Backstory:
This is a little ditty I wrote as I was preparing to teach a jazz unit to my choirs last year. I had another piece started for tonight's class, but didn't quite finish it.
I have been out of the loop for nearly a year now, so I wanted to do SOMETHING to follow through on my resolution to get back in the saddle this year!
Anyway, let me know if you think it has any commercial potential whatsoever...thanks!
Lyrics:
I SHOULD BE SINGIN’ THE BLUES
©2009 Kara K. Smith
Verse 1
I woke up this morning to the drizzle of rain
Thumpin’ out its rhythm on my window pane
The empty words you left me with are all that remain
I guess I should be singin’ the blues
Verse 2
You never convinced me that this love was true
You never would confess I wasn’t right for you
It came as no surprise when you said we were through
I guess I should be singin’ the blues
Bridge
Well then, Why oh Why, did the sun start to shine
When your shadow didn’t linger at my door any more?
And why do I find it hard to cry
When I know I’ll never see you anymore?
Verse 3
I woke up this morning to the drizzle of rain
Thumpin’ out its rhythm on my window pane
If someone catches me dancin’, they might call me insane
Cuz I guess I should be singin’ the blues
