Backstory:
One morning I was reading the story in the Bible about the woman who was "caught" in adultery and was brought before Jesus to test him. I got to thinking about how she felt about the whole thing. She didn't know she was being set up or used as a pawn in a political entrapment. She only knew her life was most likely at an end. I hoped to capture the emotion of her experience of judgement and grace in this song
Lyrics:
Gentle Justice
Verse 1
Thrown into his presence
Torn and ashamed
Waiting for the rising storm
When stones begin to rain
I can hear their Thundering voices
Scream my guilt into his face
Calling for the lightning
To strike me
from this place
Chorus:
Gentle Justice
Bending Down
Writes my fate in the sand
Gentle Justice
Stands in strength, and
Holds my life in his hand
Verse 2
Sin demands a sentence
Wisdom gives a choice
Pebbles hit the empty ground
Guilt has lost her voice
Hands that held me captive
Lose their grip and fall away
Left with no accuser
I’m Released
Into His Grace
Bridge:
When no one else could see beyond the things that I had done
Jesus gently set me free to be all I could become
