Why do you write songs?
From fingerpainting in kindergarten to drawing pictures in grade school, art was always my creative center. All the while, I was listening to pop radio at my Mom's house and country music at my grandparents' farm in the summer. In junior high, I still did art but slowly added more musical activities. In high school, I finally put aside art and turned to music: writing, singing, and playing originals and cover songs. After several bands - and girlfriends - and college - and marriage, music remains a large part of my life. In 1995, I quit my band and returned to songwriting. It sure ain't for the money, 'cuz I was earning more $ with the band. Ah the life of a songwriter! Thank God I got a day gig - and a wife - that lets me do this!
Who are your main influences?
My songwriting influences include the Beatles, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams, ZZ Top, Tom Petty, Jimmy Buffett, and Harlan Howard. I also enjoy Jeffrey Steele's songwriting abilities and compositions.
