Course Description
Based on the best selling book by SongU.com faculty emeritus Sheila Davis, Successful Lyric Writing: A Step-By-Step Course and Workbook, you will put lyric writing craft into practice. Guided by a SongU.com instructor in our e-Classroom, you will learn the principles and techniques covered in the first part of this book. Through group discussion, individually assigned exercises and feedback, you will be guided toward improving your lyrical craft. Please note: There is an assignment from the textbook due before the first class meeting. Please post the solutions to the exercises in your backpack to "bring" to class. If you haven't used the locker/backpack feature yet, you will find that it is a very “user-friendly” page. Just go to “My Locker”, choose ADD a new file (please clearly title each exercise in your locker) and submit. Select the items from your locker that you want to put in your backpack and VOILA! -it will be ready for class. The classroom will already have your backpack link listed so we can click on it to see what's inside.

Course Content
Topics to be covered include: essential lyric framework and form, managing viewpoint and time frame and avoiding common pitfalls. Students who register for this course will be given assignments based on specific topics in the book.
