Backstory:
This was the first time Dan and I ever got together for a co-write (we've since written about 80 songs over the past couple of years together). He had this cool idea of a song about a tapestry. As he read what he had already written I thought it could be cool to compare the tapestry to a relationship. And off we went.

Hanging By A Thread

Verse:
There’s a tapestry that hangs behind the window
Of the brownstone house that survived the civil war
Of a chestnut tree bloomin’ in the spring time
Catchin all the rain from a chilly April storm
PreChorus:
The people as they pass
Press their face against the glass
For the woven thing of beauty on the wall
Chorus:
But what no one knows, And what no one see’s
The trouble of this picture perfect scene
The stitches frayed It’s about to break
From all the years of hardship and neglect
Just like you and me, it’s hangin’ by a thread
Verse 2-
Beneath that tree you’ll see the two lovers
Holding on, safe from an angry sky
You can see the lightning, almost hear the thunder
And you wonder if the needle missed the tears in their eyes
Bridge-
All our friends see what we want them to see
But when you pull back the curtain
We’re just two people hurtin
But what no one knows, And what no one see’s
The trouble of this picture perfect scene
Two hearts frayed, we’re about to break
From all our years of hard ship and neglect
Just you and me - hangin by a thread
