“True happiness comes from the joy of deeds well done, the zest of creating things new.” - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Hi everyone,

Hope you've all had a good week. For those of you who are curious, we did manage to do our hot air balloon ride last weekend to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary (a gift courtesy of Sara's parents). It was a great ride and we all enjoyed seeing the hill tops, tree tops, deer, rabbits and cows from a bird's eye view. We did have an interesting landing to say the least because we were running out of green space to land and getting a little close to Nashville Airport Airspace. But our daughter, Mia, now has a very cool story to tell her friends about we crash landed in someone's backyard ;-)

Got Business, Publishing, Songwriting Questions? FDBK 385 Has the Answers
There are still seats available for this week's FDBK 385 - Business and Publisher Q/A  (listed in the Music Business section of the catalog). This unique Q&A session is not a song craft feedback session. Rather it is designed so you can bring your business, publishing, songwriting, or any music industry related questions to class and have them answered. Just put the questions in your backpack or bring them to class and industry veteran Bob Dellaposta aka "Professor Bob" (who also happens to teach music publishing classes at a local college) will answer them in the FDBK 385 e-Classroom. Registration is limited to 15 and the class is always entertaining and informative. You will find the upcoming session which takes place this week listed in the Business section of the SongU.com Catalog.

Record Producer Jeff Silverman In The House
We've got a special guest lined up for this Thursday 7/29 at 9pm ET.
Veteran producer, engineer, songwriter, accomplished musician and singer, Jeff Silverman will be on campus for a Q&A. Jeff's been a staff songwriter at Motown/Stone Diamond Music. His most recent release, March 2010 on Frontiers Records, is entitled "From The Vault" (A Collection of works by Jeff Silverman and Rick Springfield). Jeff is currently producing and co-writing with Michael Peterson, Lea Sweet and Dion Pride. During his long career, he has collaborated with a number of artists including: Rick Springfield, Nick Gilder, Debra Lyn, Aeone, Brenda K. Starr, Chico and Bunny Debarge, Tim Weisberg, Jackie Graham, and B.J. Thomas. In addition to his credits for engineering on the Emmy Nominated "MISTS OF AVALON," Jeff has mixed, mastered and edited for artists such as: Charice, Boyz to Men, David Cassidy, George Clinton, Paula Abdul, Prince, Richard Marx & Barbara Streisand, Stephen Bishop, and Tim Weisberg. It should be a great chat. Hope to see you there.

As always, there are plenty of small-group feedback and mentoring sessions registering and running throughout the week. So jump into one to have your questions answered or get insights from the SU faculty on your latest and greatest creation. To register for any of these courses or one of the upcoming Feedback and Mentoring Sessions, see the Course Catalog after you login at www.SongU.com.

Composing Opportunity
In case you missed it last week, we're passing along this information for a friend of SongU.com who is trying to launch her own business of producing promotional videos for hotels and resorts. She is looking for composers to create music for several of the videos she has filmed for her sample reel. The music should fit the vibe of the hotel/resort of each video. There is no upfront payment for the music. Her goal is that her sample reel will bring in video production clients who will pay the composer (on the composer's own terms) for their promotional videos. If you are interested in finding out more details, contact Diana at diana@thinkbirdieproductions.com.

Ok, that's all for now. Have a great week. See you "on campus" ;-)
