 2
I don’t check the distance when I’m with you now
Don’t feel that pull to be somewhere else
Time don’t slip through my hands when you’re here
It stays where it lands, I don’t fight it

Used to hold back like it might fall through
Now I say things before I overthink truth
There’s a version of me I don’t recognize
He’s not lookin’ for exits, he’s finally inside

?

Chorus
You’re the only road / I don’t wanna / outrun
Everything before you just blurred into one
You quiet the noise without sayin’ a word
Turn chaos to calm just standin’ nearby

You’re my “don’t think twice,” my “stay all night”
No second guess, no need to decide
For once I’m not reaching past what I’ve got
You’re the only road / I don’t wanna / outrun

?

Bridge
I don’t brace for the fall like I did before
Don’t look for a reason to want something more
There’s nothing pulling me out of the room
For the first time, I don’t assume

?

Final Chorus
You’re the only road / I don’t wanna / outrun
Everything before you just blurred into one
You quiet the noise without sayin’ a word
Turn chaos to calm just standin’ nearby

You’re my “don’t think twice,” my “stay all night”
No second guess, no need to decide
I’m done lookin’ past what’s right in front of me
You’re the only road / I don’t wanna / outrun

Lyrics
Verse 1
Coffee hit my brand-new shirt
Truck won’t start, that’s how it works
Dog chewed up my favorite boots again
Mama called, “Your cousin’s here.”
Guess who’s staying half the year?
I just smiled and counted to ten

Pre-Chorus
Seems like every time the sky turns gray
You just laugh and say…

Chorus
Thank God you’ve got a boat
‘Cause here comes another wave
Every time life rocks my world
You keep us both afloat
I bring the thunder, you bring the calm
Somehow we always make it home
Baby, if you’re gonna love this girl…
Thank God you’ve got a boat

Verse 2
Burned the biscuits, lost my keys
Bought two left shoes by mistake this week
Yeah, that’s pretty much on brand for me
Then the power flickered out
Rain came pouring all around
You just grinned like it was meant to be

Pre-Chorus
Everybody else runs for the shore
You pull a little closer

Chorus
Thank God you’ve got a boat
‘Cause here comes another wave
Every time life rocks my world
You keep us both afloat
I bring the thunder, you bring the calm
Somehow we always make it home
Baby, if you’re gonna love this girl…
Thank God you’ve got a boat

Bridge
One day we’ll laugh about every storm
Tell our kids how we weathered ‘em all
Turns out forever ain’t finding sunshine
It’s finding somebody who don’t mind the rain

Final Chorus
Thank God you’ve got a boat
Still riding every wave
Wouldn’t trade this crazy life
For calm on any day
You keep believing, I keep believing too
A little faith goes a long way through
If heaven ever sent me one little sign
It looked a whole lot like that boat
Thank God you’ve got a boat

HE’S EVERYBODY’S TYPE

Verse 1

He walks in…
Bartender’s pourin’ his bourbon before he says a word.
Half the room’s already fixin’
Hair that didn’t need fixed.
Your best friend’s whisperin’,
“Oh my God…”
Girl…
Just give it a minute.

Pre-Chorus

He ain’t yours…
He just ain’t got around to mine yet.

Chorus

He’s everybody’s type.
Little buzz, little blue eyes.
Little “let me get that”
Every Friday night.
Every mama loves him.
Every ex says, “He’s alright.”
If you think you’re different…
Girl, stand in line.

He’s everybody’s type.

Verse 2

He’ll remember your birthday,
Forget he told three girls the same joke.
Leave his hoodie in your backseat,
Disappear like cigarette smoke.
You’ll call it bad timing.
I’ll call it déjà vu.

Don’t take it personal…
He’s just really good at what he do.

Chorus

He’s everybody’s type.
Front porch, first kiss,
“I’ve never felt this” type.
Makes red flags look
White under neon lights.
Everybody thinks
They’re gonna change his mind.
Girl, we all tried…

He’s everybody’s type.

