    Backstory:
From Brent Cobb: For those fans that don't remember back nearly a quarter-century or perhaps you're just not old enough to know: In the fall of 1991, my little sister Johanna Raymond led the Pennfield Panthers to a state football championship (with the help of a few other cheerleaders and of course, the football team!) I don't remember the exact score of the big game in the Pontiac Silverdome, I do remember a Jason Livengood interception run-back from the end zone for a 100+ yard touchdown run, the final score was less than a touchdown difference and Negaunee was driving from midfield when the clock ran out. Sophie Miriam. I remember Jill's Jill Ann Petersen dad and a Negaunee dad had a friendly bet, corn flakes vs. iron pellets (or something like that), what the heck did we do with all those pellets? I was a track coach at the time. My mom Sue Johnson once said, "burglars could've robbed all of Pennfield that day because everyone was in Pontiac for the game!" ANYWAY- Pennfield won, next season eventually came, we all went to all the games again, all the way to the state semi-final game, which James Leo Oliver quotes, "on a cold and windy day..." - was an understatement! It was downright wicked cold!! I remember a scoreless halftime, and Art slipping on a banana peel or the outcome may have been different, there were 21 guys in a pile and he had the sweep around the left side to the promised land, darn banana! wink emoticon Now, 23 years later, I'm happy that this saga ended the way it did, it has molded a whole community into the way it views winning AND losing. Not to mention, winning back-to-back titles would have made those senior's heads WAY too big for my track team the next Spring! This song is about that game, the day that glorious 14 1/2 month fairy tale came to an end. (let me get some "likes" so that I know who I'm reaching!)

    Lyrics:

Thanks To You I drove my son to the high school, On a cold and windy day, His mind was on the last football game, He was ever going to play, His team had lost all season, But they wouldn’t give up yet, I said boy watch that knee, I’m proud of you, This is a day I won’t soon forget. The game was tied at halftime, And I sat worried in the stands, Wondering what would I tell his teammates, If I had the chance, I’d say you guys may not be winning, But the clock ain’t run out yet, Keep in mind it’s just a game, We love you just the same, And fellas don’t forget. That thanks to you we’ve poured our hearts out, Every Friday night, Your family and friends have prayed and cheered for you, Yelling fight team fight, It really doesn’t matter if you win or lose, What matters most lies beyond the goal post, We all owe our thanks to you. My son walked slowly from the lockers, His eyes were down and his head was bent, He cried and said I tried dad, I gave a hundred percent, I held him tight and whispered in his ear, Son I know you did your best, You bring such joy into my life, Son don’t ever forget. That thanks to you we’ve poured our hearts out, Every Friday night, Your family and friends have prayed and cheered for you, Yelling fight team fight, It really doesn’t matter if you win or lose, What matters most lies beyond the goal post, We all owe our thanks to you.
