Courses and mentoring
sessions
All-Access Full Membership at SongU.com includes unlimited access to all our courses developed specifically for online study with our
faculty of award-winning songwriters. Taking online
courses is both easy and convenient with two distinct online course formats
to best meet your needs:
- Do-It-Yourself (DIY) courses are available 24 hours
a day, 365 days a year and are designed for flexible learning at your
own pace. Our 100-level DIY courses focus on craft fundamentals and
essential review, while 200 and 300-level courses provide topics for
additional growth as a songwriter. Most DIY Courses are made up of 4-6
lessons which include interactivities and exercises. Incorporate the
concepts you have learned into your new songs and bring them to an
instructor-led feedback workshop for further insights.
Try our DIY
course, MUS 130 Musical Elements Of A Successful Song.
- Instructor-led courses and small-group mentoring sessions
meet in our voice-enabled online e-Classrooms where you will be
able to interact in real-time with SongU.com
instructors and peers. The majority of our courses are
one-hour workshops which focus on providing song feedback or a specific songwriter
related topic. However, we also offer several multi-meeting courses that
span two or more weeks. No matter what your schedule is, you should be
able to find course times that are convenient for you. However, if you
cannot attend a class at the scheduled time, you have the option of
auditing a class and listening to the transcript at your convenience. Our
e-Classrooms are simple to use and no special equipment such as a mic or
webcam is required in order to attend.

from an instructor-led class, LYR 251 Successful Lyric Writing II, week one (Adobe Flash Player
required).

Pitching opportunities.
No screeners. No barriers. No additional cost.
All-Access SongU.com Full Membership includes our regulard pitching
opportunities for no additional cost. At SongU.com, our guiding philosophy is
education. We believe that pitching is part of the educational process
in that it gives you real world experience in the music industry.
However as anyone who works in the music industry knows, you should be
prepared for rejection. This is why we ask our members to run their
songs by our feedback instructors and coaches to make sure they are the
best they can be before demoing and pitching them. Continually working
to improve both your craft and your songs is what will ultimately
improve your chance of success. We believe this is the reason why so
many
members
of SongU.com have been successful with pitching.
Here are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about our pitching program at
SongU.com.
- Who are the SongU.com pitch guests? Guests will
represent a variety of musical genres and outlets that songwriters
normally pursue to have their songs heard. Among the guests will be A&R
representatives from major record labels, producers, music publishers,
independent songpluggers, managers, music supervisors, major label and
independent artists. View our current pitching opportunities.
- How do the pitching opportunities work? SongU.com
offers several pitch opportunities that are updated each month. Details
about each opportunity will appear in "My Pitching" area of the website
after you login. Note that each pitch opportunity will have a maximum number
of songs that you may submit as well as a submission deadline (except for
on-going pitches).
- Am I ready to pitch songs? We do ask all members to
take the responsibility to make sure each song is as strong as possible
prior to demoing and pitching it. At SongU.com we provide the means to do
that by encouraging all members to take courses
to improve their craft. We also provide regular feedback and mentoring
sessions where members can bring their work tapes and demos to ensure the
song is ready to be pitched. When you song is
demoed and ready, you can submit your mp3’s and lyrics directly to our listings to
publishers, music supervisors, artists, producers, and others.