Bridge

One day
Some girl’s gonna break his heart
With his own damn playbook.

I’ll buy the first round.

Final Chorus

He’s everybody’s type.
Till somebody’s finally his.
Funny how the tables turn
When forever finally sticks.
Till then,
Save yourself a Saturday night.

He’s everybody’s type.

Pre-Chorus

She’d probably laugh…
If anybody told her.

Chorus

She don’t even know it…

She’s why “I was just gonna have one”
Turns into “Make mine another.”
Why the band’s packing up
Then plays one more for the summer.

She’s why nobody’s watching the clock,
Why goodbye takes all night long.

She ain’t trying to make a memory…

She just walks in and one happens.

She don’t even know it.

Verse 2

She thanks the waitress by her first name
Tips before she gets the change
Asks you how you’ve really been
Then actually waits

She ain’t working on forever
She ain’t trying to steal the scene
She’s just being who she’s always been…

That’s the part nobody sees.

Pre-Chorus

If she could see herself
Through everybody else’s eyes…

She’d never believe it.

Chorus

She don’t even know it…

She’s why “I was just gonna have one”
Turns into “Make mine another.”
Why the band’s packing up
Then plays one more for the summer.

She’s why nobody’s watching the clock,
Why goodbye takes all night long.

She ain’t trying to make a memory…

She just walks in and one happens.

She don’t even know it.

Bridge

Tomorrow she’ll wake up

Thinking it was just another Friday.

Everybody else…

Will remember exactly where she smiled.

Final Chorus

She don’t even know it…

She’s why this old bar feels brand new,
Why every song sounds like your favorite.
Why leaving turns into lingering,
Why “see ya” turns into staying.

She’ll never call herself unforgettable…

She’ll never have to.

She ain’t trying to make a memory…

She just walks in and one happens.

No…

She don’t even know it.

ME, YOU, AND A LITTLE WHITLEY

Written by: Curtis Flint (BMI)
Original Lyrics & Melody

?

Verse 1

Same old bar, you pulled me in
“We’re stayin’ for one more song”
I didn’t know that throwaway line
Would take me back that night
Bar room dance, Friday night
I just watched you come alive
“Miami, My Amy” playin’ low
You pulled me out on the floor
That’s how friends turned into more
Spinnin’ circles, wantin’ more

Chorus

It was me, you, and a little Whitley
Boots on wood, swingin’ easy
“Don’t Close Your Eyes” playin’ low
Felt like love was all we’d know
Our first kiss when “You Said Nothing at All” came on
Time stood still, right or wrong
Yeah, love showed up right on cue
Me, you, and a little Whitley tune

?

Verse 2

We two-stepped through real life
Good days, long nights
Every turn felt right at home
Long as we were holdin’ on
“Somebody’s Doin’ Me Right” played
Through broke-down weeks and bills unpaid
Hard times came, hard times bent
Still spinnin’ strong through it all

Chorus

It’s been me, you, and a little Whitley
Holdin’ tight, holdin’ steady
“Don’t Close Your Eyes” still plays
Like it did that first night
Our first kiss when “You Said Nothing at All” came on
Still feels true, still feels strong
Yeah, love stayed simple, love stayed true
Me, you, and a little Whitley tune

?

Bridge

When the overtime ran out
Winter crept in through the door
We danced slow in that old kitchen
Radio hummin’ us back once more
He sang it plain, he sang it real
Some songs teach you how to feel
We learned love the honest way
One slow dance at a time

Final Chorus

It’s been me, you, and a little Whitley
Every spin, every year
Same old bar, fuller hearts
Still dancin’ right here
“When You Said Nothing at All” still plays
Still says everything we do
Yeah, forever sounds just like this
Me, you, and a little Whitley tune

Outro / Ad-lib

Mmm… don’t close your eyes
Yeah… don’t close your eyes
Me… you… and a little Whitley tune

