Backstory:
Last year our women's ministry went through a study by Kelly Minter on the modern idols in our lives. The chapter that covered the Israelite's journey across the Jordan river struck a deep chord. This song is a response to that scripture.
Lyrics:
A
Have you crossed over Jordan, Have you seen the promised land?
Have you left your empty idols in the hot and barren sand?
Have you carried from the riverbed a rock on which to stand?
Have you crossed over Jordan, Have you seen the promised land?
B
Have you followed His promise, Have you kept Him in your sight?
Traveled by His cloud by day, and in the dark by firelight?
Have you savored His sustenance everyday and night?
Have you followed His promise, Have you kept Him in your sight?
C
When it feels like the journey keeps on circlin' round and round
And your feet don't remember anything but hard, dry ground
When the weight of your slavery starts to fade like distant dreams,
Will you still trust the One who set you free?
D
Have you seen Him go before you, have you followed where He led?
Have you sensed Him stand behind you, making sure you crossed ahead?
Have you held the Hand that held back all the waters from their bed?
Have you seen Him go before you, by His love have you been led?
E
When you taste of the goodness of your final destiny
And you feel the rich, warm soil and the grass beneath your feet,
Will you worship in your wonder, will it bring you to your knees?
Will you still trust the One who set you free?
