Backstory:
I wanted to write a song for my Daughter for her upcoming wedding. I labored over a direction to go and then decided on a duet...her talking to him/him talking to her. This song was inspired by the way they look at each other and how they inter-act. Of all the songs I've written, I'm most proud of this one, for obvious reasons. Who gets a song from their Dad for their wedding? I poured my heart and soul into it. I gave it to them as a gift at the rehearsal dinner and then had it played again at the wedding. They loved it.
Lyrics:
MY EYES
(female)Two years ago on New Years Eve
When I first saw you baby, my heart skipped a beat
Amongst the crowd, it was clear to me
That you had to be the one, cuz you’re the only one I see
(female)Now my arms only reach for you
My heart only beats for you
(And) deep down in my soul
You’re the missing part that makes me whole
And now the only thing I know, is
My eyes, my eyes. Only see you
(male)It didn’t take me long … to realize
Tha-at you were everything I’ve wanted all my life
Took your hand and asked … will you marry me?
Now when I close my eyes at night, you’re the only one I see
(male)And my arms only reach for you
My heart only beats for you
(And) deep down in my soul
You’re the missing part that makes me whole
And now the only thing I know, is
My eyes, my eyes. Only see you
(male) You’re so stunning in your white gown; it’s like I’m in a dream.
(female) The church is packed from pew to pew as we exchange our rings.
(both) And they’re all watching everything… but you’re the only one I see.
(both)My arms only reach for you
My heart only beats for you
(And) deep down in my soul
You’re the missing part that makes me whole
Your love’s the only thing I know
And my eyes, my eyes. Only see you
Tag (female) Now, we’re out here on the dance floor, just us two.
You whisper “Babe I love you” and I say that I do too.
(male)Now you’re my wife. … and you’re my whole life.
(male) And my eyes … (female)yeah, my eyes, (both)only see you.
Only see you… Only see…