That Kitchen Chair

Backstory
Based on a true story from my own life. Objects around and how simple things hold so much meaning
Lyrics
Verse 1

Still cooked like you were coming home
Two plates down, one getting cold
Left your glass right where it was
Like you’d walk in and pick it up
Never pulled your chair back in
Like you’d need it one more time
Maybe you’d walk back in again

Pre-Chorus

First it was one night, then a couple more
Then I stopped listening for that door

Chorus

That kitchen chair don’t get pulled out like it used to
Don’t hear it slide across the floor at 6:02
It used to hold you, now it just holds me
Right there where we used to be us
I kept thinking you’d come back and sit down
Even this house quit waiting too
That kitchen chair never did

Verse 2

Stopped setting your place at night
Stopped leaving on that extra light
Your side’s pushed in, don’t lean no more
Ain’t angled like it was before
Didn’t know quiet got that loud
When it’s something you don’t expect
Now it’s just wood and empty space
Where you used to take your place

Pre-Chorus

Ain’t a sound, ain’t a trace

Chorus

That kitchen chair don’t get pulled out like it used to
Don’t hear it slide across the floor at 6:02
It used to hold you, now it just holds me
Right there where we used to be us
I kept thinking you’d come back and sit down
Even this house quit waiting too
That kitchen chair never did

Bridge

I don’t even notice it some nights
That’s what scares me the most
How something that felt like my whole life
Turns into something I don’t hold
It ain’t just that you left—it’s how everything stayed

Final Chorus

That kitchen chair just sits there like it’s always been
Like it don’t know you ain’t walking in
It used to hold you, now it just holds me
Right there where we used to be us
Yeah I swore this house would always be ours
Now it’s quiet in all the loud parts
Even I quit waiting too
That kitchen chair never did

Outro

That kitchen chair never did

Lyrics
Just Us Again

Verse 1

You said my name from the kitchen
It echoed down the hall
We stood there laughing at nothing
Just listening to the quiet fall
Thirty years of running wide open
Scared we’d miss a step
Now it’s just us in the stillness
Finally catching our breath

?

Pre-Chorus

Somewhere the years ran past
While we were building something that lasts

?

Chorus

Now it’s just us again
Like it was way back when
Before the ballgames, silver braces
Wiping tears from little faces
They found their wings, they took their flight
Handed us back our Friday nights
Yeah, it went too fast, I know it did
But it led me right back here to you
Darlin’, if this is how the sunset begins
You can count me in
Yeah, it’s just us again

?

Verse 2

Dinner for two, take our time
A table for more than just passing by
That old loveseat feels brand new
Like the first night I sat next to you
No checking phones, no losing sleep
Just remembering how to be “we”

?

Pre-Chorus

The clock keeps ticking on the wall
But we ain’t in a hurry at all

?

Chorus

Now it’s just us again
Like it was way back when
Before the ballgames, silver braces
Wiping tears from little faces
They found their wings, they took their flight
Handed us back our Friday nights
Yeah, it went too fast, I know it did
But it led me right back here to you
Darlin’, if this is how the sunset begins
You can count me in
Yeah, it’s just us again

?

Bridge

We didn’t lose ourselves along the way
We just put love on hold for yesterday
Now the house is quiet, and the moment’s right
For you and I

?

Final Chorus

Yeah, it’s just us again
Like it was way back when
Before the ballgames, silver braces
Wiping tears from little faces
They found their wings, they took their flight
Handed us back our Friday nights
Yeah, it went too fast, I know it did
But it led me right back here to you
Darlin’, if this is how the sunset begins
You can count me in
Yeah, it’s just us again

THE BEST THING I BROKE
Written by Curtis Flint

You were leaning on the jukebox laughing
Neon tangled in your hair
Every voice inside that crowded room
Disappeared when you were there
I was good at leaving early
When a line ran close to home
You were steady as a slow chord ringing
I was a high string wound too strong
I’ve walked away from better things
Than a man like me deserved
Left a trail of almost-forevers
In the wake of reckless words
Of every line I crossed back then
There’s one I feel the most
Too late, too close
You were the best thing I broke
You were patience on a quiet evening
I was restless in my bones
You were building something lasting
I kept turning it to smoke
Every promise that you painted
Faded where my shadow fell
Funny how the one who held me up
Is the one I dropped as well
I’ve walked away from better things
Than a man like me deserved
Left a trail of almost-forevers
In the wake of reckless words
Of every line I crossed back then
There’s one I feel the most
Too late, too close
You were the best thing I broke
Somebody else is hearing
The laugh I used to know
Funny how losing you
Finally made me grow
And every mile that passes
Every closing neon glow
Still brings me back to the truth
I’ve walked away from better things
Than a man like me deserved
Left a trail of almost-forevers
In the wake of reckless words
Of every line I crossed back then
There’s one I feel the most
Too late, too close
You were the best thing I broke

I DON’T CALL YOU ANYMORE

[Verse 1]
Your name don’t light up like it used to
Don’t catch myself reachin’ for my phone
That late-night “just one more time”
Ain’t somethin’ I lean on

I still pass that exit sometimes
But I don’t slow down like before
Funny how a habit fades
I don’t call you anymore

[Pre-Chorus]
It didn’t happen all at once
Didn’t hit me like goodbye
Just somewhere between movin’ on
And not needin’ you some nights

[Chorus]
I don’t call you anymore
Don’t hover on your name in my phone
Don’t count down every midnight
Wishin’ you’d come home

I ain’t sayin’ I don’t miss you
I just don’t miss you like before
Yeah, that’s the part that gets me
I don’t call you anymore

[Verse 2]
That bar we used to close down
Ain’t got the same pull these days
Your song came on last Friday night
I didn’t walk away

I stayed right there and let it play
Didn’t hit me like it did before
Guess time does what it does
I don’t call you anymore

[Pre-Chorus]
It ain’t that I don’t think of you
I just don’t reach for you like I used to

[Chorus]
I don’t call you anymore
Don’t hover on your name in my phone
Don’t count down every midnight
Wishin’ you’d come home

I ain’t sayin’ I don’t miss you
I just don’t miss you like before
Yeah, that’s the part that gets me
I don’t call you anymore

[Bridge]
If I’m bein’ honest
It ain’t losin’ you that’s hard
It’s wakin’ up and not reachin’
Like I don’t know where you are

[Final Chorus]
I don’t call you anymore
Don’t even think about it now
Ain’t fightin’ every second
Tryin’ to turn around

I ain’t sayin’ I don’t miss you
I just don’t miss you like before
Yeah, that’s the part that gets me
I don’t call you anymore

[Outro]
I don’t call you anymore

Backstory
This is the most powerful emotikn driven song I’ve written , I had the opening guitar lick for a few years and finally lived the experience to write the song
Lyrics
I lost my job down at the factory
Wife packed up — walked out on me?Kids don’t call, truth be told? I can’t recall my last good meal
Stack of bills I ain’t opened yet?Truck broke down, nights full of regret?
But there’s a fire burnin’ deep inside? It might get rough — but I’ll survive

(Chorus)
I fell on hard times?Yeah, life cut deep
But I’m still standin’ on two tired feet?Mama always told me? God won’t give more than a man can handle
I fell on hard times, but I’m still alive?A little broke down, but I still got pride?when I hit rock bottom, I climb right back
I fell on hard times…….

(Verse 2)?Cold nights, cheap coffee, worn-out boots?Ain’t got much — just the honest truth
But every sunrise, I get one more try?hope don’t quit — it just hides sometimes

(Bridge)
Yeah, someone out there’s got worse than me?I thank the Lord for what strength I keep?I’ll hold my head high through the darkest night?I’m beat, not broken — and I’ll be alright

(Chorus)
(Fade)

Lyrics
VERSE 1

Everybody knows why she left
Small town, small talk, big regrets
I still hear her name at the county line
Like a warning sign I can’t outrun
I was twenty-something going on dumb
Thought love would wait while I figured me out
She gave me every chance a man could need
I gave her every reason to leave

PRE-CHORUS

Now there’s nowhere left to hide
When everybody watched me lose her

CHORUS

This town remembers who I was
Every damn mistake I made
They know the man who broke her heart
They watched me throw it all away
I can’t change what they talk about
Can’t unsay what I’ve done
But if she ever hears my name again
I hope she hears I’ve become
The man this town remembers different

VERSE 2

I stopped blaming Friday nights
Stopped blaming whiskey, stopped blaming life
Started showing up when I said I would
Started doing things a grown man should
Funny how a mirror gets clearer
When there’s nobody left to impress
I ain’t trying to make her come back
I’m just trying to deserve what I had

PRE-CHORUS

Now there’s nowhere left to hide
When everybody watched me lose her

CHORUS

This town remembers who I was
Every damn mistake I made
They know the man who broke her heart
They watched me throw it all away
I can’t change what they talk about
Can’t unsay what I’ve done
But if she ever hears my name again
I hope she hears I’ve become
The man this town remembers different

BRIDGE

If she never comes back, that’s my cross
Some lessons don’t come without a loss
But I swear if she ever looks my way
She won’t see the man she walked away from that day

FINAL CHORUS

This town remembers who I was
But that’s not who I am today
Yeah, they know the man who broke her heart
But they’re watching him change
I can’t rewrite yesterday
Can’t undo what I’ve done
But if she ever hears my name again
I hope she hears I’ve become
The man she always knew I could be
The man this town remembers different

Tumbleweed & Gasoline

Plays: 0
Backstory
Wrote this one from the story of a friend and his eventual wife when I heard someone said they were like tumbleweed amd gasoline.
Lyrics
Verse 1

She looked at you
Then looked at me.
Rang us up
Without a word.

Said, “Y’all be careful…”

Like she’d watched
A hundred stories…

Start this way.

You said,
“Which road don’t have a reason?”

I said,
“The one we’re on.”

You climbed in
Without looking back…

Like the road had said your name.

?

Pre-Chorus

Heads kept turning
As we rolled through…

One just smiled…

Like he’d seen
This kind of fire before.

?

Chorus

You don’t throw a match
At tumbleweed and gasoline.

One keeps chasing wind…
One’s just waiting on a spark.

Everybody saw the smoke
Before we ever saw the flame.

They called it a bad idea.
We called it coming home.

The wind don’t care what oughta be.
Neither did we.

You don’t throw a match…
At tumbleweed and gasoline.

?

Verse 2

Every little town
Had somebody watching.
Every little town
Had somebody sure.

They all spoke
Like tomorrow
Was something they owned.

We just kept driving
Past county lines…
Leaving yesterday
Where it belonged.

The map stayed folded.
The tank stayed full.

You quit searching
For somewhere to go.

I quit searching
For someone to be.

?

Pre-Chorus

Maybe they saw the fire…

They just never knew
What it could become.

?

Chorus

You don’t throw a match
At tumbleweed and gasoline.

One keeps chasing wind…
One’s just waiting on a spark.

Everybody saw the smoke
Before we ever saw the flame.

They called it a bad idea.
We called it coming home.

The wind don’t care what oughta be.
Neither did we.

You don’t throw a match…
At tumbleweed and gasoline.

?

Bridge

Years from now
They’ll tell the story…

Like we never had a choice.

Truth is…

We just believed
Our own hearts

More than
Anybody’s voice.

?

Final Chorus

You don’t throw a match
At tumbleweed and gasoline.

One keeps chasing wind…
One’s just waiting on a spark.

Everybody saw the smoke
Before we ever saw the flame.

They called it a bad idea.
We called it coming home.

The wind don’t care what oughta be.
Neither did we.

I’d strike that match…

Every time.

For tumbleweed…

And gasoline

Real life experience
Lyrics
[VERSE 1]
Your suitcase sat packed by the front door
You were leaving Sunday, heading west
I was one night from signing that lease
On a place I couldn’t afford yet
Then your sister called, said, “Don’t go home”
My boss called, said, “Start Monday instead”
Two calls changed the plans we had
Put us both where neither planned to be

[PRE-CHORUS]
Bad when it doesn’t go our way
Never know what one night can rearrange

[CHORUS]
Good things take bad timing
Take a little showing up late
Take a few plans falling through
Till you find what you weren’t looking for
I thought every no was costing me time
Every wait was wasting mine
Didn’t know the days I couldn’t stand
Were leading me to your side
Good things take bad timing

[VERSE 2]
You were late the night we met for dinner
Your car quit two blocks from the place
Borrowed your roommate’s old sedan
Came through the door with rain on your face
You said, “Sorry, did I miss our table?”
I said, “No,” and pulled the chair out wide
We talked until they stacked the glasses
Then you asked if I’d see you another night

[CHORUS]
Good things take bad timing
Take a little showing up late
Take a few plans falling through
Till you find what you weren’t looking for
I thought every no was costing me time
Every wait was wasting mine
Didn’t know the days I couldn’t stand
Were leading me to your side
Good things take bad timing

[BRIDGE]
If that lease had worked, I’d never stayed
If your car had started, you’d have driven away
If we’d gotten what we wanted that night
We’d have missed the one thing we got right

[FINAL CHORUS]
Good things take bad timing
Take a little showing up late
Take a few plans falling through
Till you find what you weren’t looking for
I thought every no was costing me time
Every wait was wasting mine
Didn’t know the days I couldn’t stand
Were leading me to your side
Good things take bad timing

[TAG]
That suitcase never made it west
Guess it had somewhere better to be

I Blame Her

Plays: 0
Lyrics
[VERSE 1]

I was halfway home when my phone lit up
That half-full glass and “come by” lit up
I turned that wheel like I knew the way
How a good plan changes shape
She said, “Come by, I won’t keep you long”
Playing dumb while that engine’s running
I should’ve kept driving, I know
But I ain’t never been that good at no

[PRE-CHORUS]

She’s got a way of making
Bad timing feel right
I know exactly what I’m doing
Every time I stay tonight

[CHORUS]

I blame her
For the keys I left on the counter
Another three hours I didn’t have
One kiss turns into forever
When I know damn well it won’t last
Yeah, I could’ve said no
Could’ve turned around
Could’ve been halfway home by now
But if you ask me why I’m still here
I blame her

[VERSE 2]

She don’t pull me closer, I just lean in
She don’t say forever, I just hear it
She don’t make promises she can’t keep
I just keep finding reasons not to leave
There’s a side of me that knows better
There’s another one that knows her better
Every time those two collide
Guess which one gets the keys tonight

[CHORUS]

I blame her
For the keys I left on the counter
Another three hours I didn’t have
One kiss turns into forever
When I know damn well it won’t last
Yeah, I could’ve said no
Could’ve turned around
Could’ve been halfway home by now
But if you ask me why I’m still here
I blame her

[BRIDGE]

Truth is, she ain’t holding me
I leave my jacket on her chair
If I really wanted out
I’d be gone before it got dark
So call it what you want
I know what I’d call it
I just like having somebody
Yeah, I blame her when I fall in

[FINAL CHORUS]

I blame her
For the keys I left on the counter
Another three hours I didn’t have
One kiss turns into forever
When I know damn well it won’t last
Yeah, I could’ve said no
Could’ve turned around
Could’ve been halfway home by now
But if you ask me why I’m still here
I blame her

She ain’t making me stay
I just like blaming her

[VERSE 1]

I tell my buddies I don’t miss you
Staring at the bottom of a plastic cup
Then I take the long way past your exit
Like my truck don’t know the way back yet

I keep your number buried in my phone
Under a name I know I’ll never call
Still reach across the bed at 2 AM
Like my hands forgot you left at all

[PRE-CHORUS]

I can keep my mouth shut
I can play it cool
Make a stranger think
I’m finally bulletproof
But she knows every tell
I can’t keep from showing

[CHORUS]

She knows me by heart
Knows the truth behind my “I’m alright”
Knows I’ll leave that kitchen light burning
Like I’m leaving the door open all night
She knows every crack in my armor
Every place this pride falls apart
I can make this whole damn town believe me
But she knows me by heart

[VERSE 2]

She knows I turn the radio down
When our song comes on, I let it play
Knows I still order what she used to drink
Then stare at it till the ice melts away

She knows I sleep on the right side
Her pillow still holds the shape of her
Knows when I say, “I’m doing better”
I get real quiet after I say it

[PRE-CHORUS]

I can change the subject
I can change the room
Swear I don’t still love her
Like I almost believe it’s true
But she knows every tell
I can’t keep from showing

[CHORUS]

She knows me by heart
Knows the truth behind my “I’m alright”
Knows I’ll leave that kitchen light burning
Like I’m leaving the door open all night
She knows every crack in my armor
Every place this pride falls apart
I can make this whole damn town believe me
But she knows me by heart

[BRIDGE]

That’s the part that gets me
She never needed me to say it
She could hear it in the truck door
The second that I slammed it

She knows the man behind the man
Everybody thinks they know
And if she called me right now…

She’d know before I said hello

[FINAL CHORUS]

She knows me by heart
Knows the truth behind my “I’m alright”
Knows I’ll leave that kitchen light burning
Like I’m leaving the door open all night
She knows every crack in my armor
Every place this pride falls apart
I can make this whole damn town believe me
I can fool myself for a little while
But she knows me by heart

Yeah, she knows me by heart
That’s what I can’t outrun

Good At Pretending

Lyrics
[VERSE 1]

I got a talent for disappearing
When something starts feeling real
I can turn a green light yellow
Before you know what I feel
I can make a night look harmless
Make a kiss sound like a joke
I can leave before the leaving
So I never have to know

[PRE-CHORUS]

Yeah, I know how to keep a little distance
Know exactly when to pull away
Funny thing is, every time I do it
I end up wanting you to stay

[CHORUS]

I’m good at pretending
I don’t want what I want
Good at turning a spark into nothing
Before it gets too hot
I can make myself believe
I’m better off alone
I’m good at pretending
Right up till you get me alone
Then every little lie I tell myself
Falls apart when you get close
Yeah, I’m good at pretending
But I’m not that good with you

[VERSE 2]

I know how to change the subject
When you ask what’s on my mind
I know how to leave a little mystery
Like I’m doing just fine
I can tell you I don’t do forever
Like that’s some kind of truth
But I don’t scare easy
I just scare easy when it’s you

[CHORUS]

I’m good at pretending
I don’t want what I want
Good at turning a spark into nothing
Before it gets too hot
I can make myself believe
I’m better off alone
I’m good at pretending
Right up till you get me alone
Then every little lie I tell myself
Falls apart when you get close
Yeah, I’m good at pretending
But I’m not that good with you

[BRIDGE]

Maybe I don’t need saving
Maybe I don’t need a sign
Maybe I’m just scared of finding
Something I don’t wanna leave behind
So if you ask me if I’m falling
I’ll probably say I don’t know
But if you ask me if I want you
Baby, I think you already know

[FINAL CHORUS]

I’m good at pretending
I don’t want what I want
Good at turning a spark into nothing
Before it gets too hot
I can make myself believe
I’m better off alone
I’m good at pretending
Right up till you get me alone
Then every little lie I tell myself
Falls apart when you get close
Yeah, I’m good at pretending
But I’m not that good with you

[TAG]

No, I’m not that good with you
Maybe that’s the truth
